For four years government forces and Kremlin-backed rebels have been fighting in eastern Ukraine. Now, Russia is being accused of trying to blockade the country. It's had an impact on the Ukrainian ports of Mariupol and Berdyansk, where earnings have fallen by almost a quarter in the first seven months of 2018, compared to last year. Along with Kiev, the European Union and the United States say the strategy is part of Moscow's military expansion in the Sea of Azov. And many are concerned the tensions could escalate. MOSCOW (AP) — Russia and Ukraine traded accusations over an incident at sea Sunday near the disputed Crimean Peninsula, increasing tensions between both countries and prompting Moscow to block passage through the Kerch Strait. Russia’s coast guard said that three Ukrainian navy ships made an unauthorized crossing through Russian territorial waters, while Ukraine alleged that one of its boats was rammed by a Russian coast guard vessel. The Kerch Strait is a narrow body of water nestled between Crimea and the Russian mainland. The incident began after the Ukrainian navy claimed a Russian coast guard vessel rammed one of its tugboats, which was traveling with two Ukrainian navy artillery boats from Odessa on the Black Sea to Mariupol in the Sea of Azov, via the Kerch Strait. “Russian coast guard vessels … carried out openly aggressive actions against Ukrainian navy ships,” the Ukrainian navy statement said. It said a Russian coast guard ship damaged the tugboat’s engine, hull, side railing and a lifeboat. The statement added that Russia had been informed in advance about the planned journey. Russia then blocked off the strait. The move comes after months of growing tensions between Ukraine and Russia, which annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014 and has steadily worked to increase its zone of control around the peninsula. The Kerch Strait is the only passage into the Sea of Azov beyond it. The strait is crossed by the recently completed Kerch Bridge, connecting Crimea to Russia. Transit under the bridge has been blocked by a tanker ship, and dozens of cargo ships awaiting passage are stuck. Russia has not given any indication of how long it will keep the strait blocked off, but a long-term closure to civilian traffic would amount to an economic blockade of Ukrainian cities on the Azov coast. And Russia’s Black Sea Fleet greatly outmatches the Ukrainian navy. Ukrainian cities on the Sea of Azov include strategically vital centers such as Mariupol — the closest government-controlled city to Donetsk and Luhansk, the breakaway regions of eastern Ukraine controlled by Russia-backed separatists. Russia’s Federal Security Service, known as the FSB, told Russian news agencies Sunday that the Ukrainian ships held their course and violated Russian territorial waters. The FSB accused the Ukrainian navy of staging a provocation against Russia. “Their goal is clear,” an FSB statement said — “to create a conflict situation in the region.” The statement didn’t mention ramming a Ukrainian tugboat. Though a 2003 treaty designates the Kerch Strait and Sea of Azov as shared territorial waters, Russia has been asserting greater control over the passage since 2015. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Russia’s actions were a violation of the U.N. Charter and international law, and pledged to “promptly inform our partners about Russia’s aggressive actions.” “Such actions pose a threat to the security of all states in the Black Sea region,” the statement said, “and therefore require a clear response from the international community.” Dmitry Kiselyov, a commentator on the state-controlled Rossiya channel, told viewers of his Sunday evening news program that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko — encouraged by the U.S. — is looking to pick a fight with Russia in the Black Sea. The talk show host also said that the U.S. talked Poroshenko into staging a provocation against Russia as a means to disrupt the upcoming meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump at this week’s Group of 20 summit in Argentina. “What is happening now at the (Kerch) bridge threatens to turn into a very unpleasant story,” Kiselyov warned. http://bit.ly/2Bwy0hF Subscribe To The New Channel: https://www.youtube.com/POTUSTrumpKAG ✝ Please Donate Just $1 A Month. One of the pressing issues at the G20 summit is the rising tension between Moscow and Kyiv. Martial law has been put in effect in the Ukraine, Russia deployed missile systems in Crimea, President Trump’s summit snub of Vladimir Putin, a lot has happened in less than a week since Russian security services fired on and captured 3 small Ukrainian navy vessels heading through the Kerch strait. Our correspondent Nick Connolly has been to Mariupol, the front line port city for Ukraine's fleet to investigate. The three Ukrainian naval ships were heading for the port of Mariupol in the Sea of Azov. Amid heightened tension between the countries Russia had shut off access to the Sea of Azov from the Black Sea, and accused Ukraine of entering its territorial waters without permission. The European Union and NATO have urged both sides to show restraint and “de-escalate the situation immediately” and the UN Security Council was to meet Monday to discuss the situation.

