Adorable napping toddler Beau and puppy Theo are now joined by little sister Evangeline
Napping toddler Beau and puppy Theo have been joined by the Shyba family's newest arrival, baby Evangeline, and the images are still melting the hearts. Mother Jessica Shyba has continued her ritual of taking photos of the trio as they sleep - whatever position they are lying in. Theo first started taking naps with Beau soon after the Shyba family adopted him in November 2013. Mrs Shyba said that the nap time routine started on the third day they had Theo. Theo was laying on Beau when the toddler was getting rocked for his afternoon nap. Talk about killing two birds with one stone. 'I was practically howling at the cuteness and nearly woke them both up,' she wrote on her blog. 'Each day, Theo meets us at nap time and waits patiently for Beau to fall asleep. By that time, he's also sleepy, so when I hoist him onto our bed, he stumbles over Beau and plops right down on top of him.' Mrs Shyba's new photo book Naptime with Theo and Beau, will be available on Amazon and other online retailers in February. Human Statue: Teenager's Muscles Turn To BONE Due To Rare Condition
Luciana Wulkan, 17, suffers Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP) - an extremely rare connective tissue disease which affects just 800 people worldwide. Also known as Stone Man Syndrome, it slowly turns muscles, tendons, ligaments into solid bone, and is currently incurable. She was born with a stiff neck, and began struggling to move her joints as she grew. Now studying for her A-levels, her jaw has also locked and she has lost the use of her right hand after her wrist muscles fused into bone. But while the disease can leave sufferers completely immobilised, she is determined to remain positive, and even does her own make up every day with her left hand. Miss Wulkan said: 'The condition is slowly calcifying my muscles and other soft tissues into bone.' 'It eventually leaves people with very limited movement but I'm not focusing on that, I won't let it control my life.' 'Both of my arms have limited movement so I can't put my arms over my head and my right wrist is also fused. 'But I still manage to do all my make-up myself and I've not allowed the condition to affect my studying.' 'I enjoy being sociable and going shopping and dining out with my friends and family.' FOP is a genetic condition, but can be triggered by episodes of trauma, including knocks and falls, biopsies and surgery. Miss Wulkan's mother, Mrs Di-Falco believes her daughter's condition was triggered when she fell down the stairs and bumped her head. Mrs Di-Falco said: 'For Luciana living with FOP, bumps and falls can result in a flare-up which then often leads to further muscles turning into bone.' 'Both myself and Sandro are so proud of how she has dealt with the condition, it's extremely rare so not many doctors even know much about it.' 'It wasn't until we watched a documentary on TV that we realised Luciana had FOP.' 'Thankfully although the condition causes her muscles to turn into bone it is not painful all the time.' FOP is so rare it affects just 800 people worldwide. Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP) is one of the rarest, most disabling genetic conditions known to medicine. It causes bone to form in muscles, tendons, ligaments and other connective tissues. Ridges of extra bone develop across joints, progressively restricting movement and forming a second skeleton that imprisons the body in bone. There are no other known examples in medicine of one normal organ system turning into another. Amazing Recovery Of Gito The Baby Orangutan After Being Rescued From Cardboard Box In Borneo
A baby orangutan left in a filthy cardboard box in the sun in Borneo is showing further strong signs of recovery two months after being saved by charity. Rescuers said the baby ape's appearance is now 'beyond recognition' after he was found. The baby, who officials named Gito, was found in the village of Hamlet Giet in Simpang Hulu district, 105 miles from the orangutan rehabilitation base in West Borneo. Dehydrated and malnourished after being fed entirely on condensed milk, Gito was taken to the International Animal Rescue (IAR) clinic by motorbike in an arduous nine-hour journey. During a medical check, Gito was feverish, with stiff hands and feet. He was unable to sit up on his own, suffering from diarrhoea and from sarcoptic mange - a highly contagious skin disease. To help relieve him, coconut oil was massaged into Gito to soothe and soften his itchy skin. And he was placed on a drip to help rehydrate him. Less than two months later, East Sussex-based IAR said Gito is looking 'healthy, happy and alert' - and is even sporting two front teeth. Alan Knight, chief executive at IAR, said: 'Considering the condition little Gito was in when he was rescued, his recovery has been remarkable.' 'But the team at our centre in Ketapang are experts at caring for sick and injured orangutans and have been hugely successful at saving a number of seemingly hopeless cases.' Although Gito is not as hairy as he should be, his skin is smooth and supple and there are good signs that his coat is growing, IAR rescuers said. Vets and carers are working round the clock to save other orphaned orangutans who have become victims of deforestation and recent devastating forest fires. Mr Knight added: 'For weeks now our rescue team have been risking their lives to save orangutans caught up in the fires in Borneo and there are likely to be more babies orphaned and captured in the weeks ahead. 'During the past two months the team has rescued 20 orangutans, some of them mothers with babies or pregnant females, and they have all been successfully moved and released into safe areas of forest.' Now that his health is improving, IAR has added Gito to a list of orangutans available for 'virtual adoption' via its website. Funds raised through the adoption scheme will help cover the cost of caring and rehabilitating all the orang-utans at IAR's clinic in Ketapang. Famous Model Olalla Oliveros Becomes Catholic Nun After 'Earthquake' Experience - Spain
Famous Model Olalla Oliveros Becomes Catholic Nun After 'Earthquake' Experience - Well-known Spanish model and actress has become a nun of the semi-cloistered Catholic Order of Saint Michael, leaving her flourishing career years after she had an "earthquake" experience on a visit to Fatima. The 36-year-old model, Olalla Oliveros, has done advertisements, television commercials and worked as an actress, but she has now entered the Order of Saint Michael, according to National Catholic Register. She recently turned down an offer to play a lead role in a high-budget film. While Oliveros hasn't spoken much about the move, she was quoted as saying that she had an "earthquake" experience on a visit to Our Lady of Fatima some time ago. She found the experience weird initially, but could not shake the image of herself dressed as a nun. She didn't describe the experience but said she has made the choice after much thought. "The Lord is never wrong. He asked if I will follow him, and I could not refuse," Oliveros explained. Catholicism is witnessing growth in Spain, according to reports. Annually, about 400 Spanish girls become non-cloistered sisters, citing the number of women at the Poor Clares Convent of the Ascension in Lerma which rose from 28 in 1994 to 134 in 2009. One of the Lerma nuns, Sister Verónica, created her own community, Jesu Communio, the article says. The Vatican approved the rapidly growing order, known as the "sisters in jeans" because they wear denim habits, in 2010. However, celebrities elsewhere have also become nuns in the past. About five years ago, one of Colombia's top models, Amada Rosa Pérez, became a Catholic nun. "Being a model means being a benchmark, someone whose beliefs are worthy of being imitated, and I grew tired of being a model of superficiality," Pérez told the El Tiempo. "I grew tired of a world of lies, appearances, falsity, a society full of anti-values that exalts violence, adultery, drugs, alcohol, and a world that exalts riches, pleasure, s*xual immorality and fraud." Amazing recovery of starving dog: Heartbreaking, 'skeleton' Weimaraner ate rocks and sticks
