My art materials to draw fashion sketches | Justine Leconte

04:50
This video shows you the art supplies that I use to draw fashion sketches: SKETCHING: HB and 2B grey pencils (I forgot to mention the erasers: a regular one, one that has a thin tip and a kneaded eraser which doesn’t leave residues on the sheet of paper) Graphite for quick sketching Charcoal pencil for the shadowing and to get really black backgrounds Ink pens (PIGMA 005, 05 and 1 // FABER-CASTELL Small, Medium & Bold) Fixative (either from the art supplies store or a simple hairspray) COLORING: Markers: Chartpak AD / Copic / Prismacolor (several colors + darker shades of those colors, warm and cold greys, several black tones, several skin tones and a blender) Color pencils: a regular box of colors will do the job (but you need white, black, grey and a skin tone) PAPER: Sketchbook in a format that fits your pre-made croquis, slightly see-through Marker paper (bleedproof) in a larger format. How to Retrace a Fashion Sketch | Fashion Sketching

01:47
Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501951-How-to-Retrace-a-Fashion-Sketch-Fashion-Sketching Learn how to retrace a fashion sketch from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. Sometimes something you'll have to do a lot as a fashion is to retrace your sketches, so you can add a different texture or color to it without having to redo the entire sketch from scratch. And I like to use marker paper, because then that can be your final sketch. It's kind of see through but it's not too flimsy as tracing paper would be. So first step is, of course, put the paper over your sketch. And this dress was a lace dress, but I need to re-render it without the lace. Using my maker paper because it's great, see-through, and sturdy, all at the same time. Give her both necklines, give her sleeves, do your hemline, create your folds, but you're basically tracing right through it, it's wonderful. Give her a head, guess she deserves a head. I'm going to give her a high hairdo, why not. Get some legs, give her some heels, because it's a different dress. And now, you've just retraced your fashion sketch, and now you can create this in any color, and it's really handy that way. So that's how you retrace a fashion sketch.

Men Fashion sketches on a transparent paper

04:04
Male Fashion figure on a transparent paper Finally, a fashion tutorial to see how to design some men clothes. First, use pencil to minimally sketch the silhouette of the body. There is no problem if you don't know how to draw the male body. I will show you a simple technique that works everythime: use transparent paper to sketch some main areas in the male body. Just leave some small pencil traces or some keypoints to know where the face will be positioned. This is the most important. You will find transparent paper in each shop, and they come in white, red, blue and many other colors. Mine is transparent meaning white transparent paper. After the minimal sketching, I used white Posca marker - large size and then a white liner, to add some details. The source of inspiration is the image in the left side of the screen. So i took the branches as a source of inspiration. I transformed them into graphic patterns to create a heavy volume for the coat. Then, with black Copic marker i added the big surfaces to help the white graphic lines be even more obvious. For the face and face details i used art and graphic twin makers to underline the shadows. With a pastel pencil i filled the areas where the hands or the gloves are and then, with a brush, i used gold acrylic to add some details. I just filled the empty spaces with gold, as you can see. On transparent paper, there is no need to add too much water, because this can ruin your sketch. The paper will have wrinkles. For the hair, i used black marker from Copic. And then, i added some highlights with white, on the glossy parts of the face. Once you finished the drawing, you can try to see how your transparent paper will look like when superposed to white paper, black or colored one. See what better works for you and then use a tape to stick them together. For the other 2 designs, the process will be the same. Now sit back and enjoy the rest of the video. Hope you will like it. And if so, please share it, leave me a comment or a thumbs up and if you didnt do it until now, please subscribe for more. thank you for watching, and, as always, stay tuned for more videos to come, next thursday, same hour, same place. Tips to draw better a fashion sketch in 4 minutes

