The Best, Fastest Note Taking Method! // UPDATED

05:41
UPDATED VERSION: How to Take AMAZING Notes and SAVE your Grades » my simple note-taking system https://youtu.be/YzC-f2r1NQE Hello fellow subbies! This video is an update on my first youtube video! I've made modified my note taking system and I'm going to share with you my top note taking tips, as well as some hacks, how to decorate your notes in a creative way and how you can improve your penmanship to write faster! This video is a collab with Meg Thomson, "Little Study Spot" on Tumblr. Check out her blog: http://littlestudyspot.tumblr.com/~ How to Take Notes with your Laptop: http://littlestudyspot.tumblr.com/post/130813322934/taking-notes-in-class +++++++++++++++++++++++++ Download a FREE audiobook and subscribe for a FREE trial: http://www.audibletrial.com/alicespicks +++++++++++++++++++++++++ SUBSCRIBE TO MY CHANNEL! -- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEHp_b02I0GvTYCBPX_0w1g?sub_confirmation=1 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ First, the basics – when I’m taking notes, be it in my lectures or at home, I always use grid paper, a blue or black BIC pen, two highlighters and three colored pens – two of the same color but in different hues and one in a contrasting color. If you are already acquainted with color coding, go ahead and use a few more, but this is the best scheme for basic color coordination. Before you start to develop your note taking method, you need to know the following: • Don’t write everything that your professor says – focus on the key points and relevant information. Avoid repeating sentences and key words often. • Reference your material throughout with quotes, page numbers, and so on. • Use your topics and titles as guidelines for a self-made study guide – I will explain this further on. • Although this may sound contradictory, make an effort to only write your notes only once and saving the extra time for studying them. My note taking system uses the Cornell Method as a base but I’ve added a few personal tweaks. This method that uses a triple division system, just as I’m showing you in the picture. On the left column you should write the topics or titles of your material; in the right, you should talk your notes, per se; and in the bottom box you should write a brief summary of that page. I’ve used this classic method for some time but I found the need to change it up. First of all, I removed the summary box – this happens because my material isn’t very adaptable to summaries. It’s perfect if you can keep it but, if you remove it, it won’t detract from the method. Then, I use my left column for titles, like the classical method; but I also write quick notes that aren’t related to the notes themselves, like professor’s recommendations, articles that I should read on the subject, or reminders. This left column, as I’ve said earlier, is a great, automatic study guide. You can go through your notes and, just by looking at these titles, you can see immediately what you’ve already studied. You can even draw a box besides each topic so you can check them when you are preparing for a test or an exam. Top 5 Note Taking Strategies: What’s The Best Note Taking Method for You?

02:07
A breakdown of the top 5 note taking strategies and how you can best use them to achieve your goals. Find out which method of taking notes will work best when matched with your goals and/or learning style. To learn more about each method, check out our learning series at http://www.discoverbusiness.us/learning/. #notetaking #cornell #outline #charting. Transcript: Top 5 Note Taking Methods: What's The Best Method for You? Number 1: Cornell Method Use this method if you want to comprehend as much as possible, master your notes, or fully understand your subject. The Cornell Method was developed in the 1950's, has a built in means to go back and study, encourages reflection and clarification, and is very systematic. Plus, it has gained recognition as a fantastic method for taking notes. It's page outline is very structured and divided into three sections: Main, Cues, and Summary. The Main section is used during the lecture, while the cue and summary sections are used within 24hrs (or sooner) of the lecture. Number 2: The Outline Method This method might be good for you if you like things tidy, love organization, and enjoy compartmentalizing. The Outline Method dates back to the 13th century and, incredibly enough, is STILL one of the most commonly taught note taking techniques in the Western world. It is a great strategy for dealing with information that is organized, such as textbooks. Plus, it naturally has a strong visual component to it (great for all you visual learners). It's page outline uses a system of capital and lowercase letters and numbers to indicate the relative importance of different ideas. Number 3: The Charting Method This method might be good for you if you like to be fast, love efficiency, and are the sort of person who screams yes to being prepared. With the Charting Method, notes are split into labelled columns (typically 4). Prep time is a bit more than other strategies, but it pays off because it enables you to take notes at a quicker pace. The Charting Method also provides a nice systematic overview of your notes. As previously stated, pages are divided into various columns (the most common being 4). Major topics that will be covered during the note taking are then assigned to each column, e.g., Date, Events, People, and Significance (see the example in the video). Number 4: Mind Map Method This method might be good for you if you are a visual learner, you enjoy minimal note taking, and you like to see how things are connected. The Mind Mapping Method uses images to display ideas that begin in the center of the page and work outwards. It's a fantastic tool for individuals who are visually oriented, and in theory actually uses the same basic architecture as the brain. Pretty cool. In term of page structure, mind maps begin in the centre of a page, and ideas spread out from that point. Each idea is connected to at least one other idea. Number 5: The Sentence Method This strategy might be good for you if you are new to note taking, need to record every fact, or simply don't like preparation. This strategy is the easiest to learn, and does not distinguish between major and minor points. Notes are recoded verbatim, and in many ways, it is the opposite of the charting method. With the Sentence Method, there is no official or proper page layout. With every new source that is mentioned, it is simply advised that you move to a new line. How I take notes - Tips for neat and efficient note taking | Studytee

