Goya - Harvester Of Bongloads (2017) (New Full Album)

40:30
Arizona doom trio, Goya, return with their third full length, and none to sublte, "Harvester of Bongloads". “Harvester…” continues to plumb the depths of their disgust for all life on this planet, except perhaps for plant life, of which they are shameless proponents. It is start to finish, packed with massive fuzzed out riffs, deep despair and copious nods to the sweat leaf that Goya pay homage to throughout the entire album. The entirety of side A is made up of "Omen", an epic twenty minute, three part epistle on the end of days. Part 1, "Strange Geometry", opens up to slow tribal drums and psychedelic warbling, courtesy of their Boss Dr. Sample SP-303, before thick bluesy riffing slowly builds to a fuzzy lament on pending oblivion. Part 2, "Fade Away", is mostly a jam session, acting as a bridge between the first and third sections, slowing down enough to gently croon the title several times before ripping into Part 3, "Life Disintegrates". The third and final act of "Omen" continues the downward spiral of heavy sludge doom in the finest tradition of Electric Wizard and Sleep, epic smoked out doom for the pending apocalypse. Side B dishes up twenty more minutes of meaty riffs in three more tracks, which sort of act like another massive three part opus, but this time with breaks between. First up is "Germination", just a couple minutes of slow heavy doom that sets the tone and acts as an intro for the next track, "Misanthropy on High". “Misanthropy…” is monolithic slow and enormously heavy. Lyrically, the title speaks for itself, with each verse making its escape from the waste of reality into dope fuelled release, repeatedly echoing the double edged sentiment “waste away". The final track, "Disease", sees Goya wading back into more uptempo Sabbath-esque doom. After two epic jams full of deep gloom, it's a welcome release when they open up the jam and rock out a bit. While lyrically it's still dwelling on oblivion, “Disease” is full of swagger, energy and a couple really killer solos. It's a hook laden finish to a dank and heavy trip of an album. Small wonder in the midst of our current political nightmare that Goya would drop a jewel heralding the end, before escaping in the smoky haze of their own retreat. Jeff Owens and company have always sniffed around the sludge fire hydrant, albeit cautiously. For “Harvester”, any apprehension is long gone, as the band thrusts forward and mark their territory with menacing abandon. Every second of this four song, forty-minute avalanche of sound is a testament to doomy, crawling, distorted, monolithic and awe-inspiring heaviness at its most extreme. Some may be a bit surprised though too, as Owen’s guitar leads and melody, coupled with soulful, agonized vocals actually make this hit even harder blasting the norms of the genre. “Harvester Of Bongloads” is a relentless listen meant to touch the listener’s most primordial inclinations. Goya’s best to date and essential to anyone’s collection that likes it HEAVY. Electric Abyss by Goldie

07:55
Electric Abyss by Goldie www.bodyofsongs.com A collection of 10 songs by some of the UK's most talented artists, inspired by the body's organs. Hidden from view, suctioned together in dark flesh, the organs are the core of our physical functioning, and our emotional and feeling world. Each artist explores an organ with the help of experts, to find out how it works and unlock its mysteries and myths. Along the way they ask profound questions about their own lives; about illness and disease, and age and suffering. Each artist's journey to the inside begins with an introduction to the organs from Professor Hugh Montgomery, Director of the UCL Institute for Human Health and Performance at University College London. From this, they are able to choose the one that most resonates with them. Incredible artists and inspiring scientists and medics of all kinds come together to make up Body Of Songs. More artists will be revealed throughout 2014, with the full collection available in 2015.

Squidlord - Squidlord (2014) (Full Album)

