My trip to London 2017

03:08
in Jan. 2017 I went to London for the 3rd time. This time, I went alone. I also hired a car and visited framlingham castle. I met some new sides of the city I have not seen before and met some interesting and inspiring people and I've seen inspiring and wonderful places. Whilst traveling alone I had plenty of time to think about life and stuff, who I am and what I really want to do. And some people gave me good life advices. Though this city ist the dirtiest and smelliest city I've ever been to I'm falling for it, each time I return.

Welcome to London - Tour around Covent Garden

04:29
Welcome to Covent Garden, London. I’m going to show you around and tell you what I know about this famous neighbourhood. Covent Garden is a popular place for tourists to visit in London, so I thought you’d like to see it. Native Londoners (like me) also go to Covent Garden just to walk around and to soak up the atmosphere. Join me as we learn about how this area was in the old days. I will tell you a little bit about the history of London -- how Covent Garden once used to be a very poor area and was considered to be a slum. You can now see how different it is -- there are many theatres and expensive shops. I wonder what it would have been like to be a flower seller in Victorian London. I had fun making this video for you -- hope you enjoy it! Take the quiz here: http://www.engvid.com/welcome-to-london-covent-garden#quiz TRANSCRIPT Hi, everyone. I'm Jade. In today's video, we're going for a walk around Covent Garden in London. It's one of London's famous areas, and it's known for entertainment and performers. So as we walk around, I'm going to tell you some of the things that I know about this area. Are you ready? Let's go. That's a cool shop! So here we are in Covent Garden. This area's really famous for theaters and street performers. And even though there are modern shops all around us and cafes, whenever I come here, I really get a sense of the old London, the London of 100 years ago or 150 years ago. At that time, too, there would have been street performers. And they would have sold roses and sung songs, songs like this, "Who will buy my sweet red roses? Such a sight you never did see." That song is from a musical called "Oliver". And that was written by Charles Dickens. So yeah. When I come to Covent Garden, I get a sense of all the history of London. Let's take a look at some of the performers. I don't know about you, but I think I've seen enough street performers now to last me a while. So I've taken you to a different part of Covent Garden because right behind me is a house where the great author Charles Dickens used to live. And do you know anything about Charles Dickens? Because he's one of our most famous writers. And he wrote at a time where London was pretty much poverty, disease, and misery for most Londoners. So we're really lucky to have the very different London that you see today. But I want to show you a part of Covent Garden so you can really imagine that time of Charles Dickens. Shoe distraction! Here we are at Seven Dials. It's a part of Covent Garden where there's a roundabout and seven streets coming off the roundabout. This place, in Victorian London, was a very different place. It was London's poorest slum. So it was one of London's worst areas. At that time, in a single house, as many as seven families lived. There was no electricity. There was no running water. So you can imagine it was a very dirty place. Also, there would have been a lot of crime around here because the families were very poor. These days, we see something really different. We see expensive boutiques. We see nice cafes. But at that time, the shops were called "rag and bone shops", and that means they didn't sell new things; they sold really, really old clothing that was almost falling apart, very, very old boots. So there was nothing new because this was a really poor area then. Because London is so old, we have secret alleyways like this. This is called "Neal's Yard", and it's actually one of my favorite places in Covent Garden because just down there, there are some cafes and really nice juice bars and things like that. But can you imagine how scary it would have been in Victorian times when all the people around here were a bit poor and a bit dodgy? But we're quite safe now. What I'm going to do now is get warm in one of those nice cafes there. And what you can do now is go and do the quiz for today's video on the EngVid website. If you enjoyed this tour around Covent Garden, thumbs up. And don't forget to subscribe. And I'd just like to say thanks for watching. See you later.