The exercises are scheduled to take place in the Sea of Japan and the Okhotsk Sea, after the first stage was held on July 22-27 in the Baltic Sea. It is the first time that the venue of the drills has extended to the Okhotsk Sea. Naval forces from both sides will, also for the first time, conduct joint submarine rescue exercises and joint anti-submarine exercises.

A salt lake in the city of Yuncheng, north China’s Shanxi Province, has proven that Mother Nature is an unmatched colorist. The waters of the salt lake seem to have been dyed in red on one side of the lake, while staying green on the other side. Fittingly enough, an avenue rising above the lake played the demarcation line, separating the two colors in such precision that prompted visitors to snap pictures of this scientifically-explained natural miracle. The distinct pinkish red color was caused by the proliferation of a certain type of algae Dunaliella salina, it has been reported. Covering an area of 120 square kilometers, the salt lake, which stretches 30 kilometers in length, is the largest in Shanxi Province and the world’s third largest sodium sulphate inland lake. Due to its high salinity, the lake has been dubbed as “China’s Dead Sea” and offers a safe destination for swimmers who can’t stay afloat. About the Soviet Navy: The Soviet Navy (Russian: Военно-морской флот СССР / ВМФ, literally "Military Maritime Fleet of the USSR") was the naval arm of the Soviet Armed Forces. Often referred to as the Red Fleet, the Soviet Navy was a large part of the Soviet Union's strategic plan in an incident with the United States, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), or another incident related to the Warsaw Pact. The influence of the Soviet Navy played a large role in the Soviet-American rivalry, as the majority of events centered around naval forces. The Soviet Navy was divided into four major fleets: the Northern, Pacific, Black Sea, and Baltic Fleets; under separate command was the Leningrad Naval Base (today Saint Petersburg). The Caspian Flotilla was a smaller force operating in the land-locked Caspian Sea. Main components of the Soviet Navy included Soviet Naval Aviation, Naval Infantry (Soviet Marines), and Coastal Artillery. Most of the Soviet Navy was reformed into the present Russian Navy (Russian: Военно-морской Флот Российской Федерации / ВМФ России, literally Military-Maritime Fleet of the Russian Federation) after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. About the Soviet Union: The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (Russian: Сою́з Сове́тских Социалисти́ческих Респу́блик) abbreviated to USSR (Russian: СССР) or shortened to the Soviet Union (Russian: Сове́тский Сою́з), was a Marxist–Leninist state on the Eurasian continent that existed between 1922 and 1991. A union of multiple subnational Soviet republics, its government and economy were highly centralized. The Soviet Union was a one-party state, governed by the Communist Party with Moscow as its capital. Rise of the Soviet Navy | History of the Russian Sea Power | 1900-1970 | Documentary in Color

The Sea of Azov is a sea in south-eastern Europe. To the south it is linked by the narrow (about 4 km or 2.5 mi) Strait of Kerch to the Black Sea, and it is sometimes regarded as a northern extension of the Black Sea. The sea is bounded in the north by mainland Ukraine, in the east by Russia, and in the west by the Crimean Peninsula. The Don and Kuban are the major rivers that flow into it. The Sea of Azov is the shallowest sea in the world, with the depth varying between 0.9 and 14 meters (2 ft 11 in and 45 ft 11 in). There is a constant outflow of water from the Sea of Azov to the Black Sea. The sea is largely affected by the inflow of numerous rivers, which bring sand, silt, and shells, which in turn form numerous bays, limans, and narrow spits. Because of these deposits, the sea bottom is relatively smooth and flat with the depth gradually increasing toward the middle. Also, due to the river inflow, water in the sea has low salinity and a high amount of biomass (such as green algae) that affects the water colour. Abundant plankton results in unusually high fish productivity. The sea shores and spits are low; they are rich in vegetation and bird colonies. The name likely derives from the settlement of and area around Azov, whose name comes from the Kipchak Turkish asak or azaq ("lowlands"). A Russian folk etymology, however, instead derives it from an eponymous Cuman prince named "Azum" or "Asuf", said to have been killed defending his town in 1067. A formerly common spelling of the name in English was the Sea of Azoff, which is closer to the Russian pronunciation. In antiquity, the sea was usually known as the Maeotis Swamp from the marshlands to its northeast.