Using an FME Dynamic Schema to convert GIS data to CAD

03:06
This brief movie demonstrates the use of Dynamic Schemas in FME, in this case to merge multiple Esri Shape datasets into a single AutoCAD Object Data file. The important part is for each Shape dataset to be written to a separate AutoCAD layer, and to have its own set of unique attributes. A Dynamic Schema is how we can achieve that using FME.

LiDAR Processing: How to thin, combine, and convert point cloud data

03:09
Article and sample data: https://knowledge.safe.com/content/kbentry/1070/thinning-and-combining-point-clouds.html?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=demo-videos This video demonstrates the PointCloudCombiner and PointCloudThinner transformers available in FME. Combining and thinning are common functions for processing LiDAR data. Thinning reduces the number of points in a uniform way, helping to manage the size of very large datasets. Combining merges multiple geometries together into a single point cloud, and can also be used to automatically convert a raster DEM to a point cloud. Episode 6: Coders on Couches Drinking Coffee - ARKit

03:44
Augmented reality is a powerful new way to understand 3D data. Since FME is so good at transforming data and converting different formats, we wanted to see if we could display 3D objects created by FME in a custom augmented reality app. In this episode of Coders on Couches Drinking Coffee, we chat with Angus, our AR developer, about what he's been working on. Angus has leveraged ARKit, Apple’s augmented reality framework, which can render 3D objects in OBJ format. When someone wants to use FME to see a 3D object in augmented reality, FME will zip up the OBJ file along with any associated textures, and name the zipfile with the .fmear extension. You can then upload this to the cloud, and use our AR app to see it on an iPhone or iPad. HERE Technologies Process Data with FME to Build Attractive Maps

02:49
HERE Technologies needed to make their maps attractive and show the correct level of detail to make regions easily identifiable by locals. The team uses FME to, for example, calculate river widths and discard the smallest rivers that do not have a good representation. The maps they output are readable, showing the correct level of information to make them easily identifiable by their region to those who know the area. The maps can then be successfully used to empower HERE’s business intelligence research. “FME really helps me with my daily activities. I do not code, so they code for me when I use the transformers.” -- Inês Leite, HERE Technologies

Get live WFS updates in ArcGIS

04:19
In ArcGIS, FME can help you get live updates on your spatial data by connecting to a WFS server. This is possible through the Data Interoperability Extension for ArcGIS (10.2 and later) and/or through the FME Extension for ArcGIS (FME 2013 SP1 and later). The way WFS data is accessed is a hybrid of live queries and caching, giving you the latest data while still allowing geoprocessing and attribute table viewing. Parameters allow you to choose a subset of the data to fetch initially, clip to bounds, read a maximum number of features, set constraints, and more. In this video you'll see a demo of how to get live updates each minute on a location point. Updates are shown when the expiry time passes and the user refreshes or moves the map.
