Who names drugs? Why all the funny names? A number of months ago, we did an episode on how a drug comes to market with the help of out HCT intern, pharmD student Rachel Hoffman. She also helped us out with our episode on Flibanserin. We get a lot of questions from you about drugs. What's the difference between a generic and name brand drug? How do people feel about them? What's the difference with biologics? With her help, we're going to tackle those in the upcoming weeks. Let's start at the beginning. What's in a name? That which we call a drug. By any other name would be so . . . effective? Brand name and generic drugs: are there any differences? Who regulates them? And what's with all the names anyway? That's the topic of today's HealthCare Triage. The names and logos of famous brands have a secret meaning you've never heard of. Each company logo has a story behind it. Many brand names seem meaningless to us but have an interesting explanation in the language of the country they come from. “Lego” means “play well” in Danish, “Fanta” comes from German “Fantasie”, Chupa Chups was named so after the Spanish verb “chupar”, which means “to suck”, “Samsung” is Korean for “3 stars”. “Pandora” has to do with a myth of the creation of the first human woman named Pandora. As for the logos, some of them were inspired by real sights, such as the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany for Disney. Others have historical meaning, such as the red cross from the city of Milan’s emblem, and the bloodthirsty crowned viper of the House of Visconti in Alfa Romeo’s logo. The Chupa Chups symbol as we know it was designed by super famous artist Salvador Dali himself. TIMESTAMPS Disney 0:30 Lego 1:06 Pepsi 1:33 Fanta 2:13 Chupa Chups 2:40 Nintendo 3:26 Pandora 4:01 Häagen-Dazs 4:45 Cadillac 5:25 Durex 5:55 Levi’s 6:22 eBay 6:57 Samsung 7:26 Sega 8:04 Audi 8:40 Alfa Romeo 9:20 SUMMARY -The current Disney logo was inspired by the Cinderella Castle and created in 2006. -“Lego” comes from the Danish phrase “leg godt”, which means “play well”. -Look at Pepsi’s logo from a different angle and you will get a creepy message. -Try to say “fantasy” in German to understand where the word “Fanta” comes from. -You will be surprised to know Salvador Dali designed the Chupa Chups logo. -The 3 Japanese characters “Nin-ten-do” mean “leave luck to heaven”. -“Pandora” logo with a crown promises you excellent royal quality. -If you were wondering what “Häagen-Dazs” means, you’ll be sad to find out it stands for nothing. -Cadillac was named after French explorer Sieur de Cadillac, founder of Detroit. -“Durex” stands for “durability, reliability, and excellence”. -Pay close attention to “Levi’s” logo to see what body part it’s covering. -“eBay” is the short for Echo Bay, not “Electronic Bay” as many people think. -“Sam” in Korean means “3,” and “Sung” stands for “star”. - You will be surprised to find out that SEGA stands for “Service Games of Japan.” -“Horch” means “listen” in German, and “Audi” is the same thing in Latin. -The Alfa Romeo logo has the city of Milan’s emblem and the symbol of the House of Visconti in it. How to design a successful logo? How to build a famous brand for your business? Some of the most well-known logos in the world were purposefully designed to indicate something much more than simple beauty. In fact, it seems that in some cases, every line, curve, and color has meaning behind it. Adidas, Apple, BMW, Coca-Cola, Toyota… We see these famous brands everywhere but never consider what their logos exactly mean. Curious to know the secret? Watch the 16 famous logos with a hidden meaning you've never noticed. #logomeaning #logosecret # Hyundai 0:33 The letter ’Н’ symbolizes two people – a client and a representative of the company – shaking hands. Adidas 0:52 The current logo is three stripes at an angle which together form a triangle. This symbolizes a mountain, which in turn represents the challenges that all sportsmen have to overcome day after day. Apple 1:21 Rob Janoff, the designer who came up with the world-famous Apple company logo, explained his idea in one of his interviews. He bought a bag of apples, placed them in a bowl, and spent time drawing them for a week, trying to break the image down into something simple. Vaio 1:58 The first two letters of the Vaio logo symbolize an analogue wave. The last two are similar to the numbers 1 and 0 — that is, symbols of a digital signal. Amazon 2:14 The orange arrow is similar to a smile because the company wants its customers to be satisfied. The arrow is also stretched between the letters ’A’ and ’Z’, in a hint that the company sells absolutely every product you can imagine. Baskin Robbins 2:40 The pink-colored parts of the "BR" section make up the number 31, which is how many ice cream flavors Baskin Robbins used to famously sell. Toyota 2:56 The logo represents a stylized image of a needle eye with a thread passing through it. This is a hint at the company’s past – they used to