[ It remains unclear whether it was named for the nearby Maeotians or if that name was applied broadly to various peoples who happened to live beside it. Other names included Lake Maeotis or Maeotius (Mæotius or Mæotis Lacus); the Maeotium or Maeotic Sea (Mæotium or Mæoticum Æquor); the Cimmerian or Scythican Swamps (Cimmeriae or Scythicæ Paludes); and the Cimmerian or Bosporic Sea (Cimmericum or Bosporicum Mare). The Maeotians themselves were said by Pliny to call the sea Temarenda or Temerinda, meaning "Mother of Waters". The medieval Russians knew it as the Sea of Surozh after the adjacent city now known as Sudak. It was known in Ottoman Turkish as the Balük-Denis ("Fish Sea") from its high productivity.

Russia's Deadly Plan to Defend the Black Sea Against US, Nato, Ukrainian Naval Formations As the State Armament Program (S A P) 2011 to 2020 is coming to an end, Moscow has floated a new military program for the 2018 to 2027 period. Despite the sanctions, economic difficulties and the collapse of oil revenues, the Russian Navy has demonstrated that it can contribute to Russia’s international posture, as demonstrated during the Moscow’s Syrian campaign. Among the five Russian naval formations—namely the Northern, Baltic, Black Sea, and Pacific fleets as well the Caspian flotilla—the Black Sea fleet has undergone the most remarkable changes since 2010. Although modest by their number and their tonnage, its units are involved in operations in the Black Sea basin, the Mediterranean, and more sporadically, beyond the Suez Canal and the Gibraltar Straits, in the “World Ocean.” New platforms inducted in the course of the 2011 to 2020 S A P have provided the Black Sea fleet with enhanced multirole capabilities, in spite of difficulties experienced by the VPK—the Russian military-industrial complex—to meet the objectives outlined in the armament program. While the Black Sea Fleet is inexorably transitioning to a green-water force, it features a growing ability to carry out cruise-missile strikes way beyond Russia’s immediate neighborhood. Furthermore, it retains the ability to operate in remote maritime areas, such as the Levant. Revamping the Black Sea Fleet: Half a Success The modernization plan of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet outlined in the 2011 to 2020 S A P has not been fulfilled as originally thought. However, it has already produced tangible results, the first of which being the end of the continuing attrition of the operational capacities that affected the Russian navy during the 1990s and most of the 2000s. However, the Euro-Atlantic sanctions, on the one hand, and the rupture of the cooperation between the Russian VPK and Western and Ukrainian defense industries, on the other hand, have jeopardized the construction of some platforms, while delaying the completion of other new units. From the six initially planned frigates (Admiral Grigorovicth type), only three have been commissioned, whereas the three others have been left without their Ukrainian made turbines. Russia is waiting for Saturn—a Russian company based in Rybinsk—to come up with a national replacement solution, something that could be done in 2018. small missiles ships and anti-saboteur boats received until 2014 their German made engines, manufactured by MTU. Russian VPK have had to turn to China after the Ukrainian crisis to find a replacement solution after Germany ceased its cooperation with Russia. Chinese turbines are problematic, since the they do not seem powerful enough. Only the five first units have received their German turbines. Three of them have been assigned to the Caspian flotilla, which is regrouped together with the Black Sea Fleet in the Southern Military District. The two other missiles ships have been transferred to the Baltic Fleet. Russia’s objectives to enhance its submarine capabilities in the Black Sea have been met successfully; the six planned conventional