This film took about 3 years (from early 2003 to late 2006), mostly because I was working on another project I eventually dropped. Then I came back to this one, and I'm glad I did. Hand drawn, scanned into Photoshop, and painted in Photoshop. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Music: Carmina Burana by Carl Orff ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Special Jury Awards for Best Art Direction of the Festival and Swarovski Designer Award, International Jugendfilmfestival, Kundl, Austria Best of Festival, Digital Days Student Film Festival Santa Barbara Best Animation, Youth Division, Newport Beach Film Festival First Place High School Animation, Best Fest America, La Jolla First Place Animation, Santa Monica Teen Film Festival Best Animation, The International Student Film Festival Best High School Animation, After Hours Film Society Student Shorts, Illinois Selection, Chicago International Childrens Film Festival Selection, Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films Selection, Santa Barbara International Film Festival Selection, Mill Valley Film Festival Selection, Longbaugh Film Festival, Portland Selection, Redstick International Animation Festival, LSU Baton Rouge

A short week-long project. The prompt was "a downtrodden character encounters an effect and is changed by it". I more or less followed the prompt, I guess. This was my first "on-paper" animation project in a while. I used Prismacolor markers, and in some shots, keyed out the white--although it didn't work out as well as I'd hoped. The characters are sometimes see-though. The design for the dragon was later used in Reversal of the Heart Music: "Martina's Ambition and Persistance" from Slayers Sound Bible I, "Record of the Journey" from Slayers Et Cetera OST 1, and "If our enemies are goofballs, our allies are bigger goofballs," from Slayers Try OST 2

A somewhat abstract animation, which was, at the time, new for me. I basically just wanted to experiment with the Photoshop glow effects, which made the characters appear neon. This project took me about a week to complete, and a nice episode of carpal tunnel. Music: "Violin Minuet of Despair" from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei

My piece for the opening ceremony of the New World Symphony 2011, part of a series of student animations celebrating Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition in collaboration with Michael Tilson Thomas, conductor of the New World Symphony. The animation was projected over 5 different Imax-sized screens, as seen here: https://carolyn-chrisman.squarespace.com/blog/2012/9/25/goldenberg-and-schmuyle-new-world-symphony-project-2011 The video has been resized and re-edited to fit an HD format.

My final project for the fall semester 08, drawn in Photoshop, with some shots filmed against green screen, and composited in After Effects. I'm more proud of this one than my spring 09 project, not only because it was more fun to do, but it's also more fun to watch. Music: "Cirque Du Loco (No Vox)" by X-Ray Dog

I was not idle this past year! I had a few freelance projects here and there, and here are some excerpts from those, in addition to some stuff from my stint at a studio. Pretty much everything on here belongs to the people/entities mentioned in the clips--I'm just using it as proof that I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. :) Music is "Mambo No. 5" by Yoko Kanno

My first animated film, completed in 2003, when I was about 13. Hand-drawn, colored with colored pencils. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is my first solo animation project (before I had worked in groups on Animatics) and it's also one of the few I did not do a storyboard for (not a good idea, by the way). Instead I just listened to the music and animated what I saw in my head. I spent the first half of 2002 working on the pencil drawings, test-shooting them over and over. Then I colored the whole thing with colored pencils over winter break and New Years, hunched over the table while it snowed outside. I went through so much "Olive Green" pencils that I had to regularly buy them at the art store. I still have a few of them left in my drawer, but now they're nothing but stubs. ^_^" Despite how much work I put into the project, I never had an ending planned (which shows) and opted, in the last minutes of shooting with my teacher, John Teton, to hastily draw the transformation with my leftover pencil stubs. Looking back, I'm amused at the last shot, which shows the table and the sticky notes I used to keep the pages in place. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Drawings: approximately 500 Filmed on a DV camera using a Lunchbox and edited in Adobe Premiere 7.5 Music: "Earth Resonance" by Yoko Kanno, Earth Girl Arjuna Original Soundtrack 1 "Prophet" by Yoko Kanno, Earth Girl Arjuna Original Soundtrack 1 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Awards and Selections: • First Place 2D Animation, Santa Barbara International Film Festival Digital Days • First Place Animation, The International Student Film Festival • Bronze Award, Kalamazoo Animation Festival International • Honorable Mention, Ojai Film Festival, Teen Films • Selection, Anima Mundi, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil • Selection, Chicago International Childrens Film Festival • Selection, Ottawa International Student Animation Festival • Selection, Santa Cruz Film Festival

Messing with stock footage for a Visual Music assignment. Some of the cues are off, and I noticed a shot near the end was not resized to fit the screen, but it passes quickly enough. -_-" I had a lot of fun with the assignment, though. All done in Adobe Premiere (not After Effects, surprisingly). Song: "Controlling the Iron Beast" by Takeharu Ishimoto, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core Soundtrack

I spent a week or two putting these galaxy animations together to use as skin textures for the characters in my next short, and they turned out pretty enough to make a lil' video of them. Used Hubble images and altered/animated/added to them in After Effects, with a little Sapphire for AE thrown in. Music excerpts mixed together: "Lost in Thought" by Jon Hopkins "Chapter 23" by Yoko Kanno

The hopgoblin makes a new friend(?) Here's a little something I put together for my lovely subscribers to celebrate hitting the 1,000 followers benchmark. You guys are great! I've got tons of new projects to plan out and animate, so stay tuned! Music is Rachmaninoff's piano concerto no. 2 - 3. Allegro Sherzando (sped up by 30%)

An animation test for my next short, Canary 751. The main character is based on a parasaur. The design and compositing of the character is not at 100% yet, but getting there! I put this together to see how the different textures and clips would mesh together. Also, here's some pre-production stuff on my site: http://carolynchrisman.com/blog/2012/9/5/canary-751-pre-production

Another test, consisting of multiple Photoshop layers and Flash animations composited in After Effects. Backgrouns by the lovely: http://ashcap.deviantart.com/ For my senior thesis.

I guess this would be considered 2.5D rather than 3D or 2D. The mountain consists of 3 Photoshop layers animated in After Effects, plus cloud layers. Lit with Sapphire for AE. The dragon is Flash. For my senior thesis film.