✱ 12800 Hotels in London - Lowest Price Guarantee ► https://booki.ng/2DFsetA Travel video about destination London in England. London is an exciting and pulsating metropolis of the new millennium, a melting pot of both people and culture and a fascinating city of diverse contrasts. The City Of London contains the Tower, an historic landmark with a remarkable history. A mighty medieval fortress with 13 towers that throughout its 900 years, has served many functions and from the Middle Ages, it was a heavily fortified prison. After the medieval St. Paul's Cathedral was destroyed by a devastating fire in 1666, Christopher Wren was ordered to re-build it with a dome. During the 36 years of its construction, its design was frequently altered until finally a wonderful masterpiece of church architecture was created. The Monument is the city's tallest freestanding stone column and a reminder of the Great Fire of London that destroyed 80 percent of the city. In four days, more than 13,000 buildings were destroyed and the Monument was built on the site of the bakery in which the fire began. Since the reign of Queen Victoria, Buckingham Palace has served as London's royal residence. A garden of mulberry trees once grew on the site of today's palace and the Duke of Buckingham subsequently added a simple brick built residence. Around 60 years later, George II purchased the site for his wife and George IV eventually began to design an extensive palace complex. The highlight of any holiday in London must be the largest Ferris wheel in the world, the London Eye. Situated on the banks of the Thames, it rises high into the sky, opposite the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. The former centre of the largest empire in the world, London is still a city of superlatives that attracts millions of visitors each year. Exciting both day and night, London is a modern city with age old traditions and a long and colorful history. -------------- Watch more travel videos ► https://goo.gl/MXPgSs Join us. We made time for major attractions like Il Duomo, Sforza Castle, and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, but we also veered away from the crowds in search of street art and interesting neighborhoods. This being Italy, we also tried to prioritize meals, sampling everything from pizza to risotto, and cappuccinos to aperitivos. The following travel guide will highlight 20 things to do when you visit Milan, Italy 1) Milan Catherdral (Il Duomo - Duomo di Milano - Domm de Milan) 2) Il Duomo Terrace 3) Italian Breakfast - Cappuccino and sweet Italian pastries 4) Sforza Castle - Castello Sforzesco 5) The Galleria - Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II 6) Risotto alla Milanese - Milan style risotto 7) Street Art around Porta Ticinese 8) Colonne di San Lorenzo - Columns of San Lorenzo Roman Ruins 9) Boat tour down the canal (linea traghetti gaggiano milano) 10) Dine along the canal in Milan's Navigli District 11) Aperitivo drinks and buffet - Apéritifs and digestifs 12) Shopping in Milan down Via Torino 13) Visiting Chinatown for some Chinese food 14) Ride a bicycle in Milan like a local 15) Pizza al taglio (pizza al trancio) Italian pizza by the slice 16) Basilica of Sant'Eustorgio containing relics of the 3 Magi 17) Duomo Museum covering the cathedrals history in-depth 18) New City Views with a hop-on-hop-off bus pass 19) Museum of Natural History - Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano 20) Night views of Milan nearby Il Duomo http://nomadicsamuel.com/photo-essays/20-things-milan-blogville Our trip to Milan, Lombardy was part of the Blogville project where we stayed in a local apartment and experienced all of the best cultural activities, museums, restaurants, arts and entertainment the city has to offer. This city guide is our best attempt to create a mix of best attractions and off-the-beaten-path activities that you won't necessarily find in a typical Milan tourism brochure. 20 Things to do in Milan Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript: Our first stop was Il Duomo, which is the most recognized attraction in the city. The cathedral took nearly six centuries to complete. So we've sat down at a little cafe and we're going to have our first Italian breakfast with cappuccino and sweet pastries. Something that surprised us about Milan is that there is a castle right in the middle of the city. Sforza Castle was built in the 15th century by the Duke of Milan, and it then underwent several restorations and expansions in the following centuries. Today it houses several of the city's most prized art possessions, including frescoes by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo's very last sculpture. For some upscale designer shopping, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is the place to be. So we just found a local little restaurant and we're going to be trying a traditional dish that is very popular in this city and in the Lombardy region. We are going to have Risotto alla Milanese. The Colonne di San Lorenzo are the remains of Roman ruins that date back to the 2nd century. They are believed to have been part of a bath house. Another fun activity to try in Milan is a boat tour of the canals. The city's canals are attributed to Leonardo Da Vinci, who in 1482 was called over by the Duke of Milan to help renovate the city’s canal system. Milan's Navigli District is one of the liveliest parts of town especially when the sun goes down for dining al fresco. So we've gone out for our first Italian Aperitivo. Which is kind of like a pre-dinner drinking tradition. Basically, you get yourself a cocktail for about 10 Euros and that gives you access to this massive buffet. And that's all for our visit to Milan. We hope this video will give you some cool ideas of sights and attractions to check out. This is part of our Travel in Italy series showcasing Italian culture, Italian arts, Italian foods & Italian cuisine. English Travel Vocabulary: Planning a Trip

