7 Mysterious UNDERWATER Cities

09:10
7 Submerged Cities and Settlements From mysterious building found at the bottom of a lake left for centuries to cities which were only previously thought to exist in the realms of fantasy to a...Russian Atlantis these are 7 Underwater Cities. Audio production provided by JaM Advertising www.tasteofjam.com Fuxian Lake is a 212sq km body of water which stretches over three separate counties in southwest China, and for centuries locals who lived on its shores told of the strange sights they had witnessed within its waters. For centuries many believed the ancient city of Heracleion was a myth, consigned to the realms of fantasy along with Atlantis, Valhalla, and wherever the little Mermaid lived. Heracleion was mentioned in the works of the Greek historian Herodotus as somewhere visited by Helen of Troy, but in Greek mythology she was the daughter of Zeus, so this didn’t really help lend the city an air of credibility. Whilst some of the cities on this list were mysteriously lost to the ocean deep, we know exactly what happened to the Chinese city of Shicheng – the government flooded it on purpose in 1959. At nearly 5000 years old the city of Pavlopetri is the oldest underwater settlement humanity has ever discovered, and after sinking sometime around 1000BC these aquatic ruins provide a fascinating snapshot into stone-age life. Phanagoria was a huge Greek city located in modern-day Russia’s Krasnodar Krai region, and whilst some of its ruins can be found on land, approximately a third can be found at the bottom of the Black Sea. An old Welsh legend tells the story of a legendary 6th Century Prince known as Helip ap Glanawg whose kingdom straddled much of modern-day North Wales. The tales mention how Helip had a giant palace built in the area today known as Conwy Bay, but it was destroyed after a storm struck the area and it became flooded by the sea, completely submerging both the palace and surrounding city. Remember how we said Pavlopetri was the oldest known underwater city? Well technically it still is, but only because archaeologists are still arguing over the age of another submerged city found in India’s Gulf of Cambay.

Why Countries Are Landlocked + Canals

06:30
Why are some countries landlocked? In the case of Bolivia its because they lost a war with Chile. Ethiopia and Serbia granted independence to the parts of their countries that had a coast. Some countries like uzbekistan, are so far inland that they are doubly landlocked, which means they are both landlocked and completely surrounded by other landlocked countries. When a country is landlocked it can be difficult for them to trade, and they often have to rely on their neighbours. In Europe, the danube river lets many landlocked countries have some access to the black sea. As well, many canals exist which lets small ships travel deep inland, providing some of the benefits of having a coast. Some countries may look landlocked, but when viewed closely you can see they have tiny coasts. You can watch this video I made which explores the weird borders in those situations: https://youtu.be/elybAzSVSHc

Sochi (Russia) Travel - Maritime Terminal

00:58
Take a tour of Sochi Maritime Terminal in Sochi, Russia -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. Sochi, on the coast of the Black Sea, is one of the warmer Russian cities. It's a beautiful place and an important spot for naval trade and traffic. It was, in part, to celebrate this fact that the Sochi Maritime Terminal was built in 1955. The terminal's key feature is its tall spire, nearly 235 feet tall. It also has four statues built around the tower, one for each of the cardinal directions. Located right on the water, the Sochi Maritime Terminal is a key landmark for the city.

The company accounts for over 3.6% of Russia's GDP and handles 39% of the total freight traffic (including pipelines) and more than 42% of passenger traffic.[212] The total length of common-used railway tracks exceeds 85,500 km (53,127 mi),[212] second only to the United States. Over 44,000 km (27,340 mi) of tracks are electrified,[213] which is the largest number in the world, and additionally there are more than 30,000 km (18,641 mi) of industrial non-common carrier lines. Railways in Russia, unlike in the most of the world, use broad gauge of 1,520 mm (4 ft 11 27⁄32 in), with the exception of 957 km (595 mi) on Sakhalin island using narrow gauge of 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in). The most renown railway in Russia is Trans-Siberian (Transsib), spanning a record 7 time zones and serving the longest single continuous services in the world, Moscow-Vladivostok (9,259 km (5,753 mi)), Moscow–Pyongyang (10,267 km (6,380 mi))[214] and Kiev–Vladivostok (11,085 km (6,888 mi)).[215] As of 2006 Russia had 933,000 km of roads, of which 755,000 were paved.[216] Some of these make up the Russian federal motorway system. With a large land area the road density is the lowest of all the G8 and BRIC countries.[217] Much of Russia's inland waterways, which total 102,000 km (63,380 mi), are made up of natural rivers or lakes. In the European part of the country the network of channels connects the basins of major rivers. Russia's capital, Moscow, is sometimes called "the port of the five seas", because of its waterway connections to the Baltic, White, Caspian, Azov and Black Seas. Yamal, one of Russia's nuclear-powered icebreakers [218] Major sea ports of Russia include Rostov-on-Don on the Azov Sea, Novorossiysk on the Black Sea, Astrakhan and Makhachkala on the Caspian, Kaliningrad and St Petersburg on the Baltic, Arkhangelsk on the White Sea, Murmansk on the Barents Sea, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Vladivostok on the Pacific Ocean. In 2008 the country owned 1,448 merchant marine ships. The world's only fleet of nuclear-powered icebreakers advances the economic exploitation of the Arctic continental shelf of Russia and the development of sea trade through the Northern Sea Route between Europe and East Asia.