Open for FAQ and everything included! Hello everyone! Here’s the long awaited updated version of how I take notes! This technique has saved me this semester as I don’t have to write separate lecture notes and textbook notes, and I hope it can help you as well! ☺️ I’ve been on a little break from social media these last few weeks, just to focus on my studies, family and friends. I’m finally seeing the end of exam season (only 1 exam to go!), and Christmas is finally around the corner. I hope everything is going well for all of you who have finals at the moment, and I wish everyone who celebrate all the best for the holiday season! ❤️ Small tip; if you don’t already follow my Instagram, you should check it out! How to take efficient and neat notes - 10 note taking tips | studytee

PLEASE READ: As you'll see at about 01:40, my handwriting has changed. Before commenting/complaining about that, please read my little explanation further down 💕 Open for FAQ (will NOT be answered in comments), stationery used and contact information! ✏️ If you have a question, please read the description first! You might find your answer there :) About my handwriting: Yes, I am aware that my handwriting has changed. It doesn’t look as neat as before, but this is my real, fast handwriting. My last one probably looked better, but it was a lot slower. I realised that the only reason I kept using that handwriting was because I wanted my notes to look good, and for me that was a wrong reason. So I’ve started using my fast handwriting, and even though it might look messier, it feels so much better. I don’t have to constantly worry that my handwriting isn’t neat enough for instagram, I can write my notes a lot faster, and I get extra time which can be used for actual studying. So I’m sorry if you’re disappointed because I changed my handwriting, but the main reason I take notes is because it benefits my studies, not because people on Instagram and youtube like to see them. Starting to care less about my handwriting has made me less stressed and anxious, so for me this change is definitely for the better. I’m hoping you guys will support me on this! My handwriting is still legible after all. 😉 ——— With the handwriting business out of the way, welcome to a new video! This is kind of an updated version of my most popular video «How i take neat notes (neat and effective», and I hope that you’ll like the tips I give in this one. These are not revolutionary tips or anything, just some helpful techniques that I’ve picked up in my schoolyears☀️ Feel free to leave your own note taking tips below, and thank you for watching the video! I'm also self-studying biology and chemistry to get a solid foundation for the subjects I'll be taking in university, as well as to get some repetition so I don't forget everything I learned in high school. Where do you buy (name of stationery item)? - If nothing else is specified I got it from a local book/stationery store. Google the brands to see where it's sold in your country! How old are you/where do you live/what's your name? - I prefer not to answer these questions for privacy reasons. I'm on a gap year after high school/before university so that is a good indicator for my age, I'm from somewhere in Norway, and I go by the name studytee/Tee here on the internet :) Can you send me your notes, or do you sell them? - I post my notes on Instagram, and other than that I don't share/sell them, I'm sorry! *Question/comment about my voice* - I am aware that I have a child-like voice, but that’s just the voice I was given. This is my «natural voice», and if you don’t like it then your computer or phone probably has a mute button somewhere. There, problem solved! How to Create a Good Note Taking System for Your Needs! (1/3)