submarines have all been inducted in the fleet. They carry Kalibar cruise missiles, and together with the new frigates and small missiles ships, they have carried out cruise missiles strikes in Syria from the Eastern Mediterranean. Dispatched in the Levant and in the Black Sea basin, these platforms can hit targets in most of Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia. Acknowledging the technical and financial difficulties raised by the sanctions and the cessation of industrial cooperation with foreign actors, Russia decided in 2014 to 2015 to launch two new construction programs for the Black Sea Fleet: small missiles ships and small patrol boats. Kalibar cruise missiles while being a very light surface platform at only 800 tons. Seven units have already been laid down, all slated for the Black Sea Fleet, with the lead ship scheduled to be commissioned in 2018. Meanwhile, the Black Sea Fleet’s only high sea vessel, the Soviet-era missiles cruiser Moskva , should undergo a reparation and deep-modernization cycle in the near future, possibly at Sevastopol shipyard. The S A P 2011 to 2020 does not include any refreshment, let alone expansion, of the blue water capacities of the Russian navy at all. subscribe : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9IFRHTtYJFjhI5fBrLIJiQ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DNA997

ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA — Russia has unveiled a new nuclear-powered icebreaker that is designed to keep the Northern Sea Route open all year round. Russia’s new nuclear-powered icebreaker, known as Leader, will exceed 200 meters in length and will be about 50 meters wide. It would be capable of plowing through 2-meter-thick ice at a speed of 29 kph and capable of cutting through ice up to 4.5 meters thick. It is expected that the new icebreaker would lead tankers carrying liquefied natural gas weighing up to 300,000 tonnes to pass through the Northern Sea Route in any season. Russia launched the world’s biggest icebreaker, the Arktika, in June. The icebreaker is powered by two nuclear reactors and can break through 4-meter-deep ice. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Crisis in the Caucasus (2008): As Russian tanks rolled into South Ossetia, the world's eyes turned East. In the West the message was clear: Georgia falls victim to Russian aggression. But is our media telling us the whole story? For downloads and more information visit: http://www.journeyman.tv/?lid=59119 Today Abkhazia, previously a province of Georgia, is celebrating independence after Russian military forced Georgia out of the province. The sky flashes with fireworks and Abkhazians dance in the streets. But few outside share Abkhazia's enthusiasm. 'Russia is now directly telling all its neighbours that it will be using force -- that it is trying to restore its lost empire', says Georgi Badrize, a Georgian diplomat. Few in the West would disagree. But in Abkhazia's Parliament, president Sergey Bagapsh is giving official thanks to Russia. This day, he tells us, marks the end of decades of Georgian abuse. 'People were starving', he says. 'We couldn't treat our kids, we were not allowed to import medications'. Many Azkhazians are angered by the pro-Georgian stance of Western media. 'Everybody thinks that the Georgians deserve independence and freedom and the right to be part of the international community', says humanitarian worker Liana Kvarchelia, 'and we are not'. Bagapsh claims that it is not only the media that is biased in Georgia's favour. He provides our reporter with an armed guard and permission to enter the border region between Abkhasia and Georgia, where he claims we will find evidence that the UN and NATO were complicit in Georgia's illegally stockpiling of weapons for an attck against Abkazia. Tension between Russia and Ukraine reached the highest point in years after the Russian military seized three Ukrainian ships and 23 servicemen. Here’s why all Americans should care. » Subscribe to NowThis: http://go.nowth.is/News_Subscribe Versha: This dramatic footage shows the moment that a Russian navy ship crashed into a Ukrainian tugboat moments before the Russian military seized three Ukrainian ships and 23 servicemen. It's the most significant escalation of conflict in the area since Russia took Crimea from Ukraine in 2014. Journalist