produce weaving machines. Continental 3:28 Continental, a famous car tire producer, has a logo in which the first two letters depict a car wheel. Formula 1 3:41 If you look carefully at the white space between the letter ’F’ and the red stripes, you can see the number 1. Pinterest 3:59 On Pinterest, people collect images they like from across the Internet and ’pin’ them to their online boards. That’s why the image of a pin is hidden in the letter P. Beats 4:17 Beats, an audio equipment producer based in the USA, uses a logo in which the letter ’B’ looks like headphones on a person’s head. Toblerone 4:32 The famous chocolate company based in Bern, Switzerland, has a silhouette of a bear in its logo. That's because Bern is sometimes called a city of bears. BMW 4:55 The logo is simply a part of the Bavarian flag, the area of Germany where the company originated. LG 5:18 The logo is a stylized image of a person’s face. According to the company, this represents its aspiration to have human relations with their customers. Evernote 5:34 The corner of the elephant’s ear is folded over in a similar way how people fold the corner of a page to make notes. Coca-Cola 5:57 In the space between the letters ’O’ and ’L’, you can see the Danish flag. It’s purely a coincidence. Nevertheless, Coca-Cola has used this as part of its marketing campaigns in the Scandinavian country. If you’ve enjoyed this video, hit that thumbs up button! http://timothy-thomas.com Create brand names, branding yourself, and rebranding to get the most exposure for your business. Stop chasing customers and business partners. That is not the way to conduct a successful business. Build a brand by building rapport and credibility. You don't have to hire some super expensive marketing firm to get it done, although it is easier to just pay someone if you don't know what you are doing. Here is what you need to do. 1. Come up with some cool brand names for yourself. Here is a hint. Your name!!!! 2. Learn the art of branding yourself. How do you do that? First you need a personally branded website. Not your boring site, but something with a little more customization and excitement. Stop trying to sell people. Just focus on people problems and let then know how you can solve their problems. Stop trying to sell everything to everybody. Just focus on the customers problems. 3. Learn about rebranding. According to Wikipedia... Rebranding is is a marketing strategy in which a new name, term, symbol, design, or combination thereof is created for an established brand with the intention of developing a new, differentiated identity in the minds of consumers, investors, and competitors. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebranding These are 3 simple techniques you can use to create brand names for yourself or business, ways of branding yourself but customizing your website, facebook, twitter, google plus, youtube channel, pinterest, instagram, etc, and lastly rebranding which is really shutting down the old you and recreating a new you. Kind of like a night club doing a building remodeling job and then changing the name. That is what you call rebranding. People like new shiny things, and they will pay for it. Shoppers often purchase private brands, because they usually offer discounted prices. Target is using this as incentive to get more customers. They are revamping Target products, by labeling them a different new and exciting brands. One example is the brand ‘Cat & Jack.’ A Target brand of children’s clothing and according to business experts Targets changing it’s in-house labels is working. More of their products are being purchased. http://www.businessinsider.com/target-private-label-goodfellow-review-2017-8 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

We often get asked which shoe brand to buy to ensure you are getting a good shoe. Sorry there is no easy answer, most brands make both low and better quality shoes. Don’t be brand loyal be shoe loyal. Subscribe to our YouTube channel for more footwear and foot health videos. Visit our website for more information on Foot Solutions Halifax www.footsolutions.com/halifax Check out our Pinterest page for shoe pictures and much more at www.pinterest.com/FSHalifax Big Brand Names Closed Caption Text Hi thanks for joining me, my name is David I am the Certified Pedorthist here at Foot Solutions Halifax. I often get asked the question about of which brand you should buy to guarantee a good shoe or good shoe fit. Unfortunately big brand names do not guarantee you a good shoe. The big brands usually have a full range of shoes from low to high quality, with the low end most commonly stocked which you find in the stores today. A good shoe has a strong counter and you can't twist it through the midfoot and you usually have a centimeter or a third of an inch in front of you longest toe standing. Price is often the most reliable indicator even if it is a big brand name - fashion shoes excepted of course. Keep on walking.