09:29
It's finally here and I'm so excited! This video is part 1/3. This series is divided as follows: PART 1/3: How to Create a good Note-Taking system for Your Needs https://youtu.be/3Gf3mdwDBsc 1. Important attributes of a good note taking system. (1:32) 2. What classes to use handwritten note taking system for (4:30) and a brief spiel about handwritten notes vs typed notes (6:38) PART 2/3: The Mistral Method: the BEST Note-Taking System! https://youtu.be/Rxk4R-ntYyo 2. the Mistral Method: Layout of the page and info (1:08) Colour coding system (5:00) Pens and highlighters that work well together (5:30) Bullet system and signifiers (11:05) PART 3/3: Tips and Tricks for Note Organization https://youtu.be/Mtsf-lrhfoc 3. Extra tips to incorporate (depending on the subject) (1:32) 4. Flip through some class binders where I use handwritten notes, and show you how I organize all the notes for a course (2:55) WHY IS THE MISTRAL METHOD SO AWESOME: - ADAPTABLE | I use it for typed AND handwritten notes, and I even use the same system in my bullet journal! No need to memorize different colour codes and styles. - EFFICIENT and QUICK | I HATE rewriting notes. I feel like I'm better off just studying. The Mistral Method withstands rapid-fire lectures and slow brainstorm sessions - ORGANIZED | I review, not study for tests - all because the process of taking the notes has already ensured I store the material in a logical, organized way - both in my brain and on paper. - TEST OF TIME | I've been using the same one for the past 2 years for all my subjects and it works perfectly! This system is HUGE, but it’s absolutely amazing and I’m so proud of it. I hope you use it and/or get inspired by it.! Later, I might make shorter but more detailed videos about specific aspects of my system. Let me know what you'd like to see in the comments! I love hearing from you! And remember: when it comes to studying, MORE isn’t necessarily better. A lot of people ask me about the time it takes to stay organized and whether that’s an issue. And as I’ve come to realize more and more, BEING ORGANIZED is what 80% of my success is attributed to. Sure, it takes a bit more time to GET organized, but then your mind is organized too! The tasks are easier to break down and do. And the tests are easier to study for - because you’ve been studying this whole time already. Keep that in mind! :-) And please check out my blog and Instagram for more great stuff that I don’t make into videos! ;-) (AND PLEASE SELECT HD 1080P FOR BETTER QUALITY :-P) ....................................... 5 Different Note Taking Methods || Fast and Effective

05:03
Hey guys! Sorry for not posting in 3 weeks :( But I just finished up this video about five minutes ago and needed to post! I hope you all will enjoy it. The Dutch Door method was made by Haley Cairo, or at least I discovered it through her. I found the Cause and Effect method through Mariana's Study Corner. Both great studytubers!! Yesterday was my birthday so my family and I went to Canada (I love Canada so much). We spent the day eating poutine, looking at art galleries and going to some thrift shops. It was really cool because I had never gone to a thrift store before. Should I post a "haul"?

