Marketing Strategy - 5 Tips To Writing Ad Copy That Works

Whether you’re running ads on Google, Facebook, Instagram, doing billboards, magazine ads, the list goes on… it’s essential you have strong ad copy so you stand out! You want to stand out like a person in a red sweater in a crowd full of white sweaters. Here are 5 tips on how to write better ad copy. Tip #1- Sell the want, not the what! Think about the end goal of your prospects and restate that goal in a creative way. For example, for lawn care the goal is to save time and have a better looking lawn. So good ad copy could be “Finally, a greener lawn than your neighbors without lifting a finger”. A sign company might say “Your business deserves a sign that makes it proud and makes you money.” Tip #2 - Spot check the competition! When trying to come up with good ad copy, check out the ad copy used by other businesses in your space. What do you like? What do you not like? Use this information to inspire your ad copy and one up them! Tip #3 - A/B test your ad copy Test 2-3 different versions of your ad copy to see what works better. Whether it’s via an email campaign subject line, Google ad, social ad or what have you. Often times the ad we think will do best does not. So test! Tip #4 - Keep it simple! The shorter the better. Most people skim through your headlines in your content. So keep them short and sweet. The longer the ad copy the less effective. So don’t be wordy when it comes to the main headline. Tip #5 - Match the ad copy throughout the conversion funnel Often times the ad copy is good, but the next step of the funnel does not match. Such as a Google ad to the landing page or the Instagram ad to the landing page. Make sure the ad copy headline from the ad matches the ad copy headline on the landing page or you’ll see a higher bounce rate. Bonus tip - Design does matter! Even with good ad copy, if the design of your ads is weak, it will not be effective. Online branding is about trying to create an asset online of the brand. The brand can have equity if it actually solves the problem that the company is trying to solve. Brand equity is the commercial value that derives from consumer perception of the brand name of a particular product or service, rather than from the product or service itself Brand equity, brand fulfilment in terms of solving the problem for the organization and also in terms of trust, which can actually give a company a competitive advantage over its rivals. Digital Brand  Competitive Advantage This becomes particularly important when the products and services have very little difference from competitors, and so digital brand become far more impotant in terms of achieving a competitive advantage. And today I am excited to share with you a Linkedin strategy that’s helped us generate over 21,000 leads over the past 5 years across our many businesses. And that strategy is called Joint Venture Partnerships. Now, if you're not familiar with this strategy, it's essentially aligning your brand with other businesses that are non-competitive where your target market are going before, during and after your service. So, let me give you an example. When we had our business advisory firm, we wanted to connect with Accounting firms. Now, the reason we want to do that is because our co-target market which was small business owners were using accountants before coming to us for their business advisory needs. So, we jumped on to Linkedin, we implemented a campaign and literally within 3 months we connected with 500 Accounting firms, we had over 70 phone calls, 35 meetings, and out of those meetings, we had 17 Accounting firms jump on board and regularly promote us to their list. Now, the key in all these was throughout the process we figure out ways where we could actually add value to the accounting firms and their clients in order for them to want to promote us to their list. So, you really need to start thinking about those particular partnerships and how you can add value to them and their audience. Now, if you’re sitting there wondering, how do I now add this particular campaign or strategy within my marketing campaign, so I'm going to show you a few steps you can take here on the flip chart. So the first thing you need to do is figure out and know exactly who your customer is. So, there's a few metrics around this. First of all, you need to know which type of industry do you want to target in terms of your customer. Where are your customers located? The other thing you want to know is how many people are within the companies that you're targeting and then who that key decision maker is. Once you know that, then you want to identify your partners because you've got the right metrics to know, okay, well if I'm going after, let's say again, we used the...example of the business advisory firm we had, if we wanted to target someone else, because we know our customers, we then know that accountants are one good fit in terms of partners. Maybe, web developers are another good fit. Potentially, you know brand agencies could be another good fit. So once you know your ideal customer this will help you really understand exactly who those right partners are. So the question you wanna write down right now is where are my clients going before, during, and after my service. Now, once you've done that, you wanna jumped on to Linkedin, and use a feature which is called the Advance Search function. Now, I believe this is by far the most powerful tool online right now in terms of connecting you with your audience. So once you used advance search feature, you look at those metrics that you had over here and you essentially insert them into that feature, hit search and this will give you a list of all the potential partners that you could potentially connect with. Once you've done that, you then wanna build a relationship with