07:08
http://www.engvid.com Are you going to travel? Make sure you're prepared with the vocabulary you will need for your business trip or vacation. In this lesson, I'll teach you the English vocabulary you must know for travel -- from preparing your travel itinerary and making reservations, to getting your visas and boarding your flight. It is essential that you know this basic English travel vocabulary, because English is an international language. ESL students who are studying abroad will find these words very helpful. Even if you are not travelling to an English-speaking country, as a tourist, you will need to communicate with people at the airport, and at tourist attractions. Watch this lesson, take the quiz, and have a safe trip! http://www.engvid.com/english-travel-vocabulary-planning-a-trip/ TRANSCRIPT Hi. Welcome again to www.engvid.com. My name is Adam. Today, I'm talking about a very interesting topic because, for example, in Toronto right now, it's very, very cold. I'm thinking about travelling; I would love to go somewhere hot to get away from this winter. So, when I travel, I have, of course, to make travel arrangements. So here, we have a list of words, a list of things that you must think about before you go on a trip to a different country. We're going to go over each of these. We're going to start with "booking" and "reservation". Now, many people think that this is more or less the same, which it is. To book something or to reserve something means to keep a place, to keep your place. You book a flight, you book a hotel room. Generally speaking, you make a reservation at a restaurant; you make a booking with a travel agency or with a hotel, with accommodations, any type of accommodation. Speaking of, accommodations are hotel, motel, hostel, B&B, bed and breakfast; all kinds of accommodations. Make sure you have a booking before you go, so your place is safe, it's kept for you. When you arrive, it's all good. Next, when you're at your destination, the place you're going to, you might want to "rent" a car. Okay? Sorry, this is accommodation. One thing I wanted to also make sure - "accommodations", without the "s", "accommodation" means something different. Okay? "Accommodations" is where you're going to sleep. And you might want to "rent" a car. You can also "hire" a car. Means the same thing. British people generally use "hire" more, North Americans use "rent" more often. Next, you have to think about your "baggage". Suitcase, luggage, bags, anything you're carrying with you. You might have "check-in baggage". Sorry, I don't know if you can see this guy. "Check-in baggage" and "carry-on baggage". "Check-in baggage" means you give it to the airline, they put it under the plane, you pick it up at your destination. "Carry-on" means you carry on, so you carry it on your shoulder on to the plane. Okay? In your carry-on, you have to be careful, it has to be small. You can't have liquids because of security and all that stuff. So things that you can't put in your carry-on, you must put in your check-in baggage and give to the airline. Next, when you get to the airport, assuming you're flying, you will have to do a few things that concern the word "boarding". Before you board your plane, get on your plane - you will get a boarding pass that lets you pass through security and into the airport. On the boarding pass, you will see your "boarding time", this is when you get on the plane and your "boarding gate", the place in the airport where you're going to get on your plane before takeoff. Okay? We can also use this for a train. You board a train, you get a boarding pass with a boarding time, and generally a boarding platform. Okay? So "boarding", getting on your vehicle, whatever vehicle that might be. You will also generally need to get a "visa" to many countries. Now, a "visa" is something that you use to get into a country, it gives you permission to stay in that country. But be aware: many places, if you're going through another country... So, for example: I'm going to country "C" via country "B". "Via" means by way of or through. So I might need a "transit visa", means I can go there, switch planes and keep going on my journey. But I'm still in another country, I need a transit visa. Excuse me. Also, make sure you're prepared to spend money as soon as you get to your destination. If you're going to a different country, that country will but using a different "currency", type of money. In Canada, we have Canadian dollar. America has American dollar. Okay? For things like that. In Europe, you need the euro. So make sure you have some of the currency before you go, or purchase it at the airport or at the destination you're going to.
Japan Journey: The Conclusion | Travel Vlog (Home to London)

05:50
I'm in Tokyo at Narita Airport, doing a little bit of duty-free shopping and that's it, I spent the last of my yen and I'm on my way back to London, after two months of travel, travel, travel. ► SUBSCRIBE: https://bit.ly/2JhKPln It is Monday, the 15th of January, something like 8:30, 9 a.m., 8:30 or 9 a.m., My travels have all come to a close and I'm heading back to London, so you know, I would obviously love to continue traveling for longer, but my responsibilities beckon. The girlfriend is calling and it is time for me to zip back across to English-speaking lands and pick up the momentum and get things rolling for 2018, so yeah, it's been a really awesome trip, looking forward to getting back in town and smashing it. Yeah, so I had a quick bite to eat in the lounge, chilled out for a little bit, and then I started editing my photos, I'm gonna spend a couple of hours on the plane just going through some of my photos from my slr, it's flicking through, selecting like a short list, doing some edits if I can, and hopefully I'll have a nice selection of images. Anyway, it's right now, I'm just shooting across to the gate, gonna board soon, I've spent all of my yen, so no more duty-free shopping for me. All right, so I am on SWISS on the way home, I fly SWISS all the time actually when I go to Geneva to see my brother 'cause he lives out there, although I've never flown SWISS long haul, I think this is a slightly older plane, it doesn't look like it's got the newest of all cabins in it, it's still a full flatbed, so super comfortable, so it's a little bit cozy with the neighbor here, but at this moment, I don't have anyone sitting next to me, so fingers crossed that that stays the same. Well I seem to have developed the habit of leaving stuff on planes, so when I flew from Portland to Sydney, I don't know if I recorded it or not, but I managed to completely leave my laptop on the plane, which I've done, I think, a couple of times before, they managed to get it for me and I picked it up at the airport when I was flying to Tokyo, but now I've got so much stuff out, I'm just getting paranoid about checking everything. I love it when they give you slippers on the plane, not sure what it is, actually, let's pull it open and find out. Oh, it's a goodie bag. I don't know what that is, put it over your face? And then here we got the usual toothbrush, toothpaste, lip balm, and a pair of socks, as well, oh, and my neighbor has arrived, so, I better stop taking up all the space, ay, gonna put my slippers on and chill out, any chance for a hot cup of cocoa?