How to study efficiently: The Cornell Notes Method

13:50
Learn to study faster and more efficiently, and remember more! I will show you my favorite system for taking notes, called the Cornell Notetaking System. You'll learn a way to take better notes and become a better active listener. I'll explain how to use this method and show you an example of it. Using the Cornell template will help you remember more of what you hear in class and help you organize your notes better. This method will help you if you are a student in a high school, language school, or university, or if you attend meetings, conferences, or like studying on your own! You can practice using the Cornell Notetaking Method with this video on the differences between British and American spelling at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BG017jvhB7I , or any other engVid lesson! To test how well you understood this lesson, take the quiz here: http://www.engvid.com/how-to-study-efficiently-the-cornell-notes-method/ Find more free advice on how to take good notes here: http://www.goodluckexams.com/how-to-take-effective-study-notes/ TRANSCRIPT Hello. My name is Emma, and in today's video I am going to teach you an amazing way to listen and take notes. This method I am going to teach you today is really, really going to help you, and I know this because I use this method myself, and I found it has really, really helped me when I was in university, during meetings, during all sorts of different situations. This method really works. So, first, before I teach you about the method, I want you to think about yourself and I want you to think about: When do you take notes? Okay? So, when do you listen and when do you take notes? So, some of you might think... Maybe you're in university, maybe you're in college, maybe you're in high school, and you have to listen to your teacher talk, and you have to take notes to help you remember what they are saying. Maybe you've graduated and you're working in a business, and you have meetings and... Or presentations, and you also need to take notes. So, this method will work for whether you're working or you're studying. Maybe you're taking the IELTS or the TOEFL, this can also help you on the TOEFL test in terms of improving your listening and taking notes. So, how do you take notes? Okay? I know some students, they watch their professor or their teacher talk, and they use their computer, and they just type everything their professor or teacher says. Is this something you do? Maybe you write your notes, and you write every single thing your professor says down on a piece of paper, or anything somebody says. Well, there are a couple of problems with these methods, and I'm going to explain to you some of the problems now. So, for people who like to take notes by computer, there are some advantages of this. You're able to type really quickly and you're able to get a lot of what you hear down on your computer, and it's easy to save. But the problem with this is it's a type of passive listening. So, a lot of the times you're not actually using your brain to interpret what you're listening to, and you're not actively listening. You're just copying word for word, you're not actually doing anything active with the material you're listening to. So, working with a computer-and I've seen this in my university-a lot of students also end up going on Facebook during the lesson or lecture. So, a lot of the times they get very distracted. When they should be listening, they're actually not. So, for me personally and I think for a lot of people, using a computer to take notes is not the best method. Again, for some people it might work, but for a lot of people it doesn't. A lot of the times it's actually better to take notes by hand, and the reason is when you take notes by hand, you have to think about what you're writing because writing takes a bit longer than typing. So you're organizing the material, therefore it's more of an active way to listen. Okay? And they've done psychology studies on this, and they do find that taking your notes by hand is often better than taking notes by a computer. So, today I am going to teach you a way to take notes by hand using what is called "The Cornell Method". This method was developed at Cornell University, and a lot of universities actually encourage students to use this method because it is very good. So, what is the Cornell Method? Okay, well, I'm glad you asked. So, I have here an example of how you would organize your paper. Imagine this is your paper that you take your notes on. What you can do is you can make a box just like this where you have a box where you write the title and the date of the lesson, you have a square or a rectangle here, you have a rectangle here, and you have a rectangle at the bottom. Okay? So, in total you have-one, two, three, four-four different rectangles.

How I Take Notes In Medical School | Note Taking Tips from a Medical School Student!