Chris Miller works for Radio Free Europe and he's joining us from Kiev to explain what's happening in the region. Chris thank you so much for joining us. Can you just give us a rundown of what exactly happened on November 25th. Chris: Three Ukrainian navy vessels said that they had radioed their intent to pass through the curch strait which is this small strait that connects the Black Sea with the Inland Sea of Azov. And it was it was shortly after they radioed to their Russian counterparts to let them know that they were going to pass through or they intended to pass through the Kerch Strait which the Russians have more or less taken control of or over when they were intercepted by by Russian naval vessels. At least one Russian fighter jets and an attack helicopter. And what ensued was one of the Russian ships crashing into the Ukrainian navy tugboats and then and then open and open firing on the two other Ukrainian gunships and following following this clash that took hours. They know that the Russians that is detained 24 actually Ukrainian servicemen. The three Ukrainian navy vessels and took them to one of the ports in Russian controlled and annexed Crimea. You know this is like you said certainly a significant event and one of the most dangerous I would say since the start of the conflict and the annexation of Crimea in 2014. So what's the current status of those 24 Ukrainian sailors to the 24 Ukrainian sailors appeared in a Crimean court. At least 20 of the Ukranian sailors will remain in pretrial detention until April 26th. Versha: This kind of came as a surprise to a lot of people who haven't been following the conflict. But you’ve been reporting that tensions have been building in this area for a while since the summer especially. Can you talk to us about that? Chris: To those of us that have been that have been watching pretty closely this wasn't really a surprise. We saw the potential for a clash like this in the Sea of Azov or the Black Sea near the sea of Azov of for several months tensions really began ramping up in May upon the completion of the curch bridge. Bye bye bye Russia. So this bridge crosses over the current strait which is the only entry way to the inland Sea of Azov and just you kind of get a sense of the geography and and what it what it looks like there. You know the Black Sea is a very large body of water but sea of Azov is actually the shallowest sea in the world. It's the size of let's say a little bit actually smaller than Lake Huron in the U.S. and it is jointly controlled by Russia and Ukraine under a 2003 treaty that actually refers to these countries as brotherly nations. But they haven't been behaving so brotherly in recent months and in since May. Russia has detained more than 150 merchant vessels that have been entering the current strait and traversing that through the Sea of Azov on their way to the ports of Mariupol and Berdyansk. These are two Ukrainian ports that are of great strategic and economic importance importance to Ukraine. And you know because these ships have not been able to to get to the ports. It's really hurt the local regional economy there and it's become another lever for Russia to to apply pressure to Ukraine and in an attempt to to to undermine its democracy to try to keep it in its sphere of influence. But also Ukraine in turn has detained some Russian ships too. So the tensions have just been piling up and piling up for months now. #Russia #Ukraine #Europe #War #Putin #RussiaDesk Connect with NowThis » Like us on Facebook: http://go.nowth.is/News_Facebook » Tweet us on Twitter: http://go.nowth.is/News_Twitter » Follow us on Instagram: http://go.nowth.is/News_Instagram » Find us on Snapchat Discover: http://go.nowth.is/News_Snapchat NowThis is your premier news outlet providing you with all the videos you need to stay up to date on all the latest in trending news. We can drink it, swim in it, grow food with it, and just plain live because of it. However, certain bodies of water are shockingly mean to us. Interacting with some lakes and rivers can hurt us, make us sick, or even kill us. Hello guys and today we're talking about 10 Bodies Of Water That Want You Dead #10. Boiling Lake Dominica Whoever named this place was certainly no fan of subtlety: Boiling Lake is exactly what it sounds like. Discovered in 1870 by two Englishmen, temperatures