Rescued dog before and after: A starving dog that miraculously survived on nothing but sticks and rocks is making a remarkable recovery. Heartbreaking story of Alex who was found wandering the streets with virtually all of his bone structure visible as his fur clung to his skeleton. Rescuers say that despite his hardship, the adorable pooch has never stopped being a kind, lovely animal. Deanna Theis, the assistant director of the Southern Animal Foundation, told Fox 8 that when Alex was found in New Orleans he was perilously close to death. "How he is still alive at this point is pretty much a miracle. He was extremely close to death." The Weimaraner was taken in by the the Southern Animal Foundation, a no-kill rescue organisation, after they saw photos of him on a website for a local animal control centre. X-ray's of the emaciated and neglected dog revealed there was nothing but rocks and twigs in his stomach, and as experts battled to save Alex they believe they may have overfed him, causing his stomach to bloat. He needed emergency sugary because his stomach had flipped inside his body. Happy Alex now weighs 43 pounds and is getting stronger with each day. Abandoned dog rescue: Chinese woman nursed a hairless and emaciated stray dog back to health after discovering him wandering the streets. The poor pooch was taken in by Lu after nobody else would touch him or go near him because of his appearance. Renamed Tai Zhang, she welcomed him in and nursed him back to health. Lu said when she found the Samoyed breed near her home in Nanning, Guangxi Province, China, in 2012, he appeared to be suffering from a skin disease. She said: "It looked so sad and thin." So she did what anybody with a heart would do and went to fetch him some food. "It waited for me each day under my building, which touched me." Dog Helps Rescue French Mastiff After It Was Found Being Buried Alive By Owner’
Dog rescued by dog and its owner: Owner of dog found buried alive up to its head with its lead tied to a sack of gravel is arrested in France after photo of the animal sparks outrage The dog has been found buried up to its head in dirt in France, with the photos of the incident sparking an out pour of anger on social media. Police have confirmed that the owner of the dog has been taken into custody, who said his dog had run away. The French mastiff was discovered and then rescued on Saturday by Pedro Dinis walking his own dog on waste ground in Carrieres-sur-Seine, west of Paris. Deeply upset by the dog's appalling condition, Mr Dinis posted pictures on Facebook saying: 'Only her head was visible and it was difficult to see given the amount of earth covering her.' The French mastiff appears to have been buried in the thick dirt and dust in the waste land. The dog's rope lead can be seen hanging from her neck and closer inspection shows that it has been attached to a sack of gravel. Mr Dinis called the emergency services and began to free the animal, carefully trying to ease the thick pile of dirt surrounding the dog. The dog, 'shocked and dehydrated' according to the police source, was taken to a veterinary clinic nearby for treatment. Police quickly traced the animal to its 21-year-old owner who was taken into custody. He denied burying the dog, saying that the animal had run away. Investigators said this was 'not very plausible' and are expected to further question the young man. 'The dog is more than 10-years-old and suffers from arthritis. It's difficult to imagine her running away,' said a source close to the investigation. The owner will be put on trial for animal cruelty and could be sent to prison for two years and be forced to pay a fine of up to £20,000. Amazing Recovery Of Dog Whose Fur Was Ungroomed For Ten Years And Loses Two Of His Legs
Incredible transformation of abandoned poodle after being rescued: Poodle was left ungroomed for a decade with fur so matted that two of his legs fell off. When rescuers found Bobb, who had been owned by a group of homeless people in Los Angeles, California, they discovered his matted fur had cut off the circulation to his legs, causing them to to start to detach. Just a few months after being saved by rescue centre Synergy Animal Rescue, Bobb has made an incredible recovery and is barely recognisable after having his fur clipped away. Vets in San Diego had to perform a full a mputation on the limbs, removing his front right leg just above his paw and his back left leg just below his knee. They also had to pull out most of his teeth because they were rotting. He is now enjoying a new life with professional dog trainer, Megan Lundberg, who fostered Bobb before deciding she and her husband wanted to adopt him. 'As soon as I heard about Bobb I immediately knew we wanted to foster him,' said Mrs Lundberg. 'The Synergy rescue director, Carla, named him Amaze-Bobb. Bobb spent a week with us, as well as our two Siberian huskies and two cats.' We gave him a calm place to rest, recover, and be loved and spoiled, before he underwent a full week of vet's appointments.' 'Bobb continued to heal and recover. He began to play, run, and was well on his way to a full recovery. He visited people with special needs to spread his message of strength, love, compassion, and understanding.' Mrs Lundberg has tried to get prosthetics for Bobb, but because his a mputation was so high, there is not enough leg to attach a prosthesis to. 'Bobb is proof that there is hope for older or abandoned dogs.' 'Bobb didn't deserve to be e uthanized because he is old and was neglected so severely. He did have a miserable existence but that is behind him now.' 'Thanks to the animal control officers, the shelter, the vets, and especially to Synergy, he is not miserable, and he is not suffering. Yes he is down a couple legs but there are very few things he can't do.' Sentinelese Tribe Kills Outsiders: North Sentinel Island is home to 60,000-year-old community
Sentinelese people: The Indian Ocean island that is home to a community who have lived there for 60,000 years... but is too dangerous to visit because they try to kill outsiders Visitors who venture onto or too close to North Sentinel Island risk being attacked by members of a mysterious tribe who have rejected modern civilisation and prefer to have zero contact with the outside world. When they do interact with outsiders, it usually involves violence - the indigenous Sentinelese tribe killed two men who were fishing illegally in 2006 and have been known to fire arrows and fling rocks at low-flying planes or helicopters on reconnaissance missions. Located in the Bay of Bengal, North Sentinel Island belongs to India and remains an enigma, despite being populated for an estimated 60,000 years. Untouched by modern civilisation, very little is known about the Sentinelese people, their language, their rituals and the island they call home. It is too dangerous to approach them due to their hostility to outsiders, meaning they are rarely photographed and almost never seen on video. Most of the photos and video clips that do exist are of poor quality. Often referred to as a ‘Stone Age tribe’ the Sentinelese may be the most isolated tribe in the world, with the Indian government choosing not to meddle in their affairs. The government made several failed attempts to establish contact, but has abandoned all attempts and allows the tribe to live how it chooses on an island that is about the size of Manhattan. Indian authorities have gone as far as making it a crime to try to make contact with the Sentinelese. It is illegal to go within three miles of the island. Survival International reported late last year that it had received reports that fishermen are targeting the area, with seven men being apprehended by the Indian Coast Guard. One of the fishermen reportedly stepped foot on the island in close proximity to the tribe’s members, and he managed to leave unscathed. Survival International describes the Sentinelese as ‘the most vulnerable society on the planet’ as they are likely to have no immunity to common diseases such as flu and measles. Due to their complete isolation, the chances of them being wiped out by an epidemic are very high, according to the organisation... Has Queen Nefertiti Been Found Behind Tutankhamun's Tomb ? - Ancient Egypt Discoveries
