Who is a Product Manager and What do they do? [Career Insights]
The role of a product manager is crucial but also one of the least understood ones. What does a product manager really do? Is he more of a data analyst? Or someone who deals with the tech aspects of product, leading the team of engineers? Or does the product manager largely concern himself/herself with user experience, design or the overall business strategy? Mind-boggling isn't it? No wonder the role is difficult to understand for most. In this video, Ravijot Chugh, Co-Founder and Product Head at UpGrad, explains in detail the various responsibilities a Product Manager has, and that you need to execute to the best of your ability to be a good PM. If you want to bag one among the thousands of highly coveted openings for Product Managers between now and 2020 (only to grow exponentially even after), you need to start upgrading your existing skills and mastering these key skills. Product Managers are often referred to as mini-CEOs of the product. This is why, at tech companies, startups and large MNCs that are now diversifying, alike, the role of Product Managers is lucrative and one of the most important in the organization. Outsider Insight: Mike Vernal "How to build your product sense"
Where does product sense come from? Mike Vernal, a partner at Sequoia, reveals the surprising value of long-term holdouts in building your product intuition. About Sequoia The Sequoia team helps a small number of daring founders build legendary companies. We spur them to push the boundaries of what’s possible. In partnering with Sequoia, companies benefit from our unmatched community and the lessons we’ve learned over 40 years working with Steve Jobs, Larry Ellison, John Morgridge, Jerry Yang, Elon Musk, Larry Page, Jan Koum, Brian Chesky, Drew Houston, Adi Tatarko and Jack Dorsey, among many others. In aggregate, Sequoia-backed companies account for more than 20% of NASDAQ’s total value. We’re proud that their success also fuels great causes. The vast majority of money we invest is on behalf of non-profits and schools like the Ford Foundation, Mayo Clinic and MIT, which means that the returns generated from the incredible achievements of founders can make a massive difference. What is an Outsider Insight? If you traced a line through Sequoia’s history from Apple to Airbnb, you’d find a common trait: each founder, partner, and trusted expert in our network possesses something we call an Outsider Insight An Outsider Insight transforms the way the world looks at a problem. Sometimes the insight comes from transplanting concepts from one field into another. Other times it comes from the unique experience, background, or point of view of the individual. In all cases, we hope each Outsider Insight presented here will provide practical inspiration for the next generation of founders. Product Design - insight through observation
A short clip highlighting the importance of market research and how to obtain meaningful insight through observation in the field.
INSIGHT SELLING- What is it & how do you do it?
Unless you shine a light of insight on unrecognized value, you will be forced to follow the customer down the road of commoditization and discounting, because buyers lack the time and expertise to fully appreciate the value of your complex product. However, if you shine the light of insight directly on how a customer isn’t doing something well today, they may feel under attack, become offended, and shut down. A story, however, simply presents a scenario about someone else, and leaves it up to the customer to form their own conclusion. Without feeling attacked, the customer can now relax and listen to your customer story, and if it’s insightful enough, they may start to tell themselves a new story where new choices make more sense. And in Gartner's recent survey of executive buyers, 70% said that was the best way for salespeople to provide differentiation that they trust is by sharing customer stories.

What makes a truly great logo
Here's how a simple mark ends up meaning something big as a great logo. Joe Posner, and Michael Bierut (designer of the Hillary Clinton logo) explain. For more from Michael Bierut on graphic design, check out his book "How to use graphic design to sell things, explain things, make things look better, make people laugh, cry, and (every once in a while) change the world": http://www.amazon.com/How-Michael-Bierut/dp/0062413902 Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO About once a month, there's a new logo to fight about on the internet. The biggest one in recent memory was the highly controversial Hillary Clinton logo, which did not escape scrutiny from Vox.com either. But as a designer/filmmaker, something about these repeated discussions struck me as missing the point on what makes logos tick. It often has little to do with the subjective musings. So I called up Michael Bierut, the designer of that Hillary Clinton logo and countless others. He sat down with me and helped explain the elements of a great logo in the video above. Stoichiometry is founded on the law of conservation of mass where the total mass of the reactants equals the total mass of the products leading to the insight that the relations among quantities of reactants and products typically form a ratio of positive integers. This means that if the amounts of the separate reactants are known, then the amount of the product can be calculated. Conversely, if one reactant has a known quantity and the quantity of product can be empirically determined, then the amount of the other reactants can also be calculated.... Here, one molecule of methane reacts with two molecules of oxygen gas to yield one molecule of carbon dioxide and two molecules of water. Stoichiometry measures these quantitative relationships, and is used to determine the amount of products/reactants that are produced/needed in a given reaction. Describing the quantitative relationships among substances as they participate in chemical reactions is known as reaction stoichiometry. In the example above, reaction stoichiometry measures the relationship between the methane and oxygen as they react to form carbon dioxide and water. Because of the well known relationship of moles to atomic weights, the ratios that are arrived at by stoichiometry can be used to determine quantities by weight in a reaction described by a balanced equation. This is called composition stoichiometry. Gas stoichiometry deals with reactions involving gases, where the gases are at a known temperature, pressure, and volume and can be assumed to be ideal gases. For gases, the volume ratio is ideally the same by the ideal gas law, but the mass ratio of a single reaction has to be calculated from the molecular masses of the reactants and products. In practice, due to the existence of isotopes, molar masses are used instead when calculating the mass ratio." Wikipedia contributors. "Stoichiometry." Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia. Insight: Ideas for Change - Open Innovation - Henry Chesbrough
http://www.weforum.org/ Not all the smart people work for your company. Henry Chesbrough explains how corporations can all benefit from open innovation. This is true both from the outside in -- leveraging external ideas and technology to reduce costs and time spent in research and, more crucially, from inside out, making unused innovations more accessible to external users. To fully embrace open innovation, organizations need a change in mindsets and an acceptance that we live in a world of abundance of knowledge. It is possible to protect the original investors in research and development while still maximizing the fruits of this knowledge.

Consumer Observation for Writing an insight – Mat Shore Innovation
How should I structure a written insight well some companies write a single solitary sentence adding one ingredient to a ready meal is considered cooking “obesity is the fastest-growing health problem in India”. The problem is these single sentences tend to be generic. They're non-competitive just facts and we also don't know why they are happening an insight requires Eureka moment some discovery or greater understanding. Now other companies write pages and pages of stuff that mix a multitude of issues together in one complex story and call that an insight but these long stories lack focus and no one bothers to read them experience of testing thousands of insights over a decade as shown. There is a proven way to write insights that test better they need to be four things clear relevant interesting and actionable firstly we need to take our basic building blocks those observations trends and patterns of behavior of our customer but then we need to synthesize the major themes into insights by adding the motivation behind the activity adding the why to the what and then we need to write the insight into a single paragraph that summarizes the situation what is the customer trying to achieve the dilemma the friction trade-off or barrier stopping them achieving it and the perfect situation. How the customer would like the world to look and test show that if the whole thing is written from the customers perspective in the first person starting with I think they are more likely to relate to it and it will test better. So let's see an example these are observations I have small children My partner is often away he claims not to hear the children during the night children always wake me up they cut into that first deep sleep I want to get good quality sleep now let's look at it all together as a single well-written insight.
