Also, you'll notice that I take a full scoop of pre-workout even though it's after 9pm. That's just because this specific pre-workout has a nitric oxide blend but no caffeine or anything so it will get you a good workout and increase your circulation but nothing that will keep you awake after your workout. In this video, I’m going to give you 4 leg workout tips for mass that will help even the hardest of hardgainers to pack on size and start bulking up your legs in no time. The first thing that most guys with skinny legs get wrong is that they allow their ego and self consciousness get in the way of what they should be doing in their leg workouts. No doubt, it can be a bit intimidating to watch others around you squat multiple plates while you are struggling to lift even one big plate for clean reps. That’s ok. Everyone starts somewhere and if you choose to start further ahead of where you should be it is a mistake that is going to hold you back for years to come. Most guys with skinny legs will put more weight on the bar than they can handle in the squat and then proceed to crank out quarter reps. Not only is this robbing your legs of the stress that they can handle but you are doing this at the exclusion of doing the reps you should be doing to build bigger legs the right way. What you need to do is lower the weight to those that you can handle and get your intensity not from the heavier weights but from the high rep sets that you do in good form through full range of motion. The next thing the hardgainer has to do for his legs is learn how to properly push from the ground. There is no way that you are going to lift as much weight as you can in your leg workouts unless you learn how to push through your feet. An equal and opposite force is needed to lift the weight that is on your shoulders during a squat. There is no better place to learn this than with the deadlift exercise. The deadlift demands that you push through your legs during the first half of the left, beyond which point it becomes a pulling exercise. If you practice just the first half of the deadlift or combine it in one and a half rep fashion, you will build more strength through the legs off the floor. The will dramatically help you to increase your squat and lift heavier weights over time. Multi-dimensional leg training is also important to fully developed legs. Almost all of the leg exercises that hardgainers use only stress the legs in the sagittal plane. Squats, leg extensions and leg curl are all one plane exercises that don’t mimic the functionality of the legs and limit the amount of growth that can be had by training the adductors and abductors of the legs as well. Finally, I like to include exercises for the legs that are technically easier to perform than the squat and allow for someone just starting out to add weight faster. The Bulgarian Split Squat is a great exercise for doing this since it literally puts you in the right position to perform the exercise. The quads get loaded and the safety of the exercise is intact since you can simply dump the weights if you need to at the bottom of the squat without risk. The perfect leg workout must consist of compound exercises for the quads, glutes and hamstrings while not overlooking the smaller muscles of the hips and our ability to train in all three planes. In this leg workout, you will find that we overlook no component of upper leg training and get you training like an athlete in the process. As with all videos in this perfect workout series, the goal here is to make sure you will build not only size by following these leg exercises but strength and explosiveness as well. This starts as always with a compound movement for the legs, and there is none better than the squat. While warming up to perform the squat the key is not to exhaust yourself more than necessary. Too many times, people perform too many warmups, cutting into energy reserves for their working sets. What you should do instead, is do a few reps with your sub-working weight to loosen up your joints. Just before starting your first work set, perform one touch-up set with about 10 percent more than what you will be using for your workout. Perform just 1 to 2 reps here to prepare the nervous system and neurologically “lighten” the load that is to come. Work your way from sets of 5 to a set of 25 grueling reps on the squats before moving onto the next component of this leg workout; the posterior chain compound exercise. Here you have two choices. You can either do the barbell hip thrust or the glute ham raise. Keep in mind, because you will be able to significantly load the barbell hip thrust more than you will the glute ham raise, you will want to opt for this exercise if your main goal is training for strength. That said, if you are looking to get more active engagement of the hamstrings through their concentric range of motion, then you will want to do the GHR since it contributes in areas that the hip thrust only isometrically challenges. The next exercise is the hi/low dumbbell bulgarian split squat. This is a necessary component of any athletic lower body training approach because it is a unilateral exercise. Not only do the dynamic stability benefits shine through here but it challenges the body in the frontal plane in ways that traditional bilateral training via squats cannot do. Alternate the position of your torso on each rep to ensure you hit both the quads and the glutes more effectively on each rep. The TKE Drop Lunge is a great way to ensure resistance through terminal knee extension. Now, it is important that you understand that there is