Nefertiti Documentary: Scientist claims there is a secret door in King Tut's grave to Nefertiti's burial chamber who may have been her son - A researcher claims to have found a 'ghost' doorway hiding beneath the plaster on the wall of the burial chamber, which he believes leads to the tomb of the ruler's supposed mother, Queen Nefertiti. Famed for her exquisite beauty, the grave of Nefertiti or the 'Lady of the Two Lands' has been lost for centuries since her sudden d eath. Previous DNA analysis has suggested King Tutankhamun's mother may have been a mummy known as the Younger Lady, who is also thought to be his father's sister. There are some Egyptologists who claim that it is actually Nefertiti, the chief wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten and mother to six of his children, who is Tutankhamun's mother. Dr Nicholas Reeves, an English archaeologist at the University of Arizona, has now provided new evidence to support these claims in a report published by the Amarna Royal Tombs Project. After analysing high-resolution scans of the walls of Tutankhamun's grave complex in the Valley of the Kings, Dr Reeves spotted what appeared to be a secret entrance. He described how he uncovered the 'ghosts' of two portals that tomb builders blocked up, one of which is believed to be a storage room. The other, on the north side of Tutankhamun's tomb, contains 'the undisturbed burial of the tomb's original owner - Nefertiti', Dr Reeves argued. If Dr Reeves is correct, the hidden tomb could be far more magnificent than anything found in Tutankhamun's burial chamber. He believes it is her tomb due to its position positioned to the right of the entrance shaft, which is far more typical of Egyptian queens rather than kings. The small size of Tutankhamun's burial chamber, given his standing in the Egyptian history, has baffled experts for years and Dr Reeves' theory could suggest that it was built as an addition to an existing tomb - his mother's. Tutankhamun's burial chamber is the same size as an antechamber, rather than a tomb fit for an Egyptian King, for example. Dr Reeve said the richness of the furnishings crammed into Tutankhamun's four small chambers as 'overwhelming'. Dr Reeves believes the tomb belonged to Nefertiti and the pharaoh's room was simply an afterthought, describing it as a 'corridor-style tomb-within-a-tomb'. Neferneferuaten Nefertiti - or Queen Nefertiti - was the wife and 'chief consort' of King Akhenaten, an Egyptian Pharoah during 14th century BC, one of the wealthiest, if not the wealthiest, era in Ancient Egypt. 'If I'm wrong I'm wrong, but if I'm right this is potentially the biggest archaeological discovery ever made,' Mr Reeves said. The discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922 caused a worldwide sensation. The rich furnishings and decorations have entranced the public while archaeologists have puzzled over the king's d eath. Nefertiti was hugely powerful during her husband's reign, and she may even have had equal power to her husband. It is unknown how the queen died, however, and theories include that she died of a sudden plague in her mid-30s or early-40s in around 1330 B.C. To date, the mummy of Nefertiti, her parents, or her children has not been found or identified. Baby Orangutan Rescued By Charity After Being Left In Cardboard Box In Critical Condition
Gito the baby orangutan rescued after being found in a cardboard box under the sun: British animal charity has helped save the life of a baby orangutan found dumped in a filthy cardboard box and left out in the sun to d ie in Borneo. the baby ape was so l ifeless when a team from East Sussex-based International Animal Rescue reached him that at first they thought he was not alive. Lying with his arms folded across his chest, his grey flaking skin and lack of hair made him look "almost m ummified" in his urine-soaked box. IAR officials said the baby was found in the village of Hamlet Giet in Simpang Hulu district, 105 miles from their orangutan rehabilitation base in West Borneo. Dehydrated and malnourished after being fed entirely on condensed milk, Gito was taken to the IAR clinic by motorbike in a nine-hour journey. IAR chief executive Alan Knight said: "It's hard to stomach the shocking state Gito was in when we rescued him." "Our team has seen a significant increase in the number of baby orangutans being kept as pets and some of them have only recently been taken from the wild." "This is the result of the forest fires devastating Indonesia and leaving wild orangutans without food or shelter." "Those that escape being b urnt alive are left exposed and vulnerable, under threat of starving to death or being killed or captured by human beings." During a medical check, Gito was feverish, with stiff hands and feet. He was suffering from diarrhoea and from sarcoptic mange - a highly-contagious skin disease. To help relieve him, coconut oil was massaged into Gito to soothe and soften his itchy skin. And he was placed on a drip to help rehydrate him. Mr Knight added: "Gito is in safe hands now and receiving expert treatment and care at our centre in Ketapang. But there are many more like him in desperate need of our help." Forest fires in Ketapang Regency have triggered a rise in the number of orangutans being captured, and an urgent need for funding to help continue the IAR's work, Mr Knight said. Baby orangutan cried during rescue after he was kept in cage for ten months with no food - Indonesia
Crying baby orangutan, Budi, was caged in a chicken coop and fed on condensed milk for whole of the ten months he has been alive. Budi, the milk provided virtually no nourishment for him, causing his bones to become malformed in his tiny body. Vets from a British animal welfare charity nursing him back from the brink of death say he cried like a human baby when he was rescued in Indonesia from his hellish life as a family pet. 'No living creature should be forced to live in excruciating pain and misery for months on end,' said Alan Knight OBE, the CEO of International Animal Rescue charity based in Uckfield in East Sussex. 'Budi was kept in a chicken cage by his owner and fed on nothing but condensed milk. During that time she didn't give him a single mouthful of solid food for fear it would be bad for him.' 'He was deprived of all the nutrients that are vital to the development of a young baby. His owner's ignorance and neglect were killing him slowly and painfully.' 'It breaks my heart to think of the pain Budi was in as he became more and more sick. Eventually his owner told the authorities that she wished to hand over the small baby orangutan she was keeping as a pet.' 'Everyone was distressed beyond words to see how much pain he was in.' IAR vets made him as comfortable as possible and medicated him to try to relieve his suffering. But the little fighter made it and is now, slowly, getting stronger by the day. IAR director Karmele L Sanchez, leading the team that is nurturing Budi, said: 'Since being admitted to our centre just a few weeks ago he has started to make a slow recovery.' Orangutans are under threat in their natural habitat like never before. They are an easy target for hunters, killed for food in some areas or in revenge attacks when they move into agricultural areas and destroy crops. Females are most often hunted. While Williams was not on the tracks over Roxboro Road near East Paces Ferry, he apparently underestimated the width of the oncoming train, which ended up sideswiping him. The videographer escaped injury but was knocked off his feet by the impact. The 30-year-old Atlanta man is survived by his 6-year-old daughter and his girlfriend. Williams' friends and loved ones took to Twitter and Instagram to express their heartbreak. Achilles Williams was best known for running a private fitness camp in Atlanta called Team Fitness. Williams' loved ones have launched a GoFundme campaign hoping to raise $25,000 towards his final expenses and to help support his daughter. Bear Cub Rescued By Raft Guide From River After Struggling For Days