43:07
A giant squid emerges from the sea! It’s wriggling it’s monstrous tentacles towards you. Do you: A. Grab your nearest boat and machete, and sail towards the squid. B. Run away, cursing cephalopods everywhere. C. Fall down to your knees and worship the squid. It makes about as much sense as those other religions anyway. D. I don’t believe in giant squid. Squidlord, a group of eccentric bastards from North Carolina, chose option C, and then released a whole fucking album about it. By chance, it turns out that album is really quite good. Asheville's Squidlord hardly sound like a band delivering their first album. The eleven instrumental tracks on their self-titled debut may as well be connected as one. Transcending labels like psychedelic, stoner, doom, and sludge is hardly the album's greatest achievement, but it's a hell of a place to start. You're gonna love this. Using no vocals whatsoever, the band still weaves quite a tale. The riff spikes and shifting tempos chronicle a steady ascent, seemingly insurmountable challenges, climactic passages, and a staggering denouement. Squidlord's narrative buzzes in cyclical fashion, keeping listeners locked in for the better part of a forty-four minute journey at sea. Discovery's smooth introduction buoys and swells toward an angry stoner sea of epic crashes, while The Whiskey Barrel spills cool breaths and cascading drums. A colossal tapestry of hanging guitars crafts a layered sound that's as gorgeously turbulent as it is ever-progressing. Things get sticky with the sludge of Washed Up, kicking southern licks and lifting tempos into a trot. And doom? Well, Thrown In Jail (Locked Up) is a slow-motion, one-eyed stagger swaying and burning with cosmic strings. Fate is tempted, battles are lost, and the pain of truth is realized. A meaty southern approach emerges on the confident Vision of the Phoenix and the slow, bass-driven treads of Calling Abraxas. Tide's End warbles and weaves with awesome movement, and Soosah's Tavern chugs, busts bottles, and may be the most fun you'll have all day. Pull after pull, this libation lingers on the tongue. Squidlord take moments to look back and assess the damage, but more important are their puffed-chest, fist-swinging returns to flattening. Cover to cover, this instrumental trip meets challenges, finds its knees, and emerges for an even more impressive push. Rock-hard stutters somehow complement passages of somber woe. This album gathers moss as it gains momentum. Not many can boast such improbable achievements. It’s a heavy rock feeding-frenzy, replete with bluesy-ass guitar, fuzzy stoner riffs and bass lines that occasionally threaten to melt speakers. Squidlord take all this and roll with it throughout the album. The average track length is quite short, which keeps the pace high and frenetic. It’s also all instrumental, and plays to the strengths of the band members. Squidlord’s mix of heavy rock elements keep the album exciting and fast, without the need for a vocalist. Album reminds me of my Staffordshire Bull Terrier, meaty, muscular and with a ferocious bite. Riff heavy instrumental stoner doom. The power of the riff is certainly strong with Squidlord. These guys do it right, from some tasty blues licks to some straight up fucking doom. EAT THE SQUID, DRINK THE INK!!! Every track on this album is a definitive representation of what the band is all about. They love heavy rock, and they love squid. That’s really all there is to it. Squidlord, a heavy rock instrumental concept album by Squidlord, is about a dude called SQUIDLORD who worships a squid lord and fights monsters. Fucking buy it already. 1. Discovery - 0:00 2. Stonerror - Stonerror (2017) (New Full Album)

34:07
Stonerror pushed all the right buttons with the release of their debut EP "Rattlesnake Moan". The band, Jarosław Daniel - guitar , Jacek Malczewski - bass, Łukasz Mazur - vocals and Maciej Ołownia - drums, have now delivered on the potential shown on that EP with the release of their first full length album "Stonerror". Those raw edges found on "Rattlesnake Moan" have on "Stonerror" been sanded down a touch but have been done so without compromising any of the edgy grittiness that made that EP such joyous and essential listen for those fans of the stoner/desert persuasion. The Kyuss/QOTSA - like grooves, that were an integral part of the bands sound on the debut EP, are still there in abundance but are tempered with elements of psych, blues, alt/grunge and old school hard rock textures. combining to give the album a far more interesting and diverse feel. Songs like "Red Tank", "Misbegotten" and "The Wolf" continue the bands tradition of jamming dusty desert grooves coated in clean melodic vocals over hard driven rhythms but it is when the band step outside of the restraints of their desert/stoner roots that things start to get really interesting. On "Los Hermanos" the band experiment with elements of mood and atmosphere utilizing a slow burning Colour Haze-esque groove over which hushed ,almost whispered, vocals are delivered, the song undulating between quiet passages of eerie otherworldliness and heavy stoner groove before finally finishing on a lone guitar motif and fading to silence. Not content with this the band even throw a little folky coloring into the mix with the delightfully sublime and eclectic "The Ride" pouring Wishbone Ash -like vocal melodies over a mix of acoustic and electric grooviness. The psych drenched final track "Blues for the Red Sea" sees Stonerror exploring their lysergic side, the bands initial stoner/desert groove, populated with driving rhythms and reverb soaked vocals, suddenly taking off into full on instrumental mode with swirling Hawkwind-esque keyboard effects swooping back and forth over a backdrop of tumultuous drumming, boneshaking bass and acid tainted guitar colouring before finishing on a wave of glorious swirling, swooping noise. "Rattlesnake Moan" was an EP made by a band trying to find their feet in a scene populated by giants, "Stonerror" sees that band standing on those feet and now staring those giants square in the eye. Merlin - The Wizard (2018) (New Full Album)