05:00
The tutorial for today: Tips to draw better a fashion sketch in 4 minutes. We start with the construction axes. Don't over draw them. Just a simple sketch will do.This simple axes will help you and they will be a small guidance for your future costume.Remember that if the shoulder axis goes up, the hip line will balance the figue and it will be sketched in the oposite direction.Use soft lines and the use strong strokes that will create your costume. This is an exercise about composition, accents, balancing the lines in a fashion costume, it is an exercise that will help you be more creative, very fast, As a tip: use a music playlist and depending on the music, you can accelerate your lines, after the beat. There is no use in drawing the details, all you have to do is to have an expressive line, very modulated. For the second fashion sketch start, as previously, with the axes. Then add lines, dots and surfaces to your costume, to make in even more creative and interesting to be watched. A drawing is perfect when you have multiple line sizes - and these you can obtain when you press softer or harder, when you can add pression to your pencils and control the lines. Another tip is to keep your eyes half closed to see where you need to put the accents in a fashion sketch. If the sketch has almost the same "color" let's say, it is time to have areas where the line is stronger or softer, where you have empty spaces or black surfaces. These areas are those where the eye of the viewer stops and reflects, where the eye takes a break. When drawing more figures on a single paper sheet, try to think of all of them as a unit, as a whole. Each fashion sketch can be treated as an individual composition, but also the full paper should be in harmony, having the perfect composition. See those black areas that I underline sometimeS? Those are the equilibrium of each composition and they help you create a rythm to your drawings. At then end, take a look at all my drawings on this page and try to understand which technique I applied and why. The first model is feminine and it has a curved soft line. The scond one has the accents put on the upper side, having big volumes in the shape of a pair of earrings and jewelry for the neck. The third one is more elastic, nervous and it has a bigger volume the the preivous sketches. Here the contrast between the soft lines and those with accents is bigger. The costume is composed by 3 areas that are round: the two volumes on the shoulders and the lower part- the skirt. The last one has a more masculine approach. The lines are bold, strong and they tend to have angles. They are more rigid and they look geometric somehow. The last figure is the accent of this composition. The line is crazy and unexpected, compared to the previous strokes. Try to do this exercise at home, by copying my sketches and then by inventing new ones. Good luck!

How to do fashion sketches step by step

06:34
I'm Ioana Avram, fashion designer. Welcome to my Fashion teaching channel where you will find design videos starting from basic, easy level ( for beginners ) until advanced level. Follow my advices regarding the hand draw: anatomy studies, fashion poses, figures and croquis, learn about style and craft, fabrics and how to create garments. I love painting and sketching, I like fabrics and fashion magazines and especially pencil, ink and watercolor technique. I believe anyone can draw after practicing a while because all you need is work, work, work and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. :) I made this channel to prove that it's ok to have talent, but not necessary. Through my one of a kind technique you will see how easy it will be to draw from now on. You will learn more about fashion and everything related to it: composition, shading, textures, different techniques and especially learn how to draw fashion sketches all by yourself. I will post new videos each Thursday so don't forget to subscribe. I will do my best to answer all comments. Ask anything you want, and feel free to leave any suggestions for future videos! All are taken into consideration. For more info visit my website fashion-teaching.com. Thank you and take care! FAQ: 1. What materials do you use for your drawings? ****************************************************** I use Toison d'Or or Koh-I-Noor pencils ( from 4B to 8B), Copic markers, Derwent coloured pencils, Canson paper or Fabriano paper, Factis eraser, metal pencil sharper and Winsor and Newton watercolors and ink. 2. Did you go to any art school or academy? ****************************************************** Yes, I studied design and fashion design ( for 4 years) at the University of Arts and Design in Cluj, Romania, Europe. I had a scholarship in Katowice, Poland and another one in Coburg, Germany and a course attended with Gary Tu - a well-known fashion illustrator from Taipei, Taiwan. 3.Where do you get your inspiration? ****************************************************** Basically I am very interested in any image and text that could grab my attention: fashion albums, history of art, books I read, movies I see...In fact, i will share below all my sources of inspiration. Find all my inspirational folders here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/397137153755499/photos/ 4. Do you have any links or books you can recommend? ****************************************************** Definitely I would recommend Gottfried Bammes' Anatomy, Barcsay's Anatomy and David Downton's illustrations that you will find here: http://www.daviddownton.com/ and here: http://instagram.com/daviddownton 5. How long have you been drawing? ****************************************************** 30 years ago some desperate parents interdicted their 3 years old child to use pencils to draw on their house's inner walls :). Due to this, and to the fact that all pencils, brushes and markers were forbidden, the child found another way to express: all chocolate received was hidden and used to "decorate" the walls when all other tools were not available.30 years later, here I am, willing to tell a story on every wall there is. Not with chocolate, like I used to :), but in watercolors, as you can find on my shop here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/bijuterra. Thank you, and hope to enjoy my illustrations and videos from your comfortable armchair, having a cup of warm milk in your hand and smiling. 6. How can I send my drawing to you? ****************************************************** For any personal advice you can send me your illustrations or questions here: [email protected] and I will reply. Thank you! 7. How to Trace a Photograph | Fashion Sketching