them. There's nothing worse than sending a spammy email right after someone connects with you. And it's not a good way to build a relationship. So, we do that through series of 4 emails and you really into fine tune that process and figure out what works based on their type of partners you're going after. Now, once you build a relationship, then it's a process of actually promoting your call to action. So...Look, your call to action could be a phone call, it could be a face to face meeting, it could be a download where you get them off Linkedin and into your funnel. And then, obviously finally, you have to execute guys. This strategy is so powerful and we have proven in it across so many different industries and throughout our various businesses. But, at the end of the day, knowledge and content without action is useless and pointless. So, please make sure you execute this strategy and we look forward to helping you grow your business. Before anyone can do business with you, they need to know that you exist. Here's 5 brand awareness strategies you can use to get your business noticed! For people to be able to do business with you, they first need to know that you exist. Number one, influencer marketing. Find websites, bloggers, YouTubers, fan pages, that speak to the same audience that you do, and build a relationship. So one example, Casey Neistat, 9.4 million subscribers. "Francine only watches kids' shows that are in Spanish, so I tweeted that it's hard to find kids' shows in Spanish on Netflix. Veronica works for a Spanish kids show and sent Francine all this. Veronica, thank you." - Casey Neistat Notice how Veronica was being human and authentic, and how she wasn't salesy and sleazy? Being authentic is vital. Veronica now has her foot in the door because she listened. Collaboration is everything online. Similar to influencer marketing, joint ventures also involve engaging with brands with similar target audiences. Think about win-win situation like mail exchanging. If you had a similar amount of newsletter subscribers, you could do email exchange. When your featured on their newsletter and you feature them on yours. Hosting joint events. If you have similar audiences, hosting events together could save on a lot of costs as events can get really costly at the end of the day. One example might be a protein powder manufacturer and a local gym partnering up to host an event together. Public relations. The job of the PR agency as opposed to an advertising agency is that a PR agency gets you exposure in the form of editorial, being published on blogs, news websites, on YouTube channels. This is known as earned media or free media. A stronger corporate image can boost your stock price by up to six percent. The same logic can be applied to startups looking for investors. If you had six percent increase in investors saying yes, would you take that? Another example, do you guys know Dragon's Den? It's a show where entrepreneurs have three minutes to pitch their ideas to five multi-millionaires who then have opportunity to invest their own money into the business. So a lot of the times these entrepreneurs get massive offers just to the shock of the world when they decline it. And at the end of the day, the objective was not to get funding from investors, but to rather get the PR that appearing on the show would give. Being controversial. Nothing better than controversy to get your brand noticed. Let me show you the best example that I could find about being controversial. Excerpt from ad example: "So, how do you make the world believe your poop doesn't stink? Or in fact that you never poop at all? Poo-pourri. Poo-pourri is the before you go toilet spray that has proven to trap those embarrassing odors at the source, and save relationships." And the final point that I have, affiliate marketing. Getting others to sell your product and giving them a commission for sale is a great way of driving awareness and sales. You can either create your own affiliate program by using tools like SamCart, or you can partner up with an affiliate network and let them help you with the technical aspect. How Jay-Z And Diddy Made Millions Off Of 'Cheap Grapes'

Zack O'Malley Greenburg, author of 3 Kings: Diddy, Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, and Hip-Hop's Multibillion-Dollar Rise discusses how hip hop moguls, Jay-Z and Diddy, leveraged their fame to create two million-dollar brands. Following is a transcript of the video. Zack O'Malley Greenburg: Just goes to show how you can leverage your fame beyond just the music. About a decade ago The Economist interviewed the director of the company that makes Cristal Champagne, one of the most expensive champagnes in the world favored by Russian tsars over history, he was asked, what did he think about all these rappers drinking Cristal Champagne and he basically said, "Well, we can't forbid "people from buying it." Not exactly a ringing endorsement of a new customer base. He thought that rappers didn't read The Economist but he was wrong. Jay-Z heard about his comments, he removed it from his 40/40 Club, and more importantly he started issuing this sort of, directive to his fans, not to drink it either. And instead of rapping about Cristal, he put his money where is mouth was, he ended up investing in, and eventually taking over French champagne brand called Armand de Brignac, AKA Ace of Spades. You see this in his videos, the gold bottles, he raps about it all the time, and this has now become one of his most valuable assets in his entire portfolio. Diddy does not have his own champagne, however he has something just as or perhaps even more valuable, which is his deal with Diageo's Ciroc vodka. He started out with them in the late 2000s, and at that point, Ciroc was just a middling vodka brand being shilled by no-name former NFL players. They decided to