39:46
The Wizard is the new full length album from Kansas City's Merlin. "The Wizard" is a concept album but don't let that scare you as each and every track works both thematically and individually, having said that for full listening enjoyment and to fully embrace the conceptual flow of the album it is best listened to as a whole and in recorded order. Merlin are a band that confuse and delight in equal measure but are also a band capable of moments of spine chilling brilliance and there are many of those moments to be found among the seven songs that make up "The Wizard" . The bands line up has gone through a few changes since the bands previous album "Electric Children" with Chase Thayer replacing Joey Hamm on bass and Stu Kersting joining on saxophone and guitar, the two new recruits combining with original members Knorr (vocals/omnichord), Carter Lewis (guitar/synth) and Caleb Wyels (drums) to create a fuller more expansive sound. The introduction of Kersting and specifically his sax contributions is a game changer and brings a whole new perspective to Merlin's overall sound , not as you might expect in a jazz orientated context but in a more groove orientated way as on opener "Abyss" where the sax combines with Lewis' guitar to both carry and accentuate the songs main refrain and on "Sage's Crystal Staff" where he brings an extra level of lysergic texturing to the proceedings. Vocalist Knorr is on fine form throughout mixing up his vocals between strong clean melodies and sneered half sang, half spoken narrative, telling his stories of sorcery and dark dealings like some crazed shaman at a tribal gathering, his stories superbly backed up by Thayer and Wyels, the bassist and drummer effortlessly shifting between grooves to accommodate every little nuance of each songs dynamic. The album finishes its diverse and lysergic journey with "The Wizard Suite" an epic tome spanning eleven plus minutes that sees Lewis and Kersting trading off ambient guitar licks and arpeggios over a backdrop of tinkling percussion and liquid bass that slowly grows in intensity until erupting into a fuzz drenched stoner-ish groove with Lewis laying down crunching chords supported by Kersting's sax around which Knorr chants mantra-ish vocals. The song slowly builds in tempo with Lewis' guitar and Kersting's sax going head to head over Thayer and Wyels insistent ever increasing rhythmic grooves before then coming to an abrupt and quite unexpected full stop. Brilliantly written and arranged with a sound and groove unlike anything they have done before Merlin's "The Wizard" is a genuine mini-masterpiece Review by Frazer Jones http://stonerking1.blogspot.com/2018/01/merlin-wizard-review.html 1. The Hazytones - II: Monarchs of Oblivion (2018) (New Full Album)

38:52
The Hazytones - II: Monarchs of Oblivion (New Full Album) Canadian garage doom band The Hazytones release their new LP, Monarchs of Oblivion, via Ripple Music. The Montreal-based group, whose haunting, hooky sound has been called “Swedish-style stomp”, delivers dark psych-metal, overflowing with stark mood and tempo changes, and haunting, double-tracked vocals that glide over the sinister songs. Monarchs of Oblivion is the follow-up to The Hazytones’ 2017 self-titled debut, hailed as “totally new yet oddly recognizable.” Formed in 2015, The Hazytones’ shadowy sound is the epitome of a “hazy tone”. The band’s black acid-drenched shock rock drips with harmonies that harken back to the trippiest of late 60’s psych and its chained-to-the brain hooks bleed with a palpable, eerie energy that surges and swings in equal measure. Live is where the band really finds its swagger, flinging themselves around the stage and converting new disciples with each and every performance. With full European and North American tours already under their belts, The Hazytones are a developing band on the rise, set to deliver a sweeping salvo with the release of their substantial sophomore LP. 1. Hypnotic Nausea - Hypnosis (2015) (Full Album)

41:11
Hypnotic Nausea is a post stoner band from Greece (Agrinion) with electronic and ambient elements in their sound. They formed on August 2013 and on May 2015 they recorded live their debut album (Hypnosis) in an effort to capture their analog feel. Their main concern is to create soundscapes which will function as a highlight in the general idea of conceptual art. Stunning mix of the heavy and the fragile. Mostly instrumental concept album that leans towards the progressive end of the rock spectrum but is rooted in psych and metal. Words by FDJ 1. Age Regression - 0:00 2. Revival Experience - 4:11 3. Buddha Sentenza - Semaphora (2016) (Full Album)