taken five years later ranged anywhere from 82 to 91.5 °C. #9. Citarum River West Java, Indonesia Here we have a body of water that can destroy us, but only because we screwed it up. Citarum River might well be the most polluted, trash-filled bit of water on the planet. #8. Rio Tinto Spain Rio Tinto is among the most acidic bodies of water around, with a pH balance of 2, at best. This means the Rio Tinto is as strong as stomach acid and is more than powerful enough to kill any fish that dare swim in it. #7. Lake Kivu Of DRC And Rwanda Three hundred meters (1,000 ft) below the surface of Lake Kivu lies a ticking time bomb. Over 250 cubic kilometers (60 cubic miles) of carbon dioxide, along with around 65 cubic kilometers (15 cubic miles) of methane gas, lurks under this body of water, enough to provide electricity to several countries. #6. The Rivers Of Johannesburg South Africa Catching E. coli is no fun under normal circumstances; now imagine you were literally swimming in the stuff. #5. Blackwater River Virginia, USA Too much water can be a bad thing, even if the water can't kill you otherwise. #4. Tualatin River Oregon, USA Oregon's Tualatin River is not the place to be if you want to take your dogs for a swim; close to a dozen pups die there every year from exposure to toxic blue-green algae. #3. Lake Karachay Russia Like a supermodel with a bomb strapped underneath her bodice, Russia's Lake Karachay is pristine, gorgeous, and incredibly deadly. It is, without question, the most radioactive body of water on the planet. #2. Belle Fourche River And South Dakota, USA Belle Fourche isn't poisonous, boiling, or radioactive. However, it is turbulent and wild, at least in one particular area. #1. Potomac River Maryland–West Virginia Border, USA Though the only thing most people know about the Potomac is that Washington, DC is situated on it, the legendary river can also be associated with something else: horrible deaths. Thank you for watching!!! Does anyone want to come over and swim with me? Write in comments what do you think of these bodies of water. Join our channel for more interesting videos!

The Veliky Novgorod submarine was officially launched at the Admiralty Shipyard in Saint Petersburg, Friday, during a ceremony one day ahead of the 110th anniversary of Russia's submarine fleet. The vessel is a part of the Russian Navy and will be on service in the Black Sea Fleet by the end of 2016. The Veliky Novgorod was constructed by one of the main Russian centres of submarine design - Rubin Central Design Bureau in Saint Petersburg and it is one of the six submarines of the so-called Project 636.3 or Varshavyanka class. The ceasefire is completely ignored. Correction: In a previous version, the Russian Empire at 2:31 did not include Finland and northern Kazakhstan and at 2:34 the map mistakenly depicted the Warsaw Pact members, not the Soviet Union. At 2:03 the Minsk II agreement refers to the separatist enclaves as "certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine" not the DPR and LPR. Today, there are 100,000 fighters stationed in the country, making it one of the most heavily militarized regions in the world. In Ukraine's east, Ukrainian forces are engaged in a struggle with Russian-backed separatists. A ceasefire was called in 2015, with a security zone established that was meant to foster peace. However, today the security zone remains one of the most violent places in the Ukraine. With over 10,000 deaths to date, and over 1.5 million civilians displaced, the cost of ignoring the ceasefire continues to mount by the day. And both sides are still building up their forces. To truly understand the international conflicts and trends shaping our world you need a big-picture view. Charlotte, a green sea turtle was not able to dive or swim properly as of a result of an injury she suffered at sea after being struck by a boat. There was damage to her intestinal tract that caused gas to build-up in her hind-quarters making it difficult to swim properly and she was deemed non-releasable. Custom neoprene pouches were added to the rear of her shell which strengthened her hind-quarters and provide balance to help her swim. As you can see, her swimming has improved tremendously. Charlotte has become an ambassador for her species and even has her own children’s book available at the gift shop!