Rescued Bear Cub: Noli Bear, the five-month-old American black bear, was rescued from a river in the Smoky Mountains after she struggled to survive for several days. The 14lb bear was picked up by river guide Danny Allen, of High Mountain Expeditions, on the side of the Nolichucky River near Erwin, Tennessee. After the bear was seen four days in a row, she climbed into Allen's raft when he pulled to the river's edge. Matt Moses, who owns USA Raft described how Noli Bear was saved. 'We had seen this bear over the last four days, and there was no sight of a mama bear,' Moses told the Knoxville News Sentinel. 'She was obviously malnourished and appeared to be in distress,' he added. 'My guides kept coming back to me and saying they had no idea what to do.' Each day Noli Bear became more comfortable with human contact, Moses said adding that it's the first time he's heard of a bear getting into a raft. Noli Bear was taken by Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to the Appalachian Bear Rescue in Townsend, which has returned orphaned, injured or medically in-need bears to the wild since 1996. Dana Dodd, board president of the Appalachian Bear Rescue, said Noli Bear is recovering, and is 'up, walking and feeding'. 'She likes grapes and applesauce. Those things are great for her because they're filled with water,' she added. The bear was dehydrated and given fluids by the University of Tennessee Veterinary School after she was dropped off at the Appalachian Bear Rescue. In about a week, after she is climbing, hearing and seeing well, Noli Bear might be put into an area that houses four other cubs. When Noli Bear reaches 50lb, which will likely be between August and December, she will be released into the wild. Dodd urged, that people should not approach animals in the wild. 'If you see wildlife in trouble, you should immediately call TWRA. You should never intervene on your own. It's dangerous for you and the animal,' she said. Tutankhamun had girlish hips, a club foot, his parents were sister and brother-Ancient Egypt
Tutankhamun documentary-Tutankhamun’s burial mask projects an image of majestic beauty and royal power. But King Tut had girlish hips, a club foot and buck teeth according to 'virtual autopsy' that also revealed his parents were brother and sister King Tut had buck teeth, a club foot and girlish hips, according to the most detailed examination ever of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh’s remains. Rather than being a boy king with a love of chariot racing, Tut relied on walking sticks to get around during his rule in the 14th century BC, researchers said. A 'virtual autopsy', composed of more than 2,000 computer scans, was carried out in tandem with a genetic analysis of Tutankhamun’s family, which supports evidence that his parents were brother and sister. Scientists believe that this left him with physical impairments triggered by hormonal imbalances. His family history could also have led to his premature death in his late teens. Myths suggest he was murdered or was involved in a chariot crash after fractures were found in his skull and other parts of his skeleton. Now scientists believe he may have died of an inherited illness because only one of the breaks occurred before he died, while his club foot would have made chariot racing impossible.. On 4 November 1922, Egyptologist Howard Carter's group found steps that led to Tutankhamun's tomb and spent several months cataloguing the antechamber. They opened the burial chamber and discovered the the sarcophagus in February the following year. Revelations are made in BBC One documentary Tutankhamun: The Truth Uncovered. Albert Zink, from the Institute for Mummies and the Iceman in Italy, deciphered the truth about the ruler’s parents by studying the royal family’s DNA. He found that King Tut was born after his father Akhenaten - dubbed the heretic king - had a relationship with his sister. Incest was not frowned upon by the ancient Egyptians and they did not know about the health implications for any offspring. Egyptian radiologist Ashraf Selim: ‘The virtual autopsy shows the toes are divergent - in layman’s terms it’s club foot. He would have been heavily limping.' 'There is only one site where we can say a fracture happened before he died and that is the knee.'.. Music by Kevin MacLeod /Impact Prelude/ http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/

World's oldest two-faced cat, Frank and Louie dies aged 15 - Animals
Frank and Louie made it into the 2012 edition of Guinness World Records as the longest-surviving so-called Janus cat. The record-breaking Massachusetts feline, named after the Roman god with two faces - Frank and Louie - had two mouths, two noses and three eyes. But one brain meant both faces responded in unison. Janus cats almost never survive, and most have congenital defects. When owner Marty Stevens took in Frank and Louie back in 1999, she was told the cat would die within three or four days. But careful nursing saw her pet survive. "I tube-fed him until he was three months old because I was afraid he wouldn't be able to eat," she told The Telegram of Worcester. Heartwarming: Police and firefighters save little boy's 6th birthday after no one came, Florida
Unforgettable birthday party of 6-year-old boy: Ashlee Buratti, of St. Cloud, Florida, had invited her son Glenn's class of 16 children to his birthday on February 8, and when no one showed up, he was devastated. Ashlee Buratti and her husband John Buratti were 'still holding on to the hope that some of them would show up' to the party for her son, who has epilepsy and a mild form of autism. 'From the minute he woke up that day he wanted to know how many minutes until his friends came,' Glenn's dad said, adding that his eyes filled with tears when he learned no one was coming. The mother-of-three posted on a locally run Facebook page with more than 10,000 members titled, Osceola Rants, Raves and Reviews List, to express her frustration, according to the Osceola News-Gazette. 'I know this might be something silly to rant about, but my heart is breaking for my son. We invited his whole class (16 kids) over for his 6th birthday party today. Not one kid came,' she posted. When other group members saw the post they sent Buratti messages asking if they could bring their own kids to Glenn's party to celebrate. The message reached staff from the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, who asked for the family's address and said a helicopter would fly over their St. Cloud home. Glenn was overjoyed with the party, and his mom said that though he is usually shy, he took to his new friends like he'd known them all his life. 'In general, deputies have big hearts - they thought about their own kids and wanted to make this boy happy because it was such a sad situation,' Buratti told Today. 'It was just amazing. The people who came out were so awesome,' Buratti told the Osceola News-Gazette. 'And to think, all this happened because nobody showed up to his birthday,' Buratti wrote online. 4D ultrasound scans show what smoking does to an unborn baby during pregnancy