47:46
The German act known as Buddha Sentenza have been bringing their brand of psychedelic/stoner/jam/space rock to music audiences since 2008, and here they have their third release for World in Sound, titled Semaphora. Featuring six lengthy instrumental tracks, Semaphora takes the listener through many twists and turns, highlighted by a dual guitar attack, swirling keyboards, violin, and intricate percussion. Opener "Jet" is a psychedelic, space rock affair, chock full of airey keys and some inventive guitar playing, while "Greek Ancestry" features some playful musical passages but also some heavier riffing, the band conjuring up some jazz flavors to go along with their prog stew. There's a bluesier element to "Kreen" thanks to some tasty guitar work and organ, while the muscular "Laika" goes into heavier, almost Deep Purple/Uriah Heep territory for a bit before some lumbering stoner riffs come into play. The slightly meditative "Blood Rust" sees the guitars drift in desert rock fashion before some Hawkwind styled synths come bubbling into the mix, and the near 11-minute finale "The End is Coming...We'll Take it From Here" is easily the albums most dramatic track, with heavy riffs and searing lead guitar battling spacey keys and rumbling rhythms for a full on psychedelic stoner rock experience. Buddha Sentenza offers us some 70's inspired instrumental heavy Prog with great organ, loads of guitars, bass and heavy drumming. Something like Uriah Heep, Deep Purple with a hint of Black Sabbath and early Pink Floyd. Very well performed, this half dozen musical pieces, ranging from 5 to 11 minutes, easily kept me interested for the whole album. Pretty cool stuff overall, this latest from Buddha Sentenza is a tasty little treat for anyone into experimental instrumental rock music. Check it out. Formed in Monterrey, Mexico by siblings Miguel & Gina Ríos. Spacegoat play a blend of classic rock with influences spanning from early Sabbath to Janis Joplin. Superstition is their debut full length album. An absolutely phenomenal album, and well worth the wait. The 70s psychedelic rock influence is even stronger here than on their debut EP, and they play it to perfection. Add to that the powerful, clear vocals of Gina Ríos and you have a gem. Telekinetic Yeti - Abominable (2017) (New Full Album)

41:31
Occasionally, a recording reaches out of the speakers and grabs you — shakes you — doesn’t invite but demands that you trip with it along whatever imagined pathways it produces. Abominable, the first full-length release from Dubuque’s Telekinetic Yeti (out on Sump Pump Records March 17) may just be the first such album of 2017. It is both impossible to believe that Telekinetic Yeti is a two-piece, and impossible to believe that it could be anything but. The unity and clarity of vision that Alex Baumann and Anthony Dreyer have developed together in such a short time is intimate and grounded—but the breadth of sound that the duo achieves belies that intimacy, even while it relies on it. This record is far greater than the sum of its parts; the production on Abominable (recorded at Flat Black Studios and mixed by the untouchable Luke Tweedy) is full and delicious. Driving and deliberate, Abominable hearkens back to classic stoner metal, but with intricacies of sound that invite even space rock comparisons. Even on more straightforward tunes, like “Stoned and Feathered”, there are twists and tricks that tease a deeper musical throughline. The eight-plus minute instrumental, “Colossus” is where the album really finds its place. Dreyer’s drumming on this track is phenomenal. It would be trite to call this “epic,” but the storytelling (on all of the instrumental tracks, but especially here) is so damn solid that you’ll feel like you just read some ancient poetry. The journey “Colossus” outlines is complete enough that, if you’re listening digitally, instead of on record, then track five, “Lightbearer” can catch you off guard. Abominable is a record to get lost in. It’s the musical equivalent of jumping in a van with three or four of your closest friends and driving until you have no idea where you are anymore. From the rev up into the opening title track to listening to the gravel fall off the edge of the mountain as you skid to a stop at the end of “Himalayan Hymn,” this is a trip you don’t want to miss. Frozen Planet....1969 - Electric Smokehouse (2017) (New Full Album)

40:46
Sometimes, when I hear a guitar solo, I just want to make funny faces and play along on my awesome air guitar. You know, just freak the fuck out. If you and I share this penchant for weirdness, then take my word and check out Frozen Planet….1969. This power-jam-trio calls Australia their home but a listen to the music has me thinking that these dudes have some connection to aliens and what not. Whatever it is, these Aussies know something about the outer reaches of the solar system that we don’t, and they’re here to educate us. As the story goes, this album is entirely improvised. There was no pre-determined mission, no colossal ideas about when the crescendo would hit, nor was there any thought put into the length of the songs. The only thought that was put into this music was in the moment, and you know what, that moment was pretty sweet. The chemistry between the players – Paul Attard on guitar, Lachlan Paine on bass and Frank Attard on drums – can be heard in each one of these cuts. In fact, it’s not only heard, its felt, and that’s what makes this record sound so great. The music is alive, it moves, it gels, and best of all, it’s both heavy and psychedelic. Knowing that these three guys from down under just shook these tunes from their sleeve has me thinking that they’re pretty talented individuals with a keen sense of what being a band is all about. Frozen Planet….1969 is fully instrumental, completely improvised and full on intergalactic. Seriously, like nothing I have ever experienced before outside of a certain psychotropic. Just an insane carnival ride through multiple dimensions that you don't want to end or you do want it to end or your not sure if it is ever going to end and you are going to be stuck like this forever. One way or the other your life will never be what it was when it's done. Trippy Wicked & the Cosmic Children of the Knight - Movin On (2009) (Full Album)