03:48
Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501933-How-to-Trace-a-Photograph-Fashion-Sketching Learn how to trace a photograph from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. This is how you trace a photograph. It's actually a handy tool if you're not the best sketcher, if you want some strange body position, what have you. Find a pose that I like, and something that's very important in this process is tracing paper, nice and sheer, comes in all sorts of weight, etc. All right, here we go. You get your tracing paper centered beautifully over your photograph, and of course you're going to need your mechanical pencil, because you're going to make a mistake, who knows, you want to be able to erase it. So you want to start out by just concentrating on the silhouette. Use your pencil, you can erase it if you mess up, it's a great thing. And, you know, you're just worrying about silhouette right now, you could always go back in and do the details later. I pick this particular pose because she is doing something very unusual with her body, and it's probably the ones that you'll want to trace, you know. I want to trace something interesting. I don't know how I feel about her sweater, so I'm just going to eliminate her sweater altogether and go with her arms. So basically you want to take from this her body silhouette. It's almost like you're looking through with x-ray vision and see what her body's doing underneath. It's a good way to like study how the body bends and moves, and it will give you some versatility to your sketching. Here's her neck, her ear, face at a really strange angle, which is cool. And you know you can always go in later and do all your shading, but right now we're just going to worry about just tracing the photograph. And if you really just want to trace the outfit itself, you can do that too. I'll just go ahead and trace what she has on. But as I said, I'm not a big fan of the sweater, so we're going to ignore the sweater. I'm just going to do her in a short little dress she's got on. I'm going to add some of my own design elements because I'm not thrilled with this design. This is also just a great way to build your sketching skills, because it gets you really comfortable with a pencil, you know, it just gets your hand into the motion of doing all of this. I'm even going to draw her shoes, because her shoes are pretty fabulous. I give her her sunglasses, her nose, which is almost strange when I took the tracing paper off, but you go back in and fix all your details later. Every once in a while you lift the tracing paper off the page, just to see if you've missed any elements. All right, so now we can pull it all off, and this is how you trace a photograph. It's a great way to get really comfortable with a pencil, or create a new fashion croquis.

What Supplies Will You Need? | Fashion Sketching

Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501964-What-Supplies-Will-You-Need-Fashion-Sketching Learn what supplies you'll need for fashion design drawing from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. Supplies for fashion design. There are so many supplies out there that you could choose from. The best way to go about it is to systematically try different things. You need your mechanical pencils. They're very important. Different level leads, as far as hardness is concerned. You need to have a beautiful pen that you feel really comfortable drawing with. From there you could start to explore how you're going to color in your fashion illustrations. Whether you want to use pastels. Whether you want to use watercolor, gouache. Whether you want to use colored pencils. I can go, there's many other mediums out there. But, what's most important is to find a medium that you're most comfortable with. And to work with it to the best of your ability. There's all sorts of other tools that you're gonna need. You're gonna need a good smudger, good smudging stick. It's how you create all your shading. You're going to need a great eraser. Because, lord knows, you're gonna make mistakes. And that doesn't matter, you can just erase it. White out is a great tool for finishing sketches. There's all sorts of things. Just really have fun with it and really get comfortable with using your tools. So play around. Experiment. Play around with different kinds of paper. There's marker paper. There's all sorts of vellums. Etcetera, etcetera. You could even use cheap, printer paper if you want. That's a great thing to just practice on. So those are pretty much all the supplies you need to create a fashion portfolio.