Smoking and pregnancy: Incredible images of foetus holding its face show how babies exposed to cigarettes may have delayed development. New ultrasound pictures show how babies of mothers who smoke during pregnancy touch their mouths and faces much more than babies of non-smoking mothers. Foetuses normally touch their mouths and faces much less the older and more developed they are. Experts said the scans show how smoking during pregnancy can mean the development of the baby's central nervous system is delayed. Doctors have long urged pregnant women to give up cigarettes because they heighten the risk of premature birth, respiratory problems and even cot death. Now researchers believe they can show the effects of smoking on babies in the womb. Dr Nadja Reissland, of Durham University, used 4-D ultrasound scan images to record thousands of tiny movements in the womb. She monitored 20 mothers attending the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, four of whom smoked an average of 14 cigarettes a day. After studying their scans at 24, 28, 32 and 36 weeks, she detected that foetuses whose mothers smoked continued to show significantly higher rates of mouth movement and self-touching than those carried by non-smokers. Foetuses usually move their mouths and touch themselves less as they gain more control the closer they get to birth, she explained. All the babies in her study were born healthy, and were of normal size and weight. Dr Reissland, who has an expertise in studying foetal development, thanked the mothers who took part in her study, especially those who smoked. 'Human Ken Doll' Celso Santebanes Dies After Losing Battle Against Leukemia - Brazil
'Real-life Ken doll' has died after losing a five-month battle against leukemia - Brazilian Celso Santebanes, 20, spent £30,000 on surgery to turn himself into a human version of Barbie’s boyfriend. He started his transformation after winning a modelling contest at the age of 16. He was catapulted to fame after being spotted by a talk show in his native Sao Paulo and began to charge up to £10,000 for a VIP appearance. He launched his own line of Celso Dolls in Los Angeles shortly before falling ill. Celso died at a university hospital in Uberlandia in the state of Minais Gerais on Thursday after contracting pneumonia. He had been admitted to the hospital on May 26 for chemotherapy sessions. He was already buried on Friday. His dad Celio Borges said: "When he was starting to fulfil his dreams, he discovered his illness and his dreams were interrupted. He had plans but God had others." Celio discovered he had cancer after going to hospital to treat infections caused by hydrogel fillers injected into his legs four years ago. He had four operations on his nose, chin and jaw - plus silicone implants in his chest - after friends told him he looked like a puppet. In an interview with a Brazlian newspaper after he was discovered, he said: "This is so magical. My life has changed." "I feel like the whole of Brazil is supporting me. People are sometimes frightened by the way I look, and stop me to say how much I look like a doll." "I do suffer a lot of prejudice. But the world is full of judgemental people, I don’t care." Despite his success, he said he wasn't entirely happy. "I think I'm 90% of what I want to be," he said last year. "As I work with my aesthetic, I must take care of my body." The disabled man's amazing strength of character has been captured in a series of moving photos that's recently emerged. Since 2014, the man has had to take care of her full-time while running his smallholding. Chen Xinyin's 91-year-old mother has been getting weaker and weaker. About a month ago, she became paralysed and can no longer move her arms. Without the use of his hands, he has to do everything using other parts of his body, including spoon-feeding his mother using his teeth to hold on to the instrument. But Chen Xinyin has never let his disability stop him. When he was 20, his father died. As his older siblings had already left home, his mother became the only person who kept the family going. Chen Xinyin wanted to help as much as he can, starting with learning to cook. But with no hands, he had to learn to use a cleaver with his foot. He mastered cooking with his feet and has learnt to plant wheat, peel corn cobs and even weave baskets. Now he is the only one who runs his smallholding of farmland and raises a flock of 24 sheep, two buffalos and four hens. He has even managed to make a profit year on year. While many would have reached out for help, Chen Xinyin is adamant about doing as many things himself as possible. Chen Xinyin is also worried about who will be left to take care of his mother if he leaves. 28-year-old woman with rare 'aging' disorder 'Cutis laxa', looks like a grandmother - China
Cutis laxa: Hu Juan of Zhengzhou, of Henan province in north-central China, is the only person in China, and only one of ten people worldwide who suffer from a rare condition called Cutis laxa, which has caused her to age prematurely. The 28-year-old - who looks more like someone in her 60s or 70s - first noticed the changes after she gave birth to her first child 11 years ago, Shanghaiist reported. Less than 10 people worldwide have reportedly been diagnosed with the disease. There is no effective treatment, but plastic surgery can help correct her appearance. Over the past 11 years, Juan’s husband has remained by her side as she watched her youthful appearance fade. Juan avoided going outside and looking in mirrors. Her heart broke when she realized that her son was ashamed to tell his friends that she is his mother. The condition means the skin on her face and neck has lost its elasticity, causing it to become loose and sag. It does not affect any other areas of her body. World's oldest living person: Japanese Misao Okawa hits her 117th birthday - Extraordinary people
Japan: Great-grandmother, Misao Okawa, has become the world's oldest living person after hitting her 117th birthday. Misao Okawa said she still knows how to celebrate - by eating her favourite dinner at least once a month. The supercentenarian said 117 years didn't seem like such a long time. Asked what the secret to her long life was, she joked: "I wonder about that too!" Born on March 5, 1898 in Tenma, Japan, Mrs Okawa was born before the invention of cars, planes and telephones. According to staff at the nursing home, she has slowed down in recent months and is having trouble hearing, but apart from that is in pretty good health. The title of world’s oldest living person was given to Mrs Okawa in June 2013 after Jiroemon Kimura - also from Japan - died at the age of 116. The great-grandmother got married in 1919 and had three children with her husband Yukio, who died in 1931. She now lives near to her children, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. As well holding the Guinness World Records title for oldest living person, Mrs Okawa also belongs to an elite group - the supercentenarians - because she is more than 110 years old. The oldest person ever was Jeanne Calment of France, who lived to 122 years and 164 days. Most touching videos - Kind-hearted boy feeding starving stray dogs - Father was left stunned after discovering where his young son was going on his daily walks. He noticed his son left their house in the rural Philippines every day for two weeks, carrying a backpack, and he decided to tag along. They stopped on the side of the road and moments later a group of starving stray dogs came towards them. His son told him he had been taking the trips to feed these dogs, who appear to be infected with mange, a skin disease caused by parasitic mites. When he first saw the animals, explained: 'I'm embarrassed to say I was pretty disgusted. But my son changed my perspective entirely.' 'He doesn't have my prejudice and paranoia I guess. 7 Year-Old Boy Takes Care Of His Paralyzed Father After His Mother Abandoned Them