52:36
A rolling, thundering mass of infectious riffs, distorted gut-busting bass, tripped out vocals, relentless beats and hairy sweaty faces twisted with grins and gurns. Trippy Wicked & the Cosmic Children of the Knight cut a groove deeper than the ocean abyss. Playing a mix of stoner rock, doom, sludge and blues, Trippy Wicked formed in early 2006 by Chris West, Pete Holland and Paul Fryer in St Albans. Movin On is their debut full length album released in 2009. The album captures everything that the band has ever stood for in their music with a 10 track, 52 minute epic musical journey of songs about living the good life, fire, growing beards, girls, aliens, loneliness, pirates, love and so much more. Movin On is full of the sexiest, sleaziest stoner, doom, blues, whatever-the-hell-you-wanna-call-it riffs you ever heard and was recorded in June 2009 under the warm Dorset sunshine at Chuckalumba studios. It’s simply impossible to pin Trippy Wicked down to one specific genre, but the band’s sound can perhaps best be described as a combination of stoner rock and doom, enhanced by ever-present elements of blues. Movin’ On is an accurate representation of all of these factors, as is the colossal title track which opens the album. Consisting of steadily-paced retro blues riffs moulded in abrasive, High on Fire-esque stoner metal fashion, before erupting into an impressive display of frenetic pace and psychedelic guitar solos, this really is an excellent track which instantly sets a remarkably high standard for the remainder of the album. One of the greatest strengths of Movin’ On as an album is the remarkably “old-school” nature of each song. A vibe reminiscent of what you would perhaps expect from the 1960s is evident for the duration of the album, which may seem unusual given the prominence of stoner metal. Rather than sounding dated, however, this is actually a breath of fresh air, as it is too rare an occurrence in the rock music of today. Clothes On My Floor, for instance, may well have been inspired by the likes of The Kinks and The Who, while the magnificent Echoes, one of the album’s highlights, combines the psychedelic style of Pink Floyd with the tranquil yet emotive sounds of today’s finest post-rock bands, whilst also maintaining the aforementioned blues dimension that forms an integral characteristic of Trippy Wicked’s unique sound. Another area in which Trippy Wicked triumph in harking back to the musical approaches of previous generations is the vocals. Frontman Pete Holland has a fantastic voice which brings the tone of Ozzy Osbourne and the melodic range of Chris Cornell together, and his vocal ability is a key aspect of the record’s overall identity. This is no more apparent than on the album’s final two tracks, The Water and Because of You, and the vocalist’s impressive range is plain for all to hear on the latter in particular. This is also the case on the brilliant Not What You Know, a euphoric blend of seismic doom riffs, blistering speed and impassioned, blues-infused singing straight out of the top drawer. Anyone who has the good fortune to listen to Movin’ On will gauge within an instant that the members of Trippy Wicked & the Cosmic Children of the Knight are all very talented individuals, with songwriting abilities akin to those of many of their peers. However, the band deserve an enormous amount of credit with what they have achieved with this record for other reasons. On paper, to amalgamate stoner/doom metal with blues would seemingly lead to disaster, yet in this instance the unlikely combination works a treat. Furthermore, Trippy Wicked have managed to utilize the spirit and general vibe of a bygone era in such a way that it sounds as relevant as anything you are likely to hear in 2010. This is the main reason why Trippy Wicked & the Cosmic Children of the Knight deserve your immediate attention, and there is no better place to start than this astonishing piece of work. Deaf Radio - Alarm (2017) (New Full Album)