09:07
In my first two years of medical school, I found that having a good system of note taking is essential for a medical school student. During my first year as a medical school student I got a chance to try out different techniques of taking notes, and in this video I share best note-taking method that worked for me. HOW I TAKE NOTES IN MEDICAL SCHOOL 1. Find your crew (study group): this is probably the hardest and the most important part. Considering the volume of notes you need to take in medical school, it’s probably best if you have 2-3 other people working with you. Make sure you can trust them- make sure everyone has the same general idea of what’s important and what’s not. Before the start of the week, divide up the lectures equally and type up the general outline notes BEFORE class. This way, you can print out the notes and write/draw/highlight during the lecture. 2. Preview the notes/lecture slides the day before lecture (whenever they are posted) and make an outline. I like to do a simple bullet point outline on Microsoft Word. Depending on the format of the lecture slides, I can either copy and paste important information or I have to type out the information. As you go through med school, it’ll become clear to you what needs to go into your notes vs. what doesn’t 3. Take advantage of tables and images. These are some of the best ways to condense a lot of information. You can also ANKI the tables later (check out my memorization tip video) and use it actively for test preparation. 4. Little things: decide as a group on format of your notes-- I like to use narrow margins, arial font size 10. My group always labeled each DAY of lecture on the very top of the page so for example (Cardio W2D4) 5. For certain subjects, it might be helpful to study in an entirely different way: Calculation heavy subjects: make a study sheet (example: acid base questions) Anatomy or biochem: draw stuff out yourself 6. Be creative and find out what works for YOU and your curriculum CHECK OUT THE REST OF MY VIDEOS: Starting 3rd Year Rotations: https://youtu.be/vqq76aUlbZw Summer Tips for Pre-Med Students: https://youtu.be/m6tJ0TmrFVI Medical School Q&A: https://youtu.be/L-DDY-aEpKw How to Stay Focused While Studying: https://youtu.be/heIIDIe_Yck Memorization Technique: https://youtu.be/pl-SX4Qt1vQ Should I Go To Med School and other FAQ: https://youtu.be/N8o-IB-wcW8 Resources and Study Schedule for USMLE Step 1: https://youtu.be/0nwNt45kRLA What's in my med school backpack: https://youtu.be/bAh4MxPb0iA FAQ about how to get into medical school: https://youtu.be/2PehxHQLBM4 What's in my white coat: https://youtu.be/KROFnLSDc7Y How a typical medical school schedule looks like: https://youtu.be/da917hZV-wo Useful Apps I use in Medical School: https://youtu.be/S-e3uA-SdG0 Typical Weekly Schedule of a Med School Student: https://youtu.be/da917hZV-wo Study Tips for Medical School and College: https://youtu.be/MUGnNH9AEX0 A Typical Day in Medical School: https://youtu.be/RgftpK99w2I How to Prepare and Study for the MCAT: https://youtu.be/iK8FK3o5lA0 Study Schedule of a Medical School Student: https://youtu.be/H9XFLqJ0Xb8 First Year vs Second Year of Medical School: https://youtu.be/T4cT-jZHCzY Staying Motivated in Medical School: https://youtu.be/RL2UtHdNkSQ A Typical Weekend in Medical School: https://youtu.be/ad-3Jf40i-Y Favorite Note Taking Tools and Stationery: https://youtu.be/QkfRgPD6QBQ My Path from High School to Med School: https://youtu.be/-3RJs7aSSOQ Typical Day in Medical VLOG: https://youtu.be/pWnktL1LAv8 -------------------------------------------------------------- Mail: Jamie L. Cornell Notes Method of Taking Notes

02:14
Sponsored by the Sacramento City College Student Success and Support Program ---------- The Cornell method is a way of taking notes. A professor at Cornell University created this system to help his students keep their notes organized and useful. Here is the technique. On a sheet of lined note paper, draw a horizontal line above the bottom six lines of the paper. Then draw a vertical line from the top margin down to this horizontal line, about a third of the way from the left edge. Put today’s date at the top of the sheet. Take down your notes in the large “note-taking” right column. Your notes should consist of the main ideas of the lecture, video, or textbook you are studying. Keep your notes efficient. Paraphrase longer ideas. No need for complete sentences here. Use phrases that leave out parts of speech such as articles, conjunctions, prepositions, and auxiliaries. (Note: examples of these parts of speech will be in the visual). Think about how people write Twitter posts or news headlines. Use symbols and abbreviations where possible. Include quick sketches of the material when appropriate. In the left “cue column”, jot down relevant questions and key words. Do this during your note-taking, or immediately after. Writing questions and prompts helps you clarify meanings, reveal relationships, and establish continuity. This cue column will also assist with your future reviews of the material. Within 24 hours of taking notes, write a brief summary in the bottom six lines of each page. Condensing your notes down to a couple of sentences helps you make the topic more clear in your mind. When you are studying for a test or quiz, you now have a concise yet detailed record of your previous classes. A method of review is to cover the note-taking column and look only at the left-hand column. Say aloud—in your own words—the answers to the questions and prompts indicated. Spend at least ten minutes every week reviewing all your previous notes. Regular review of your notes between tests helps you better comprehend new lectures. It also enhances your long-term recall of the material. Try it and see for yourself how helpful this method can be! ---------- http://www.scc.losrios.edu/readysetgo/