Chinese boy cares for his paralysed father: This is a touching story of a little boy who has nursed his paralysed father since his mother walked out on them. * You can help here: https://www.gofundme.com/A-7-years-old-hero * Ou Tongming, a 37-year-old laborer from Wangpu village in southwest China's Guizhou province, plunged from the second story of construction property in 2013, suffering a spinal cord injury that paralysed him from the waist down. After the family sapped their life savings on medical treatments, Tongming's wife fled with their three-year-old daughter, never to be heard from again, leaving seven-year-old Ou Yanglin to be the sole caretaker of his bedridden father. For over a year, Yanglin has woken at 6am every morning to feed his dad before going to school, teaching himself to cook rice and buy vegetables from a local market. At lunchtime he rushes home to feed his father again. Tongming said he was on the brink of suicide from thinking about how much of a burden he was placing on his son, but he thought better of leaving him all alone. 'I wasn't determined as I couldn't bear to leave the kid orphaned,' he told local media, according to the Shanghaiist. Yanglin, who only just started attending the first grade, scours the streets after school to collect scraps which can make up to up to 20 yuan (A$4) a day. Outside of this, the pair are surviving on a 300 RMB ($AU66)-a-month disabled persons handout. The circumstances of the mother's departure are known to the family's neighbours, who have endeavoured to offer help wherever possible. After returning home each day, the little boy helps to turn his father on his side and applies medicine to his body. Yanglin said more than anything else he that he hopes to 'grow up soon' in order to earn money to cure his father's afflictions. 'I can't live without my father,' he said. Yanglin's story has spread like wildfire, with sympathisers calling for a charity fund to be set up in his name to offer financial aid to the family. More than 1,000 year-old mummified pre-Inca baby discovered in Peru - New discoveries
Ancient civilizations / Inca mummies: More than 1,000 years ago the pre-Inca baby was laid to rest on a Peruvian hillside. It was among dozens of well-preserved mummified skeletons found by archaeologists on the outskirts of the capital city of Lima. The discovery was made by experts who were hired by the Government to search the hillside for any remains prior to the building of a new road. Three days into the project the archaeologist came across the cemetery, according to National Geographic News. 'By now we have over 40 (mummy bundles) and the number increases every day.' Guillermo Cock, a Lima-based archaeologist, reportedly told the website. The latest discovery was made close to Puruchuco-Huaquerones - the largest Inca cemetery ever excavated. In total the team located around 26 tombs, containing both children and adults. One of the most famous to ever be uncovered was 'Juanita the Ice Maiden', a girl preserved in ice on a mountain. Earlier this year one body found in southern Peru was so well preserved that it had an eye intact. Cecil The Lion's Cubs Are Being Protected By his Brother After Fears Rival Male Will Kill Them
The much-loved lion Cecil's cubs are being protected by his brother after fears rival male will kill them and take over the pride - Cecil was killed by American dentist Walter Palmer earlier this month, sparking outrage around the world. The cubs fathered by Cecil the lion are being protected by his brother amid fears they will be killed by a male rival, researchers said. After his death, there were fears his cubs would be killed by the next lion in the hierarchy so he could father his own offspring with the females in the pride. But a team at Oxford University's Wildlife Conservation Unit, which had been studying Cecil, said the lion's brother had stepped in to safeguard the young. Project leader David Macdonald said: 'The natural law in lion society is that when a male dies and his weakened coalition is usurped, the new incoming males kill their predecessors' cubs.' 'This may not happen because Cecil's brother is still holding the fort.' 'At a personal level as I have watched this lion... and gloried in his magnificence and beauty. I was very deeply saddened by this.' Johnny Rodrigues, Chairman for Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, confirmed that Jericho was keeping the cubs safe from any rival males. Palmer has admitted killing the 13-year-old predator, who was fitted with a GPS collar as part of the Oxford University study. Environment minister Oppah Muchinguri said the dentist should be handed over to Zimbabwean officials to face justice, adding that she understood prosecutors had started the legal process to make that happen. She said: 'We are appealing to the responsible authorities for his extradition to Zimbabwe so that he can be made accountable for his illegal actions.' Muchinguri also said Palmer's use of a bow and arrow to kill the lion, who is said to have been lured out of Hwange National Park with bait before being shot, was in contravention of Zimbabwean hunting regulations. Professional Zimbabwean hunter Theo Bronkhorst insisted he did nothing wrong on the hunt that killed Cecil the lion, telling AFP he was shocked to find the animal was wearing a tracking collar. 'We were devastated... I left the collar there at the bait site and unfortunately that was stupid of me and negligent of me.' Bronkhorst was granted bail by the Hwange court on Wednesday after being charged with 'failing to prevent an illegal hunt' when he led the expedition in early July. Palmer, a life-long big game hunter, managed to return to the United States before the authorities were aware of the controversy around Cecil's death. 'It was too late to apprehend the foreign poacher because he had already absconded to his country of origin,' Muchinguri said. Tabby cat has been hailed a hero after finding an abandoned baby in a street and climbing in the box he had been left in to protect him from the cold. Making sure the three-month-old baby boy didn't freeze to death, the moggy was crying out to make people aware of the boy's presence. Irina Lavrova, 68, who lives near to where the little boy was found in Obinsk, Russia, was throwing out rubbish when she heard Masha the cat meowing near the bins. She went over to check Masha and could not believe her eyes when she saw the baby boy lying among next to the moggy. "You can imagine my shock when I saw her lying in a box next to a baby." "He was well-dressed with a little hat and whoever left him here had even left a few nappies and some baby food." The baby boy was taken by ambulance to hospital where he was given a check up and declared fit and healthy. A hospital spokesman said: "The baby had only been outside for a few hours and thanks to Masha and the child’s clothing he was not damaged by the experience." A police spokesman said officers were looking into the case and had launched a search for the baby’s mother. Extremely rare Ayam Cemani chickens from Indonesia are completely black and cost £1500 each
Lamborghini of Chickens - Extremely rare Ayam Cemani chickens are completely black and cost £1500 each. This expensive Ayam Cemani Chicken is completely black from head to toe comb to talon. The eyes, beak and even tongue are all jet black, while their feathers also shine emerald green in certain lights. Amazingly, the chickens’ dark hue runs right through their core, with their bones, meat and organs also being black. These birds, native to Indonesia, get their black colouring from a natural generic trait known as ‘fibromelanosis’. Don’t get too excited though, because like all rare and beautiful things these chickens come with a price tag, and one will set you back $2500 (£1519). No surprise then that The Cemani Chicken is sometimes referred to as the Lamborghini of Chickens, both because of the its monetary worth and because they look so cool. Mummy of meditating Buddhist monk found inside of 1,000-year-old Buddha statue
Buddha statue hides meditating Buddhist monk: Mummified remains of a monk have been found encased in a Buddha statue dating back to the 11th or 12th Century. Erik Bruijn, Buddhism expert, led the study that determined the mummy was of Buddhist master Liuquan, who belonged to the Chinese Meditation School. CT scan and endoscopy were carried out by Drents Museum at Meander Medical Centre in the Netherlands. While it was known before the scan that a mummy was inside the statue, it wasn't until then that researchers discovered that the monk's organs had been removed from his body, according to Colossal. Rolls of paper scraps covered in Chinese writing were discovered alongside the monk. After the scan, the mummy was taken to Budapest, where it will be on display at the Hungarian Natural History Museum until May 2015. Many practicing Buddhists believe that mummies like that of Buddhist master Liuquan aren't actually dead, but are rather in an advanced state of meditation, according to International Business Times. In January, mummified remains of a man apparently meditating in the lotus position were unearthed in Mongolia. The human relic is believed to be around 200 years old and was preserved in animal skin. Initial speculation is that the mummy could be a teacher of Lama Dashi-Dorzho Itigilov. Dashi-Dorzho Itigilov, born in 1852, was a Buryat Buddhist Lama of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Model With Rare Genetic Disorder: Inspirational Melanie Gaydos Became Top Fashion Model