40:31
Straight from Athens, Deaf Radio just lends a missile on the desert rock scene. ‘Alarm‘, their first album, melts perfectly a raw rock music, with some desert rock influences, some smooth moments and a lot of catchy riffs/rhythms. It results in one of the most enjoyable albums of this new year. Released in early January, Dimitris Sakellariou (guitar/vocals), Panos Gklinos (guitar/vocals), Antonis Mantakas (bass/backing vocals), George Diathesopoulos (drums/backing vocals) put real energy in this record, you can feel it. Two years after the publication of a single, they’re back, with a 9-tracks record of impressive rock sounds. Opening with a catchy riff, ‘Aggravation‘ closes the gates between you and the outdoor world. Letting us dive into their post-rock world, Deaf Radio sink us slowly in an ocean of melodic rhythms, led by awesome vocals. ‘Backseats‘ and ‘Vultures & Killers‘ will drive you on a desert highway, surrounded by cactus, hyena, and coyotes. Pushed by some skilled guitar works and fuzzed bass lines, the sound blasts your head back. I absolutely dig the drum rhythm too, giving a fantastic groove to the whole. ‘Anytime‘ is a more relaxed track, swinging between some nifty vocals and some sweet bass/drums patterns. ‘Flowerhead‘ follow this example, sounding heavier than the other ones. The percussions hit hard, as the guitars send fuzzed out vibes in the air. The lyrics are really catchy and the vocals, sometimes powerful and sometimes high-pitched leave a sensational feeling. Totally mind-killer, ‘Revolving Doors‘ and ‘Trapped‘ show us a different side of the band. And it’s a great thing ! All the influences they put in their sound give a fresh and new vibe. It’s pretty difficult, nowadays, to sound original and to release something that people didn’t already hear. But they totally dig it, because of a great songwriting in the tracks and by letting us the opportunity to listen to some new grooves and riffs. ‘Oceanic Feeling‘ and ‘…And We Just Pressed the Alarm Button‘ ends up this awesome road trip. They go deeper, playing with their sound and create an outstanding atmosphere. The last track is fantastic, mixing the fuzzed riffs of the first tracks and the atmosphere of the lasts, bringing here a beautiful way to close their record. ‘Alarm’ from Deaf Radio is a truly great experience, that I recommend. As a trip you want to never end, a drive you want to never stop or a memory you want to revive again and again, this record will leave an unforgettable mark in your brain. Camel Driver/Moewn - Rites Of Passage/Aestus Split (2016) (Full Album)

45:21
If you’ve been yearning for some top of the line instrumental rock with boatloads of psychedelic, stoner rock and post rock themes, than prepare to be blown away by this split release. If you’re a fan of the stoner rock scene, you may already know what lies within the walls of Pink Tank Records label. Two of their many promising artists, Camel Driver and Moewn, both from Germany, have just joined forces for this release. This album is basically divided into two albums; the first is Rites of Passage from Camel Driver, the other is Aestus by Moewn, each containing three songs. 'Rites Of Passage' begins with 'Separation', a ostensibly stoner rock track but with definite jazz structures found within. The guitars are nice 'n fuzzy and the riffs huge..exactly what I loved in the debut album. 'Interphase' shows why Camel Driver are a step above most 'stoner' groups - they are not afraid to experiment with structures and styles. This track has an almost proggy post rock structure and is far more complex than the huge, fuzzy riffs that would normally be associated with the genre - it rises and falls and the guitar is simply wonderful. 'Integration' is the last track on the Camel Driver side and the longest at over nine minutes. This has a more psychedelic jazz leaning with some more fantastic guitar work and really intelligent song crafting. This may only be 3 tracks in length but it is a fine showcase for what Camel Driver can do.....excellent stuff indeed. The only other band, for me, that show the same quality experimental approach to the genre is Causa Sui....and that is high praise! Moewn are a very maritime focused band (their name means seagull in German) and their particular brand of driving, experimental post-rock has been christened 'Oceanic' rock. 'Aestrus' opens with 'Nordpol' and is a surging post-rock giant of a track....the drums crash and the guitars are loud and heavy.....put me in mind of some of the best Red Sparrowes tracks. 'Kaventsmann' opens with some tribalistic drums before waves of guitar hit, and hit hard. It has some of the standard post rock features....the quiet, loud, quiet structure, but that is where all similarities end. This has a much more emotive quality than many others in the genre, it can evoke emotions and feelings unlike so many other rock acts. 'Bordbrant' closes the Moewn side of the LP. Starting slowly with a simple bassline and chiming guitars, it soon picks up pace and becomes another barnstormer.....rising and falling like the waves in the band's precious oceans. Both sides of this split are excellent...different in approach but both showing an imaginative and intelligent approach to music making. Kudos to Pink Tank for having the nous and the courage to pair two bands in different 'genres' on a split....they obviously saw past tags and categories to realise that it's quality that ultimately counts...and this is a top quality record. Pick up a bottle of Jack Daniels’s Winter Jack Tennessee Cider. Served warm, this tasty beverage will only heighten your listening experience of this split album. The Noise Figures - Aphelion (2015) (Full Album)