Top 10 Largest Cities or Towns of Abkhazia

01:01
Thanks for watching...... 1) Sukhumi 2) Gagra 3) Gali 4) Gudauta 5) New Athos 6) Ochamchira 7) Pitsunda 8) Tkvarcheli 9) Bzyb 10) Ilori Abkhazia is a disputed territory and partially recognized state controlled by a separatist government on the eastern coast of the Black Sea and the south-western flank of the Caucasus. Abkhazia considers itself an independent state, called the Republic of Abkhazia or Apsny. This status is recognised by Russia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Nauru, and also by the partially recognised state of South Ossetia, and the unrecognised Transnistria and Nagorno-Karabakh. The Georgian government and the majority of the world's governments consider Abkhazia a part of Georgia's territory, though Georgia is not in control of it. Under Georgia's official designation it is an autonomous republic, called the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, whose government sits in exile in Tbilisi. The status of Abkhazia is a central issue of the Georgian--Abkhazian conflict. The wider region formed part of the Soviet Union until 1991. As the Soviet Union began to disintegrate towards the end of the 1980s, ethnic tensions grew between the Abkhaz and Georgians over Georgia's moves towards independence. This led to the 1992--1993 War in Abkhazia that resulted in a Georgian military defeat, de facto independence of Abkhazia and the mass exodus and ethnic cleansing of the Georgian population from Abkhazia. In spite of the 1994 ceasefire agreement and years of negotiations, the status dispute has not been resolved, and despite the long-term presence of a United Nations monitoring force and a Russian-dominated Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) peacekeeping operation, the conflict has flared up on several occasions. In August 2008, the sides again fought during the South Ossetia War, which was followed by the formal recognition of Abkhazia by Russia, the annulment of the 1994 ceasefire agreement and the termination of the UN and OSCE missions. On 28 August 2008, the Parliament of Georgia passed a resolution declaring Abkhazia a Russian-occupied territory. A major part of international community considers Abkhazia to be occupied by Russian military. Russia does not allow the EUMM monitors to enter Abkhazia. Abkhazia, Transnistria, Nagorno-Karabakh, and South Ossetia are post-Soviet "frozen conflict" zones. These four states maintain friendly relations with each other and form the Community for Democracy and Rights of Nations. Between the 9th and 6th centuries BC, the territory of modern Abkhazia was part of the ancient Georgian kingdom of Colchis ("Kolkha"). This kingdom was subsequently absorbed in 63 BC into the Kingdom of Egrisi, known to Byzantine Roman sources as "Lazica". Between 1000 and 550 BC, Greeks established trade colonies along the coast of the Black Sea, in particular at Pitiunt and Dioscurias, which was to become the capital of modern day Abkhazia. They encountered local warlike tribes who they called Heniochi.[citation needed] Classical authors described various peoples living in the region and the great multitude of languages they spoke. Arrian, Pliny and Strabo have given accounts of the Abasgoi (generally considered ancestors of the modern Abkhazians) and Moschoi (generally considered as ancestors of Georgian Meskhetians) peoples somewhere in modern Abkhazia on the eastern shore of the Black Sea. The Roman Empire conquered Egrisi in the 1st century AD and ruled it until the 4th century, following which it regained a measure of independence, but remained within the Byzantine Empire's sphere of influence. Although the exact time when the population of the region of Abkhazia was converted to Christianity has not been determined, it is known that the Metropolitan of Pitius participated in the First Ecumenical Council in 325 in Nicaea. Video of Deadly Flood in Southern Russia

03:15
Video of Deadly Flood in Southern Russia The worst flooding in decades in southern Russia's Krasnodar Region, near the Black Sea, has killed at least 152 people and damaged over 5,000 homes. Authorities have pledged to help survivors and compensate them for lost houses and belongings. ¬The natural disaster's official death toll has reached 152 people, the Interior Ministry reports. Due to the severity of the event, there is a strong possibility that that number will rise. Most of the casualties occurred in Krymsk, an inland town hit the worst by the disaster. There were also reports of deaths and substantial damage in the coastal cities of Gelendzhik and Novorossiysk. The disaster has wrecked the lives of more than 12,000 people who have lost their loved ones or seen their homes severely damaged or destroyed. The flash flood inundated the cities of Gelendzhik, Krymsk and Novorossiysk as well as the four villages of Divnomorskoe, Nizhnebakanskaya, Neberdzhaevskaya and Kabardinka. Over 5,000 houses were damaged by the flood waters, Krasnodar Governor Aleksandr Tkachev said. In Krymsk alone, the Emergencies Ministry says around 4,600 households were inundated. In Kuban over 250 houses were completely destroyed. Thus far over 2,800 people have been evacuated from flood-hit areas in Krasnodar by local authorities working in conjunction with rescue workers from Russia's Emergencies Ministry. Around 30,000 people have been deprived of electricity in the region after power outages occurred in seven towns, said Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations. Additionally, over 80 percent of the population of Krymsk is now without gas. President Vladimir Putin surveyed the area by helicopter, and met with local and federal authorities to address the aftermath of the tragedy. Putin stated that every family affected by the disaster will receive 150,000 rubles (about $4,600) as compensation, the president's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. Initial transfers of ten thousand rubles are to be delivered to the victims as early as Monday. Two million rubles (about $61,000) will be paid to every family that lost a relative in the flooding. The state will also pay for the restoration of homes damaged by the disaster. The spending is to be equally distributed between the federal and regional budgets. Local authorities estimate the total damages to the region at over one billion rubles ($30 million). Putin also stressed the need to provide shelter, food and clothing for those displaced by the flooding. Internet activists have also started a campaign to collect money for people injured or displaced by the flooding. A group of volunteers is preparing to go to the region to help out those in need. Chances of continued flooding and new damage and casualties remain high, as more heavy rain is expected to hit the area Sunday. 5 Mysterious Things Found in Siberia