Melanie Gaydos, 27, was born with ectodermal dysplasia, a genetic disorder that affects the growth of teeth, pores, cartilage, nails and even small bones. The condition means she is bald, and doesn't have any adult teeth. Melanie, a Connecticut native, talked to Yahoo! Style about getting her start in modeling, dealing with negative comments - and why she refuses to wear dental implants despite not having any teeth. 'People are more comfortable when I have teeth in my mouth,' she said, before adding: 'But I’m not.' Melanie also has a bilateral cleft palette and alopecia, which inhibits natural hair growth. Her form of alopecia causes ingrown hairs, and as a child, unchecked eyelash growth damaged her corneas and resulted in partial blindness. Having spent years dealing with the symptoms of her condition, it wasn't until she was 26 that Melanie, who counts Miley Cyrus among her fans, got her first set of false teeth, while appearing on the medical talk show The Doctors. But Melanie stopped wearing the dentures only eight months after the episode aired, saying that, although she thought getting teeth would be 'life-changing', she was actually happier the way she was. Of her inspiration to become a model, Melanie revealed: 'I always had this fascination of being larger than life. I wanted to be on a billboard or on a big movie screen.' 'I think it helps other people to see me in a different way rather than if they met me on the street, and what their preconceived notions might be,' she explained. Eventually, a boyfriend convinced her to try modeling: 'He helped me to understand that I am the only person who looks like me, that there was potential.' When asked if she is bitter about her disorder, Melanie said: 'No. It doesn’t bother me, and it never did. Or if it did, it’s because it was something people were telling me I should be upset about.' 'People used to ask me: How do you eat without teeth? Well, people with no legs run marathons.' UFO Hunters Find 'Disc From Alien Spacecraft That Landed On Earth A Million Years Ago' In Russia
'UFO Disk Found In Russia': Aliens may have landed on Earth a million years ago, according to a group that have apparently found debris from a UFO. UFO hunters have found a four-meter stone disc believed to be the remains of an ancient alien spacecraft in the Volgograd region of Russia. According to the Russian website Bloknot-Volgograd, an expedition by the Russian UFOlogy and Crytozoology group, Kosmopoisk, led by Vadim Chernobrov, discovered the disc in the Medveditskaya ridge, Zhirnovsky district, near Volgograd on September 9. 'It looks to me like the stone discs I’ve seen in Mars NASA photos, which leads me to conclude that this UFO is a military drone, but it was probably damaged during the Mars attack and got off course, crashing on Earth,’ wrote Scot Waring, from UFO Sightings Daily. The disc, which was one of several reportedly found in the area, is important as it may contain metal tungsten (Wolfram), which is used in military technology and could apparently be present in a UFO. The suggestion that part of the stone disc is tungsten metal is significant because it strengthens the notion that the disc is a product of alien spacecraft technology. Chernobrov said his team found a two-meter disc in Kuzbass, southwestern Siberia, and that the four-meter disc is the largest found so far. UFOlogists also claimed the find could be aged around one million years old. But as with all these things it should be taken with a huge pinch of salt, actually a bucket load. Experts are apparently looking at the disc that can be seen at Zhirnovsky museum. Incredible mysterious photo shows 'workman fixing space craft' on Mars
Is there life on Mars? Now those who believe there is life on Mars claim to have proof in the form of a set of photos from the Red Planet. Pictures, released by NASA, were taken by the Mars Curiosity Rover which is currently scouring the planet for signs of life. It shows what conspiracy theorists reckon is a 'workman' who appears to be fixing the craft. They say the shadow of a 'human-like' figure can be seen leaning over the space probe and carrying out repairs. It appears as if he is wearing a suit and and air tank, similar to those worn by human astronauts, however crucially he has no helmet. However scientists have poured cold water on the idea saying it is a figment of people's imaginations. Nigel Watson, author of the UFO Investigations Manual said: "This new image is more incredible because the human doesn’t appear to be wearing a helmet - not a good idea on the surface of Mars." "I think it is a case of "seeing" what we want to see, to confirm our expectations and hopes." "This underlines the fact that such things literally lurk in the shadows and play with our imagination." The Curiosity Rover was launched in November 2011 as part of a mission whose aim was to establish 'whether the region has ever offered conditions for microbial life.' Humpback Whale calf isolated and killed by Orcas before its mother returns, Pacific ocean
Heart-breaking moment: Grieving mother of a young humpback whale killed by orcas returns to her offspring's corpse in a desperate bid to save it. Photographer Craig McInally caught the moment two orcas tore the young humpback whale to pieces when he was diving off the Revillagigedo Islands in the Pacific. The orcas can be seen isolating the calf from its mother and killing it before its mother returns to its side having watched it being killed. Mr McInally said: 'In fifteen years of expeditions to the remote Revillagigedo Islands, the crew of the boat I was on had never seen orcas there, much less witness the orcas.' 'The attack was chaotic and horrible to watch.' The humpback calf can be seen swimming closely with its mother before the larger killer wales separate the pair before slowly drowning and killing the baby. 'The battle was hard to follow. The baby was trying to escape and get back to its mum, but the orcas coordinated the attack to keep the baby separate.' 'Finally, the orcas succeeded in drowning the baby and then fed on the blubber.' Extremely Rare Deep Sea Ragfish Washed Up In Alaska / Second Sighting In 40 Years
Rare Deep Sea Creatures: Alaska is known for unique fish sightings such as the century rockfish and white killer whales, but recently a creature that lives 4,000 feet under the sea has mystified experts. A six-foot ragfish was found washed up on the shore, which is only the second sighting in 40 years. It measured 65-inches long and was spotted near the dock in Gustavus, the headquarters of Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. The fish was discovered by a state transporter, according to Alaska Dispatch News. 'He was checking the dock and he noticed what he thought was a halibut,' said Craig Murdoch, a Park Service fisheries biologist. 'He checked it out, and it was a fish he had never seen before.' Ragfish are limp, rag doll-like creatures with extremely soft skin that can grow up to seven feet long. It has no scales and often finds itself as a meal for sperm whales. There are quite a few living deep under the ocean off the Alaskan coast, as some have been found caught in trawl nets - but rarely on shore. The last sighting of this alien-looking fish was back in July, when a 78-inch ragfish showed up on Bartlett Cove, explained Murdoch. Both of the fish were dead adult females that were full of eggs. 