39:18
Y’know, Greece is responsible for some damn good music lately. It could simply be down to Inner Ear Records filtering out all the bad stuff in order to promote the good stuff but there has been some really good music coming out of that area of the planet in recent years. The Cave Children, Stella, Film all appear on the record label and now there’s one more addition – The Noise Figures. Having caused a storm with their debut album, the hard rock duo have kinda taken a little time off to chill before heading back into the studio to create a strong follow up. Fortunately Aphelion is here, and it is strong. A two-piece making serious noise isn’t so rare these days but the power to keep you gripped for the full length of an album is really something of a treat. Reminiscent of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s bruised blues and Death From Above 1979’s hardin-your-guts riffs, Aphelion takes the listener on a multi-paced journey through a desert of brooding intensity, with raw fuzzed-out energy and tender desperation leaving you bloodied and beaten but feeling all the better for it. If you like your music to be heavy with a whole load of distorted attitude then Aphelion is something you should check out. Shoot the Moon kicks things off with a thick, fuzzy riff flooding the airwaves against a pummelling drum beat and vocals that drag their way through it all. Psychedelic vibes hit hard as the instrumental washes over your ear drums to create a hazy episode that seemingly plays on loop in your mind – it’s an awesome feeling. The Noise Figures end this trip by cranking up the tempo just a tad to deliver a closing section that hits harder than Hurricane Patricia (topical) and causes you to get harder. A great start to the record. Variety does let loose on Aphelion which allows The Noise Figures to focus their heavy sound down some different avenues. In The Boneyard delivers another hard hitting performance whereas Run has a real Chuck Berry, 50’s Rock N Roll tempo to it which comes as a welcome surprise. The title track takes us back to the psychedelic journey experienced previously and throws some extra spotlight to the bass this time round, and Holy One sounds like something The Hives could have delivered in their heyday. Great track. All this variation does mix up momentum but when you’ve got songs as good as these momentum is the least of our worries when you’ve got everybody dancing. Aphelion is an exceptional collection of formidable tracks that evoke epic imagery throughout with The Noise Figures’ attention to detail being the catalyst. All music was recorded to tape in the short space of an intense five days and, instead of settling for universal tuning, the band experimented at 432Hz. A fairly uncommon method (aka Pythagorean tuning) giving the album an undeniably fresh edge. The results of their extensive touring makes Aphelion feel like the ultimate desert road trip soundtrack. Bampari’s guitar riffs evoke images of dust storms and bewitching mirages. Paired with Nikas’ menacing vocals, the tracks bounce between black magic and divine intervention. The two-piece makes plenty of noise, filling in every space on the LP’s 10 tracks with aching distortion and slowcore rhythms. Cosmic Fall - First Fall (2016) (Full Album)

46:17
Cosmic Fall from Germany impress with their debut release First Fall. The combination of smooth flowing instrumental psyche rock and trippy blues makes this one a must have. If you love the psychedelic exploration of bands like Earthless, the bluesy jamming side of Clutch and the raw feel of Samsara, there's no doubt you’ll gravitate to this album. The album kicks off with the epic “Son of a Gun”. Coming in at whopping 15:21 minutes, this one will flow effortlessly through your speakers, its one hell of trippy stoner jam. We love the opening to “Road to Ufa,” it seems to pay homage to the great Stevie Wonder song “Superstition”. The third cut, “I Must Obey” introduces some vocals which mixes thing up a bit. Sit back and let your mind drift away with 16 minute plus “Jam I”. This track has it all; raw psychedelic jamming, spacious exploration and dirty blues riffs. It’s impossible to describe this one in words, just crank it to 11. The production is psychedelic and raw and not over polished. Each instrument is very well played. Grab yourself some Brooklyn Lager Sorachi Ace. This 7.2 ABV lager is built around the unique flavors of the Japanese Sorachi Ace hop. Its zesty lemongrass aroma brings forth terrific flavors that will compliment this album. With so much heavy psyche instrumental bands out there, it must be difficult to stand out. We love these types of artists who bring something fresh to their genres. Cosmic Fall are tremendous musicians as they bring something new to the table. Fans of psychedelic instrumental music will love this album. Already looking forward to the Second Fall. Review from Rotation 11 http://rotation11.com/albums/Cosmic-Fall/First-Fall/ 1. Holy Monitor - Holy Monitor (2017) (New Full Album)