take a chance on Diddy, and they didn't really have anything to lose, because Ciroc wasn't doing very well. It was about the fiftieth ranked vodka in the world and so Diddy came on and he applied his typical marketing panache and his shock and awe salesmanship, this was around the time that Barack Obama was running for president. He started calling himself Ciroc Obama, giving that free product placement, within only a few years, Ciroc was number two in the premium vodka category, to only Grey Goose doin' about two million cases a year. There's a really fascinating connection between Diddy and Jay-Z in the spirits world. Between the two of them, I mean you think, you know same job description, hip hop mogul, two very different guys, two very different approaches. But born a month apart, in the same city, both named Shawn and they both use the same cheap grape as the base of two of their most important products, that's the Trebbiano grape, which is considered by wine officials to be, you know sort of a, a nothing grape, it's a filler, it's table wine. Jay-Z has a Cognac called D'Usse, which is a joint venture with Bacardi. Of course, if you're making Cognac, it doesn't really matter because they're grapes that you have to include in order to be officially called Cognac. As far as Diddy's Ciroc vodka goes, using grapes is rather unorthodox, vodka is typically made out of potatoes or grains or something like that. So that was kind of his first philosophy with Ciroc is to center on the sexiness of the grape. Diddy: One-and-a-half ounces of Ciroc vodka, you can only make it with Ciroc vodka, other vodkas don't work. Greenburg: One thing that gets kind of lost in all of the promotion of Ciroc and such, is that Trebbiano is actually a very cheap grape and not some super-fancy thing. At the end of the day, Jay-Z and Diddy are both excellent, savvy businessmen. Of course they're not gonna get the most expensive grape because in order to do well on a product, you have to have a low cost, and you have to have a high price. We're here to answer your questions. If you have one, leave a comment below, and we may answer it in next week's episode. So Adam, what's this week's question? This one is from Dipak. It says, hey Neil, thanks for making this awesome video. Would you like to make one video about product launches? Like pros and cons during the launch process? The first thing you need to know when you're doing a product launch is that you need to have a platform that allows you not only to sell the product but to deliver the product. A simple way to sell the product is using click funnels. A simple way to deliver the product is using Kajabi. Kajabi allows you to deliver a course to people once they buy. Click Funnels allows you to optimize the funnels so you can get more purchases and sales. Technically, Kajabi can do all of that. But I prefer Click Funnels on the front end, and I love using Kajabi on the back end to deliver the course, drip people the content over time. Now that you got the software solutions, what you want to do is create a web page with the offering for your product launch. Use Click Funnels to create a video talking about your product, the price points, what they're going to get for it, and you can just create a script. Create a little quick intro video on Click Funnels. You can do this on your iPhone. You say in this intro video, hey everyone, wanna learn how to grow your YouTube channel? Register for this webinar. I'm going to show you 11 secrets on how to grow your YouTube channel. Once they register, you have a PowerPoint presentation. The PowerPoint presentation is going to be around 45 minutes to an hour. The first 30 minutes you're going to educate them on all these cool crazy YouTube tactics. Don't charge for it. Just give away all the information for free. After you do that, you said, hey, now that you've learned everything, do you want to hear a simpler way to grow your YouTube channel? I showed you all the ways that you can do it on your own, but would you like to learn some of the hacks that I use that speed up the process so that way you don't have to take seven, eight months to get results and you could get results in three months? Usually, people say yes. Then you hook them with a special offer. Normally, if I did one on one YouTube consulting and you went to people in person, you're going to charge five figures. You would end by saying, but, if you want to do this, I have a special offer for you, you can get it now for whatever price. Once you have people are saying yes, yes, yes. Then what you want to do is send them to a page where they can check out. You can do this all on Click Funnels. You can also do this live. You host a live webinar once a month, or you can make an evergreen webinar. If you want to make an evergreen webinar, webinar jam has software called everwebinar. Once you've completed those steps, you can drive traffic to your product launch using YouTube ads or Facebook ads. Facebook ads tend to convert better than YouTube ads. The other strategy for a product launch is to go to all the popular bloggers in your space, contact them and offer to give them 30, 40, 50% of every single sale you drive. Do a joint webinar with them. They'll push your product, and you can generate sales. ConvertKit does a wonderful job of this. Their revenue figures are public. They're doing over ten million a year in revenue. Most of their revenue is driven by affiliates and launches. Another product launch tip is to contact all of the people who clicked on your check out page but didn't buy. You re-market to them with the YouTube and Facebook video that breaks in with what they would get if they purchase. Send them back to the check out page. You'll notice it will be your highest converting ad campaign. That's what we did. It has worked amazingly well. It still works.