Check out meanings behind 10 names of companies. Let's face it. A lot of companies have strange names. Sure, often they're recognizable because the company is a famous one, but beyond than that, are they really decipherable? To help clear up some of the confusion and mystery, here are the explanations behind 10 weird ones. Number 10. Lego. This one's particularly tricky because it's in Danish and it's been shortened. The name is derived from the words leg godt, which means to play well. Number 9. Reebok. It's a variation on rhebok, the Afrikaans word for a local antelope. It was picked from a South African dictionary one of the founders won in a race as a child. Number 8. Pepsi-Cola. The drink was named both for an enzyme called pepsin to highlight the drink's superior ability to aid in digestion, and after the kola nut extract it contained. Not exactly the hip image they promote today. Number 7. Kia. For those who know how to speak Korean, this one is pretty straightforward. In the language KIA translates as 'rising Asia'. Number 6. Panera. They could have just called it pan, which in slight variations means bread in a few languages, but their vision was much grander. Instead they chose Panera, the Latin way of saying the 'time of bread', which is definitely more encompassing. Number 5. Google. If you've long thought that Google was really a subtle command to go ogle stuff on the Internet you're not alone. The name, however, is really a take on Googol, the math term for a 1 that's followed by a hundred zeros. It reflects the founders' desire to make order out of endless amounts of information. Number 4. Volkswagen. Literally, it means the people's car, but it represents the realization of a long-pursued goal in Germany. For years, automakers tried but failed to make a car all could afford. Eventually, Volkswagen succeeded. Number 3. Canon. Back when it was called the Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory, trial cameras were named Kwanon after the Buddhist goddess of mercy. When it came time to market the brand, the similar sounding option Canon came into play -- and favor -- as it means the standard by which others are judged. Number 2. Sony. A combination of Latin and slang, the name is a blend of 'sonus', the root of sound and sonic and 'sonny boy' a 1950s Japanese street term for forward-looking youth. Number 1. Nokia. The company has always been in the business of enabling communication, but when it started in 1865 their product was paper. A second mill built a few years later along the shore of Finland's Nokianvirta river resulted in the company's new name in 1871.

Trademarks vs Trade Names Secure Your Brand with Trademark Factory® Risk-Free, Guaranteed. https://www.trademarkfactory.com What is the difference between trademarks and trade names, or company names? Trade names, or company names, are designed to identify the company, the business. They are designed to identify YOU. Whereas trademarks are designed to identify a product or a service. And there is a big, big difference. So a trade name, or a company name, protect the name of the company no matter what the company does, and in most countries, if you register a company name, that business can do anything. So if you are a software company, it does not mean that you can’t sell balloons, or pens, or refrigerators, or offer some services under that same legal name. However, it is very different from trademarks where trademarks are registered in association with particular products and services. Remember, the function of a trademark is to let the market tell your products and services apart from identical products and services or similar products and services of everyone else. It does not mean that trademarks are designed to protect the company name. It does not mean that you can’t protect a company name through a trademark. But it has to be a name that the company is using AS their trademark. So for example, Microsoft, they get the protection for their company name not because it is their company name, but because that’s part of the product name Microsoft Windows, Microsoft this. Microsoft that. And also because they are providing services under that name—and that’s what trademarks protect. So trade names, or company names, there is nothing that prevents you from having one name for a company and completely different product names or service names that you can get as a trademark. So when you incorporate your business, just because you’re able to register your company where a particular name, it does not mean that you now have a trademark. It doesn’t mean that the name is protected. It doesn’t mean that you’re done. These are two completely separate areas of government who look at it. The Trademarks Office is separate from the Corporate Office. So make sure that if your names, brand names, if they’re valuable to you, that you register them as a trademark and don’t rely solely on the registration of your company name. ----------------------------------- Trademark Factory® resources: ★ Website: https://trademarkfactory.com ★ ☆ YouTube Channel: https://youtube.com/trademarkfactory.com ☆ ★ Facebook Page: https://facebook.com/thetrademarkfactory ★ ☆ Twitter: https://twitter.com/realTMfactory ☆ ★ Kick-Ass Brands Show: http://kickassbrandsshow.com ★ ☆ Kick-Ass Brands Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/kickassbrands ☆