37:21
Stunning Athens based experimental psych/kraut rock collective ‘Holy Monitor’ have announced their debut self-titled full length release filled to the brim with luscious soundscapes that skip through a multiple of different sonic disciplines with blistering aplomb. ‘Holy Monitor’ have returned with a ten track monolith that will literally blow your mind. Released via ‘Primitive Music Records’ in collaboration with ‘Blackspin Records’. Swirling into the ether on a repetitious instrumental drone we jump off into the unknown just as ‘Halcyon’ powers up it’s atmospheric core and washes us in subtle fret noises, serine lead lines and reverberating swells of sonic delight. ‘Nemesis’ arrives just as we’re getting comfortable and we’re soon dragged with it as it’s motorik percussive swagger spews forth cascading organ lines, throbbing bass frequencies and the delicious whip of lead guitars. Otherworldly vocalisations arrive, riding a wave of screaming guitars and malicious synth swells as the sonic tension builds into a raging tremulous beast. Up next, ‘Holy Monitor’ unleash a full on psych behemoth in the form of the albums lead track, the mind altering, mescaline charged ‘Bed Of The Earth’. Hypnotic lead guitars gently caress whirring organ swells as steadying drums and a humming baselines carry another impressive vocal performance. ‘Bed Of The Earth’ meanders deftly through sonic peaks and troughs until eventually exploding into a mesmerizing lead break filled with electronic trickery, explosive percussion and the constant swirl of the organ all collectively awash with swathes of reverb. It’s haunting vocals swirl and soar, peppered at times by delectable backing lines that seem to morph into one big throbbing behemoth tumbling gracefully through the ether like some new gravitational sonic phenomenon. ‘The Vine’ undulates and spirals as it floats into earshot circumnavigating itself in a peaceful haze of chandiramani percussion & shimmering tambourines before the hypnotic tendrils of it’s utterly addictive guitar progressions take over, whirring above melodious baselines, the cascading plink of brilliantly constructed organ progressions and hauntingly good vocalisations. Before we can float away in a melancholic bliss however, the opening bars of ‘Golden Light’ grace our ears and we’re soon awash with it’s eastern esoteric influences, menacing organ swells and stunning reverberations that loop and arc throughout, painting sonic pictures and instilling a blast of shimmering atmosphere. Electronic theatric’s announce the arrival of ‘Bend The Tree’s’ and it gracefully glides on a droning synth progression and a highly addictive guitar line. This track bathes in swathes of stunning reverb as its hushed vocalisations take centre stage continuously urging the instrumentation to keep up with the pace. ‘Icarus’ builds rapidly, trapped in a turbulent instrumental drone, haunted by atmospheric guitar squall, reverberating fret noises, subtle sonic swells and the constant thump of the incessant bass drum. This track glides and arc’s through a dark and malicious psych induced world filled with howling vocalisations that twist and morph into many different frequencies at will. Up next, the albums penultimate piece swings deliciously on a bedrock of driving kraut/motorik percussion and repetitious instrumentation. ‘Ice Giants’ conjures up hypnotic hallucinations of 70’s sci-fi b-movie aliens aligned with a modern day sonic twist. The albums closing piece charges into ear shot on a bedrock of pounding drums, swirling guitars and soaring synth swells that are constantly building in tempestuous fashion and continuously circumnavigating that fragile vocal track. ‘Cacti’ builds from the off adding layer after layer of stunning instrumentation as it deftly skips along its chosen sonic path. A fitting ending to wonderfully creative album. ‘Holy Monitor’ have put together a serious collection of impressive soundscapes that are sure to attract both new and old listeners alike. Cosmic Fall - Kick Out The Jams (2017) (New Full Album)

01:32:56
Mostly-instrumentalist trio Cosmic Fall — based in Berlin and comprised of guitarist/vocalist Mathias, bassist Klaus and drummer Daniel — formed in 2016 and worked quickly to turn around First Fall, their first full-length of improv-based works. Kick out the Jams arrives with a fittingly quick turnaround and brings forth seven new pieces in its digital form, topping 93 minutes in its total space-bound push. More impressive than the quantity of the work — though I won’t take away from the sprawling appeal (or the delightful, influence-on-our-sleeve pun in the title) of the 21-minute “Earthfull” or 19-minute opener “Saturn Highway” — is the chemistry that seems to have immediately found root in Cosmic Fall‘s sound. They take a forward step in these tracks, to be sure, and there are more steps to be taken — a band like this, in the best case scenario, does not stop progressing, their material only comes to unfold more as a musical conversation between old friends; see Electric Moon — but as Kick out the Jams plays through its extended, immersive runtime, cuts like “Interstellar Junction” and “Stairway Jam” feel especially bold in how open they are in allowing the listener to hear that process happening. Songs are varyingly active — only “White Stone” is under 11 minutes long — and allow for Mathias to lead the way into the spaciousness of “Purple Weed” while Daniel‘s toms propel “Cosmic Conclusion” at the album’s finish, but the core message behind Cosmic Fall less than a year into their tenure is one of ambition and the band’s deep motivation to develop the already palpable dynamic they have going. One can only look forward to hearing where their adventures take them and, indeed, where they take their audience.