no way to isolate the medial or inner portion of the quads during an exercise. What you can do however is ensure that this separately innervated head of the quads gets full stimulation by going to a full lockout position of extension on every rep. We can overload that with the addition of the band as well. Next, no perfect leg workout would be complete without the additional focus on the inside and outside of our legs. The adductors are hit tremendously well with the Goblet Adductor Lunge shown in this video. Don’t just step back up to the top, but slide or squeeze your legs together to get yourself back to a standing position. This will light up the all important adductor muscles on the inside of your thighs and help you to build the strength needed. Finally, you have to hit the outside abductors of your legs as well. This can be accomplished with the finisher shown. The hip band ladder requires that you work your way up to 10 reps in each direction of a side step while making sure to keep your toes pointed straight ahead at all times. This will strengthen the outside of your legs, which is an area that tends to be very weak. In less than an hour, this Muscle Militia MVP workout will help you develop every muscle in your legs. You'll start with the calves, then move to the hamstrings and quads before finishing with loaded lunges—a dreaded exercise that will turn any set of weak toothpicks into powerful tree trunks. MVP STATUS Now, you might be wondering, "Just what the hell is an MVP workout?" Well, first and foremost, it takes an MVP: someone with motivation, vision, and passion; someone who's willing to push every exercise to the brink; someone who can train to failure, stare it dead in the eye, and shove past it. Show me anyone, man or woman, who can turn a workout into a muscle-burning challenge, and I'll show you an MVP. Second, the workout itself has to qualify. It has to be hard, fast, and packed with a dynamic array of exercises. It should build strength and size. It should test your limits, encourage growth, and hit the target body part with force. This leg workout definitely fits the bill. This is a volume-based workout, and your goal should be to get a good contraction of the working muscle on every rep. You may sacrifice a bit of the weight today, but focus on form and time under tension, and you won't be disappointed. When you concentrate on form, you get more into the nitty-gritty of breaking down your muscle. Move at a fast pace, using 3 sets of reverse-pyramid lifting per exercise. Go heavy on each first working set, then decrease the weight and increase the reps for the second and third sets. Drop the weight about 10 percent after each set. EQUIPMENT VARIATIONS Not every gym has a Smith machine. Not every gym has a leg press, let alone an inverted leg press. Be creative. The Smith machine leg press replicates that inverted motion; check out the video to see how I used a box for that exercise. The press can also be completed from the ground. Put the stops up on the Smith machine for safety.

In this video I’m going to be covering the “best” leg workout for mass and strong legs based on scientific literature and our understanding of the leg muscles. I’ll go through the most effective leg exercises that best activate the glutes, quadriceps, and hamstrings. These exercises are great for men and women, if your goal is leg hypertrophy (bigger legs) from your leg workouts. The four exercises I will discuss are the barbell back squat, front squat, Bulgarian split squat, and hip thrusts for glutes using a barbell. This combination of bilateral and unilateral leg exercises is ideal in order to add mass to the leg while correcting asymmetries that would be caused by only using bilateral exercises. Intense leg session with my good mates Fresh and Maya. Leg Workout Routine: We always start our leg day with a few warm up sets, in this video we started off with leg extensions, leg curls (Including Gironda leg curl) and Glute bridges. After the sets mentioned above, we we're fully warmed up and ready to take on the compound exercises. Our working sets includes of SST(Sarcoplasmic Stimulating Training) with Squats - heavy sets, time under tension and high reps. Hack squats facing the machine(heels are higher and more emphasis on the glutes) then the other way round to lay more ephasis on the quads. We love the leg press machine as it targets multiple muscles and with leg press we focus on repetition. Here, I’m going to reveal to you the number one thing you need to do every single time you workout your legs. Some may have given you alternative advice, and I’m going to tell you that what you have been given is just bad advice. For instance, if you were told that all you ever need to do is squat, you have been given bad training advice. Likely, the person telling you this has never trained an athlete and doesn’t understand that the extent of leg training encompasses more than just the quads and hamstrings. The muscles of the hips are some of the most underutilized and undertrained areas on the body and can only be targeted with multiplanar movements and exercises. The squat is a bilateral, sagittal plane movement. If all you ever do is squat then you are not training your legs and hips in the transverse and frontal planes. Basically, you are avoiding two of the three dimensions in space. Not good if you ever plan to call yourself an elite level athlete. Here I show you why incorporating single leg training is not an option but a requirement of a complete leg training plan. Now, am I bashing on the squat? Not at all. The squat is the single