In this video, I’ll show you how to How to Come Up With a Business Name and the Best Company Names for your brand. So, if you have been wondering, “how to come up with a company name” then the startup name generator and random company name generator that I use will help you with creative business names. Also, deciding between your name and your company name for your business can be hard, so how to come up with a brand name has been broken down into three easy steps for how to name your business. ★☆★ DOWNLOAD HERE ★☆★ THE ONE HOUR STARTUP CHECKLIST http://bit.ly/bbStartUpCk STEP #1 — Brainstorm and create. The key is to be clear about what you want and where you are going. Think long-term. Start out by choosing three keywords, your content, product or services center around. What are your brand and influencers using? Research and study your mentors, and competition. These are all great indicators of maybe some names that you could come up with or play off of. Also, make sure that your name is something memorable, that people are going to remember you by and it’s easily searchable in search engines. If it’s a crazy name or has some kind of crazy spelling it’s going to be hard for people to find you. I’ve learned that just from whenever I created my name. Also, pick a name that you can grow with or grow into. You have to decide what you want to be known as with your brand and make sure that it is something that you can grow with or grow into as your brand continues to grow in the products and services that you offer. STEP #2 — Decide whether to use your name or your business name. The biggest question I had and I get a lot from other entrepreneurs is should I use my name or my business name. The easiest way to answer this is to think about what you’re going to be offering. www.YourName.com — Are you going to be offering programs, different types of brands under your name. If you’re an expert, an author, some type of coach or speaker, then this might be a great opportunity for you to brand yourself and your business as your name. www.BusinessName.com — If you’re going to be selling something one day like a product or specific service then you might want to choose a name that’s more fitting for your business. It would be a www.BusinessName.com versus www.YourName.com. Step #3 — Research. You want to make sure and do research on Google search engine to see what comes up when you put your name in. Also, you want to do research on your social media handles. Check which social media platforms that you’re going to be active on and think long-term. You might want to go ahead and grab those ahead of time. That way those don’t get taken when you decide that you do want to use them. Social media handles are really important and you want to have a unique look and feel across all platforms. Make sure that you’re checking hashtags if there is a hashtag that you think you want to use or if somebody else is using that hashtag. Check a domain search engine like godaddy.com. You can search for blogginbrandi.com, foodsuppliers.net, or whatever it is that you decide that you want to do, just check to see if that domain name is available, if somebody is already using it or not. You don’t want to use a name that somebody is already using. Do you need help coming up with a name? Don’t you worry. I got you covered. Resources that I’ve used are name generators. I’ve done contest sites as well as using fiver.com where you could get somebody to come up with a name for you for $5. Here are some of the Name Generators I have used: ☆Shopify - https://www.shopify.com/tools/business-name-generator ☆Wordoid - http://wordoid.com/ ☆ Hipster - http://www.hipsterbusiness.name/ Let’s review: Think long-term. Decide what key words and topic areas your business is centered around. If you’re an expert selling your knowledge then you’re going to want to use www.YourName.com If you’re going to be selling a product or service you may want to use your www.BusinessName.com. You’d think that the most successful companies in the world invest good money for their logos to be picture-perfect, yet even Google isn’t immune to messing up a logo design. Pay attention to 10 super famous company logos that are hiding something or have design fails and mistakes in them. We all know what the White House looks like, and you’d think there’d be no possible difficulties recreating it in an image. However, there were at least 3 attempts to create a logo, all of which resulted in mistakes. Wikipedia’s logo representing knowledge has a really embarrassing mistake right in the middle of the image! You wouldn’t catch it unless you know Chinese, so we’ll let you in on the big secret. Some people saw a man bending over vomiting in the London Olympics logo, while others were joking that it looked like Lisa Simpson in a compromising position. Salvador Dali hired to design the Chupa Chups logo put the brand’s name on a bright daisy and insisted that the logo be placed on top of the wrapper so that everyone could see it. And it’s basically stayed the same since then! When asked about the imperfection of letter “G” in their logo, Google chose the best route a person can when explaining his or her mistakes. They simply said that they’re aware of the inaccurate “G”, but that was all part of the plan! This slight imperfection makes their image playful and approachable. It’s not the complete perfect circle it’s supposed to be, and the inner circle is also far from ideal.