How to Add Color, Texture & Shadows | Fashion Sketching

04:08
Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501940-How-to-Add-Color-Texture-and-Shadows-Fashion-Sketching Learn how to add color, texture, and shadows to a fashion sketch from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. This is how you indicate color, texture and pattern. I prefer to use colored pencils, they're great because you can get all sorts of harder lines and what not, and then you can smudge it all over the place to give yourself more depth and shadow. So I’m going to go with these three colors, different shades of blue for this dress, and just start of really, really light. I’m going to connect my colors across giving a beautiful butterfly inspired design. And I’m going to go in with another color. And this particular dress is going to be made out of a very smooth mesh, so the texture itself that I’m trying to accomplish here is something that is just smooth, and just not too textured. So that’s a challenge in itself but it seems like it’s working out for me. After you’ve done all of your light shading, I think I’m going to leave some panels of white in there, which will look cool. Now you go back in and you do harder lines wherever you think there should be a shadow. And usually if you’re doing a dead on sketch, somebody that is facing dead on to you, all the shadows are going to be on the sides of their body, et cetera, et cetera. You can create a source of light if you want, but pretty much it’s like looking in the mirror, and take a look at yourself and where the shadows fall on your body. Don’t worry about these hard lines that you’re making because you go in later with your smudge stick, which is a wonderful thing, everyone should have a smudge stick, and blend all of this together. And you want to kind of like, anything that's falling to the back of your design, you want to give it a little bit more color, because that’s just saying it’s in the back and it’s shadowing it more. So I think I’m going to keep that white in there. So now I’m going to go in with my smudge stick handy dandy, and now you want to blend. You don’t want to mix your colors, so if you get too much of a blue in one corner of your smudge stick, you can chop it off, you can do all kinds of things. But I’m just going to rotate it and do it with a purple with that, which I got to do a little bit more purple shading here. I’m losing my shading. And now as the final step, just to indicate that this is mesh, I’m going to go over certain sections of the garment and just kind of create a meshy pattern. You don’t have to cover the entire thing, it’s just to get a notion of what is the fabric choice. I’m doing it on the white sections because it will show up the best. And that’s how you indicate color, shadow and texture.

6. What materials do you use for your drawings? I use Copic Ciao markers and Touch Twin Markers, Quill Multiboard white paper, 2B and HB Pentel and Faber-Castell 0.5 mechanical pencils and Faber-Castell PVC-Free Space Eraser (Cool name) and I use Uni-ball Signo white fineliner 2. Did you go to any art school or academy? No. I am taking Studio Arts in senior high school right now. It's not from that class that I learned what I know. I am learning new things from the class, but so far, not to do with fashion illustration or manga drawings. I go to a regular high school, so it doesn't specialize in art. 3. How do you draw the models? Do you use any templates? I started out by tracing models from magazines which is harder than it sounds, but once you get the hang of it, its pretty easy. Then of course, I searched all types of videos on YouTube and some sites as well on Google, which unfortunately, I don't remember. 4. How old are you? I am now 18 years old 5. How long have you been drawing? I'm pretty sure I started drawing at 6. That's probably my oldest memory of me drawing. I got into manga drawings when I was 11 years old, I started teaching myself how to draw manga when I was 13 years old. I started developing an interest in fashion design also when I was 11, but I pursued that interest or taken it further at the age of 14. So, I would say I started drawing fashion illustration at the age of 14. 6. Where do you get your inspiration? I get my inspiration from music, photos on Instagram, fashion trends, things that I love. There are times where I am just in an Artist's Block and I feel really brain dead where I can't draw. Or I force myself to draw and it never turns out to be something I like. I am currently in an Artist's Block which has been going on since late October 2011, and I am finding ways to get out of it. I'll keep you posted on how I break through it :] 7. Do you have any links or books you can recommend? Definitely! Fashion Illustration by Anna Kiper and Fashion Poses for Fashion Illustrators by Sha Tahmasebi are two books that I own at the moment. I'm hoping to get more. These two books are very helpful if you're a beginner or even if you want to be a bit more advanced. http://www.monkeysee.com/play/5156-how-to-draw-clothes-on-a-fashion-figure this is a very basic tutorial but seriously, this tutorial helped me when I was just starting.