most important leg and hip movement that you can do and should form the basis or foundation of your leg workouts. That said, as I pointed out, this is a sagittal plane exercise that has some shortcomings that need to be addressed with additional single leg exercises. One of the key benefits to single leg exercises like the Bulgarian Split Squats and multi-directional lunges are that they not only train you to be strong on each leg individually but they help to reveal strength imbalances between sides. Intervening early when a strength imbalance is detected is one of the fastest ways to fix the problem and the best way to prevent this from resulting in a lower body injury that keeps you away from the gym for too long. You will see that no matter which athlete I train, at some point in a given leg workout we are going to be doing single leg exercises and training. It can either be explosive or controlled. The bottom line is, not an athlete gets out of the gym without first completing at least one of these leg exercise options in their leg workout. Once in the morning and once at night. 1. Sumo squat and calf raise 2. Reverse lunge and knee lift 3. Close/wide squat jump 4. Side squat with knee raise How to do the exercise: Sumo squat and calf raise: Feet should be double shoulder width apart. Feet should point in a 45 degree angle. Squat down as low as possible or until your thighs are parallel to the ground. Raise up to the start position standing on the balls of your feet. Repeat Reverse lunge and knee lift: Lunge one leg backwards until you form a 90 degree angle in both legs. Keeping feet shoulder width apart come back to the start position raising knee as high as possible. Come back to the reverse lunge and repeat Close/wide squat jump: Squat with feet shoulder width apart. Raise up into a hop and spread legs into a squat where your feet are double shoulder width apart. David Morin from Blue Star Nutraceuticals is going to take you through the best lower body workout. It’s designed specifically with your knees in mind so you’ll never have to skip another leg day, or sit out the big game again due to sore joints. Ready to takedown this workout? This is the Pain-Free Knees Leg Workout For Men! Let’s do it! Workout For this workout, you’ll do 6 exercises that work all 3 fundamental movements of the lower body: Squat, Hip Hinge, and Lunge. Mastering these movements will improve agility, build explosive power, and dramatically increase overall performance. To help rebuild strength in your knees and their surrounding muscles you’ll be doing higher reps with lighter weight. Aim for 65% of your 1 Rep Max. For example, if your 1 Rep Max for squatting is 300 pounds, use 195 pounds for this exercise. Perform this workout in linear fashion. This means doing all 4 sets for exercise 1 first, then doing exercise 2, then 3, and so on until all 6 exercises are complete. Take 2 minutes to rest and rehydrate with AminoFast™ between each set. Push hard and aim to complete the workout in under 1 hour and 15 minutes. Exercise #1: Box Squats By substituting traditional squats for Box Squats you limit the degree of flexion at the knee and keep a more upright shin position than traditional squats. Set up like a regular squat with a box around knee height behind you. Take a big belly breath, brace the core, squat down keeping the knees out, pause for a second on the box then drive the heels through the floor exploding to the top. Be sure to avoid rocking forward as you accelerate off the box - keep your shins as vertical as possible. Exercise #2: Stiff Leg Deadlift This is absolutely one of the best exercises for developing hamstring strength. Keep your back straight, chest up, push your hips back to get a full stretch in the hamstrings and glutes. Lower the bar keeping it as close to your shins as possible then contract your hamstrings and glutes to raise the bar back up explosively - maintain the same angle with your shins throughout the whole movement. Exercise #3: Step Back Lunge Step Back Lunges are less stressful on the knee compared to forward lunges. Perform these with a barbell across your back or grab a pair of dumbbells at your sides and take a big step back so both legs bend at 90 degrees. Keep your back knee just off the ground then drive through the heel of your front leg using your glutes and hamstrings to the top. Alternate side to side each rep, performing all the required reps for each leg. Exercise #4: Bulgarian Split Squats This exercise limits the flexion degree of your knee and allows you to really load up the resistance on your legs. Find a chair, ledge or bench, place the top of your foot on it and take a big step out, then perform lunges, keeping your torso upright, perpendicular to the floor. Perform all reps on one leg then switch legs. Exercise #5: Step Ups Grab a box or find a ledge around knee height. Drive through the heel of your front leg and explode up into standing position - then control back down and repeat. Perform all reps on one side, then switch to the other. Exercise #6: Seated Calf Raises Most gyms will have a seated calf raise machine like the Arsenal Strength one we have here at the Blue Star Training Facility - if not, you can perform this exercise propping your toes up on plates and holding dumbbells on your knees for weighted resistance. These are great for developing strong calves, and ankle mobility, and again allow you to maintain a vertical position with your shins throughout the movement. And that’s a wrap! It really is essential for developing a balanced physique that looks great and performs even better.