'There have not been many observations of ragfish, so it is hard to know the significance of two sightings in the same area within six months of each other'. Ragfish are believed to chow down on quid, octopuses and jellyfish, but the two found had empty digestive tracts, according to a Facebook message posted by the park. 'Having two sightings occur within a short period in the same area 'raises questions,' Murdoch said. 'Ragfish are native to waters of Alaska, so this is not likely a case of a southern fish being pushed north by warm waters'. In August, three men went on a deep-sea fishing trip off the coast of California and each of them caught an elusive opah fish. San Diego-based Excel Long Range Sportfishing, which takes groups out on multi-day fishing trips, posted at picture on Facebook of their surprise haul. Anglers Armando Castillo, Joe Ludlow and Travis Savala as they pose with their three orange disc-shaped fish, each weighing between 124 and 180 pounds. Opah, also known as Moonfish, are a rare catch for recreational fisherman since they don't travel in schools and therefore aren't commercially fished either. Instead, most are caught accidentally by fisherman looking for other fish, such as tuna. Opah also aren't known to stray often into southern California waters, preferring warmer waters in tropical and sub-tropical seas. Real-Life Rapunzel: Chinese Woman's Hair Grows To EIGHT Feet-Long For 35 Years
Longest Hair Women: 59-year-old Chinese woman has let her hair grow for 35 years, she believes long hair will help her achieve health and longevity. Gu Meiying, from Yunnan, southwest China, recently showcased her hair, which measured more than eight feet long, to Chinese media. It had matted together to form a single braid. The real-life Rapunzel now hopes to become a Guinness World Record holder with her extraordinary mane, reported People's Daily Online. According to reports, Gu Meiying started growing her hair in 1980 when she was just 24 years old. Initially, she tied her hair behind her back when she worked as a farmer. Later, when her hair became too long, it matted together to form a single braid and can no longer be separated. She then started wearing her hair in a nest above her head or wrapped around her waist. Her 8.3 feet-long locks can wrap around her head more than five times and forms a three-loop belt around her waist. Although Gu Meiying claims her hair doesn't stop her from working, she does find washing it difficult. Each time she washes her hair, it takes around a week for the mass to dry out completely. The farmer believes that long hair will help her achieve better health and longevity. She said: 'I always treat my long braid like a treasure and talisman. I think growing hair is like maintaining life so I haven't cut it.' Gu Meiying is of the Miao ethnic minority, one of China's 56 recognised ethnic minorities. Their cultural habits vary according to tribes but many, like Gu Meiying, believe that their hair is related to their life line and will only cut their hair once in their life. Some are said to collect the hair they lose every day in a bunch and wear it on their heads. One tribe, known as Long Horn Miao, even keep the hairs of their ancestors to fashion into elaborate head-dresses for festivals. Despite the impressive length of Gu Meiying's hair, she has a long way to reach a Guinness World Record. The record is currently held by a Chinese woman named Xie Qiuping. In 2004 when the record was established, Xie Qiuping had 18 feet of hair on her head. World's Largest Sailing Yacht (£260m) Is Owned By Russian billionaire Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko
Russian billionaire has upgraded his £190million superyacht for a new model - at a cost of £260million. Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko's 'Sailing Yacht A', simply named after its owner, is taking its test voyage in Kiel, northern Germany. This is the world's largest sailing superyacht as the Russian industrialist takes his quest to ruling the seas one step further. The vessel is an upgrade to the Russian billionaire's current multi-million pound 'Motor Yacht A', that set him back £190million. At 468ft in length, with ship masts nearing 300ft high, the 'mega-yacht,' has eight floors and includes an underwater observation room. Mr Melnichenko is expected to recover some of the costs by licensing the technology developed for the vessel for commercial applications. Melnichenko also owns a Boeing 737. The epic vessel boasts a staggering eight decks and its keel incorporates one of the largest single pieces of curved glass ever made at 193 square feet and weighs a whopping 1.8 tons. It dwarfs other famous super-yachts like The Maltese Falcon, which is 298ft and weighs 1,367 tons. Cruise speed of the ship is 18mph /15.6 knots/, with a top speed of 24mph /20.8 knots/. The yacht will have a high-tech digital control system operated using a touch sensitive sheet of black glass in the bridge. The 43-year-old was born in Belarus and is married to a former Serbian model. He was named as the 97th wealthiest person on the planet by Forbes, and the ninth richest in Russia. Mr Melnichenko, whose net worth is estimated at £6billion ($9billion), founded the fertilizer producer EuroChem, the coal producer Suek, the power generator SGK, and the pipe exporter TMK along with Sergei Popov. A spokesman for Mr Melnichenko told MailOnline it 'pushed the boundaries. 'Sailing Yacht A is a monument to invention.' Benjamin Maltby of MatrixLloyd, the global authority on superyachts', said Travel that while the yacht may be ready to sail, the interior design work will be ongoing. 'While she's been launched, the interior will take many more months to complete,' the company said. 'It's where the cash really gets splashed. Interiors typically cost at least £10,000 per square metre - and often much more.' 'Make no mistake - this will be a very significant ship. While precise details of the sailing rig have yet to be released, not since the days of the mighty clipper sailing ships, such as the Cutty Sark, has such a large sailing vessel been built. Boat International reports that the previous largest sailing yacht on the water is 96.35 metre Sea Cloud, a classic beauty launched in 1931, followed by the modern falcon-rigged iconic yacht Maltese Falcon at 88 metres LOA. Sailing Yacht A will handily surpass both of these. Music by Kevin MacLeod /Neo Western/ http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/ Blog: http://amazingworldnewsnow.blogspot.com

Duchess of Alba, Maria del Rosario Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart y de Silva, dies aged 88 in Seville
Duchess of Alba dies: One of Spain's wealthiest aristocrats who was listed as the world's most titled noble, has died aged 88. Maria del Rosario Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart y de Silva died at her home, the Duenas Palace, in Seville on Thursday morning, a family spokesman said. Earlier this week the mother of six had been treated for pneumonia in hospital but had been moved back to her house. She raised eyebrows in 2011 when at age 85 she wed her third husband, Alfonso Diez, a civil servant 25 years younger than her. The duchess celebrated the wedding by dancing flamenco on a red carpet leading to her palace. She overcame opposition to the marriage from her children by giving them their inheritance in advance. Mr Diez formally renounced any claim to her wealth, which is estimated to be between €600m (£480m) and €3.5bn (£2.8bn). "Nobody pressured me. I am not someone who lets herself be influenced," she told Spanish celebrity magazine Hola. Known for her frizzy hair and colourful dress sense, the duchess owned swathes of real estate, palaces, great houses and treasures including paintings by great masters from Goya to Velazquez. Known simply as Cayetana, she was the "queen" of the gossip press in Spain, but having her private life analysed in detail by the media did not appear to bother her. "If they forget you, you are nobody," the twice-widowed aristocrat told Spanish magazine Yo Dona in September 2011.
