https://pluginforage.com How to Enqueue a WordPress Child Theme Style Sheet If you don't know how to make a WordPress child theme you need to see this video first: https://youtu.be/WQ4JiOXXYqY We will look learn how to Enqueue a WordPress child theme: - Look at the old @import method - Create a functions.php - Enqueue the parent and child style.css Code Snippet used in the video: http://skeeterz71.com/how-to-enqueue-wordpress-child-theme-style-sheet/ For an in-depth video on how to create a child theme for WordPress, view my video "How to Create a WordPress Child Theme" Just note that you should ignore the @import method shown in that video and use the enqueue method shown in this video. The final step is to enqueue the parent and child theme stylesheets. Note that the previous method was to import the parent theme stylesheet using @import: this is no longer best practice. The correct method of enqueuing the parent theme stylesheet is to add a wp_enqueue_scripts action and use wp_enqueue_style() in your child theme's functions.php. You will therefore need to create a functions.php in your child theme directory. http://SkeeterZ71.com Video Tutorials: Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, WordPress, DNN Programming Tutorials: C, C#, C++, CSS, HTML, Java, PHP, JavaScript, jQuery

How to Create a Child Theme for WordPress Twenty Sixteen Theme

11:35
Download "15 Tools to Start Your Web Design Business" PDF from the link below: https://goo.gl/hARsLV Learn how to create a child theme of an existing theme in this WordPress child theme tutorial, specifically using the WordPress developed Twenty Sixteen (2016) theme. A WordPress child theme consists of one directory, the child theme directory, which contains two or more files ("style.css" and "functions.php" are only required). You will need to create these components and then upload them to your web server. These are the steps needed to add a child theme for WordPress: 1) Create Child Theme Folder (within the "wp-content/themes" directory) - It's best to use "parenttheme-child" naming convention, where you replace "parenttheme" with the name of the WordPress theme you are customizing, and "child" with the name for your customized WordPress child theme. NOTE: Be sure not to include spaces within the directory name, or else you may cause an error. 2) Create "style.css" where you will add all CSS custom code to tweak the WordPress web design. Editing style.css in your child theme vs. the parent theme means that you won't lose your custom CSS design if the parent theme is updated. Make certain that you have the correct parent theme name listed under the "Template" field. 3) Create "functions.php" and copy/paste code from the link below to correctly load parent theme & child theme "style.css" files https://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes 4) Upload your child theme directory with style.css and functions.php to your web server. I do this using an FTP client program like FileZilla. 5) Activate your new child theme in the "Appearance - Themes" section, you are ready to roll. 6) Update CSS Styles to Test. I test the CSS background property by changing it from black to dark red. That's it, you've successfully created your Twenty Sixteen Child Theme for your WordPress website. You can now edit and add to this child theme style.css to get the perfect look and feel for the site. ___________________________________ ► Become a Freelancer, Make Money with Your Skills! How To Duplicate Files From The Main WordPress Theme To The Child Theme | WP Learning Lab

03:44
Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL Download our exclusive 10-Point WP Hardening Checklist: http://bit.ly/10point-wordpress-hardening-checklist How To Duplicate Files From The Main WordPress Theme To The Child Theme | WP Learning Lab In this quick tutorial you will learn a little bit about the WordPress Child Theme Hierarchy and how to easily duplicate files to your child theme folder. First the Child Theme Hierarchy. This is the order in which WordPress looks for theme files and it is the reason child themes work. When WordPress looks for the header.php file it will first look in the child theme folder, if one exists. If there is a header.php file present in the child theme folder it will load that one. If there is no header.php file present in the child theme folder it will load the header.php file from the main theme folder. So it goes for many of the important files, including but not limited too: header.php, footer.php, page.php, single.php, and style.css. You can read more about the hierarchy here: https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/basics/template-hierarchy/ So, if you want to make changes to the header.php template file of your theme without having those changes potentially overwritten when you update your theme then you will want to create a child theme. Watch this video on how to create a child theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8n1h-85SMQ To duplicate the files first login into either the File Manager for your website in your host's cPanel or log into your website's folder using FTP. Then go to the parent theme folder and select the files that you want in your child theme. Then either click the "Copy" icon at the top of the File Manager or right click and select "Copy". You will asked where you want to copy the files too. Choose the path to your child theme and click 'ok'. The files will then be copied to the child theme folder. Ready for you to start editing theme. The most important reason to have a child theme is so that the parent theme can be wordpress customization without overwriting your child theme. All of the specific customizations you've made for your site will be preserved within the child theme on Wordpress websites. For example, if you want to change the sidebar php file, you can either start from scratch or grab a copy from the parent theme and upload it to the child theme directory. Step 3: how to create a Wordpress child theme! You will need to activate your theme just like you would any other theme. Go to Dashbaord - Appearance - Themes and activate your new Wordpress websites. That's all you need to do in order to start using child themes. Parent and child themes might sound complicated if you've never used them before, but the process is actually quite simple. You can add your own child theme in minutes. This is a quick tutorial to get you off the ground, but with a little bit of knowledge about how WordPress templates work, you'll be able to do virtually anything you want with how to create a Wordpress child theme. How to Create a WordPress Child Theme - Video wordpress themes, wordpress child theme, wordpress customization, wordpress websites, wordpress blog Creating a child theme is very easy. It's important to note that your child theme does not go inside of the parent theme directory. Rather, the child theme lives side by side in the same directory as the parent theme. Aside from child themes, there are two other ways we can create a theme that's based off of another tutorial. The first way is to just modify that theme. However, if we do that and the theme is updated, we will lose all of our changes. The second way is to copy that theme into another folder and go from theme. In essence, what this means is we can build upon the parent theme without modifying its files. We can change the CSS, add a custom post type, or build in our own set of functions. This is also the recommended way of how to create a Wordpress child theme. Create A WordPress Child Theme Within The Next Half Hour | WP Learning Lab

Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL Download our exclusive 10-Point WP Hardening Checklist: http://bit.ly/10point-wordpress-hardening-checklist Create A WordPress Child Theme Within The Next Half Hour | WP Learning Lab add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'theme_enqueue_styles' ); function theme_enqueue_styles() { wp_enqueue_style( 'parent-style', get_template_directory_uri() . '/style.css' ); } In this tutorial I'm going to show you how to create a WordPress child theme. Why would you want to create WordPress child themes? That's a good question. WordPress child themes allow you to make changes to your active WordPress parent theme. When that parent theme is updated, your changes are not overwritten because they are in the child theme. This is a WordPress customization that will get you more familiar with how WordPress themes work and give small peak into how to build a WordPress theme. Just has an FYI, using a WordPress child theme works with parent themes that have WordPress theme frameworks. To create child theme the first thing you have to do is log into your hosting account cPanel or log into your site via FTP. Once in the cPanel, open the File Manager for your website. Next, double click on the wp-content folder, then double click the themes folder. Inside that folder you will create a new folder and name it after the parent theme name. For example, in the tutorial we make a child them for the Avada theme. The Avada theme folder is called "Avada". So we called the child theme's folder "Avada-child". Once you've created the new folder, double click it to open it. Then create a new blank file called "style.css". Now go into the parent theme folder. Find and open the style.css file. Highlight and copy the first part of the file where the theme information is. Close that file and go back to the style.css file you created inside your child theme folder. Open that blank style.css file and paste in the text you just copied. You will need to change the "Theme name:" to something like "Avada Child". Then you will add a new line and type "Template: " without the quotation marks. After Template type in the exact name of the WordPress parent theme folder. Type it exactly with the same. This is case-sensitive. After you've completed those two things click on "Save Changes" and you're done. Go back to your child theme folder and create a new file called functions.php. Inside that blank file, open a PHP tag and paste in the code below: add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'theme_enqueue_styles' ); function theme_enqueue_styles() { wp_enqueue_style( 'parent-style', get_template_directory_uri() . '/style.css' ); } Then save changes. Now go back to your WordPress dashboard, go to Appearance then Themes. You will now see a WordPress child theme; activate it. Go to your website and you'll see it looks the exact same as before, which is what we want. You can now make edits to the style.css in the child theme to change how the site looks. When the parent theme is updated all of your changes are still in effect. I hope this information helps you completed this WordPress customisation! How To Safely Customize Your Genesis Child Theme

10:51
UPDATE: You do not need to create a custom.css file. StudioPress recommends updating style.css in your child theme directly. To keep your styles in one place you can add new styles to the bottom of your style.css file -- or in the original location within the file. When you add a new style, be sure to replace the existing style so there is only one style for that particular element that is being changed. Also, another option: to keep your new style customizations organized, you can use a WordPress plugin like Jetpack Custom CSS or Simple Custom CSS plugin and add your styles in the plugin's interface for custom styles. http://77webstudio.com ************ WATCH THE FULL VIDEO TUTORIAL: How To Create A Professional Website (Genesis Executive Pro Child Theme & WordPress) This video is an excerpt of the full video tutorial, "How to create an AMAZING, customized business website using Genesis child theme Executive Pro & WordPress".