10:37
Siberian, in Russia, stretches west to east from the Ural Mountains to the North pacific ocean, and from north to south from the Ural Mountains to Mongolia. That's 3500 miles by 2100 miles. It covers 10% of the earth’s land mass and is completely covered by snow from November through to February. Although large parts of Siberia are populated by humans, there is a huge radius which remains desolate. Obviously, a large chunk of land, which is rarely visited over thousands or even millions of years, must yield some interesting long lost artefacts or remains. Here are five amazing Siberian finds. - - - - - - - I appreciate all the support I get from my subscribers through sharing, comments and likes. W/S Russian navy ship sailing SCRIPT Russia: Suprise military exercise ordered by Putin in the Black Sea Around 7000 troops and 36 ships are currently taking part in a military exercise in Russia controlled area of the Black Sea and other locations on a ground. Early Thursday morning an unexpected order to start the exercise was issued by Russia's President Vladimir Putin on his flight back from BRICS summit in Durban, South Africa. Russia's defence minister Sergei Shoigu was in charge of immediate reaction to the order. Navy ships were launched from the Russian Black Sea Fleet's base in the Ukrainian city of Sevastopol and also the Russian port of Novorossiisk. Air forces, paratroopers and special forces were mobilised along with the navy in three different points in Russia. Surprise military exercise ought to test Russian military's readiness in case an unexpected attack is launched against the country. The exercise did not violate international law, according to which military training involving no more than 7.000 people does not have to be announced in advance. The littoral states of the Black Sea include Turkey, Ukraine and Georgia. The military training comes as a part of restructurisation program aiming to advance Russian military forces after they showed weakness in the war with Georgia in August 2008. Similar military exercise was previously ordered in February this year being a first unplanned inspection of military forces in past twenty years.

Moscow shivers, but it's beach time on the Black Sea

01:06
http://www.euronews.com/ With a month of snow falling in just 24 hours spring still seems far away for Moscow residents. It is the heaviest March snowfall in 50 years which, even for a city used to winter extremes, is proving tiresome for residents. However for some, it is no big deal. Try living in Siberia, for example, said one man: "You haven't seen our winter! It is very snowy, with snowdrifts higher than a man. This snowfall isn't serious for us. We will definitely survive it." Back in his home region Krasnoyarsk had half a metre of snow. "We had lots of snow overnight. Snow-covered cars were stuck on the roadside," said one man brandishing a large shovel. But in Tomsk it was a positively balmy four degrees, bringing problems of its own, with flooding. Such is Russia's size there is a lot of weather about, and it changes constantly. Near the Black Sea it is 25 degrees, with everything bursting into blossom. The total territory is about 1,361 sq mi and the city sprawls for 90 mi along the shore. For a long time Sochi was mostly known as a beach resort and was even called “the summer capital of Russia”. Today the city is a developing center of ski tourism, and also promotes itself as a venue for major sports and business events.

Why Istanbul Is The Most Strategically Important City In The World

03:41
Istanbul is the most strategically important city in the world. It's located on one of the busiest waterways in the world, the Bosporus straight, which links the Black Sea with the Mediterranean, and a land route between Europe and Asia. Notes about the names of Istanbul: During the Ottoman Empire, the people of the city would call it Istanbul, while the government still referred to the city as the Turkish variant of Constantinople. The city's official name was not changed to Istanbul until Turkey became a republic. Byzantium was refereed to as the New Rome until after emperor Constantine's death, when it became Constantinople. BLACK SEA AFFAIR TRAILER

01:03
It starts with a high-stakes theft: weapons-grade plutonium is stolen from Russia. The Russian army is about to attack Chechnya to get it back. But U.S. intelligence discovers that the stolen shipment is actually on a rogue Russian freighter in the Black Sea. It turns into a global nightmare: a secret mission gone awry; an American submarine commander arrested and hauled before a military tribunal in Moscow; and a game of brinksmanship so dangerous that war might be its only possible conclusion. As the U.S. Navy searches for weapons-grade plutonium that has been smuggled out of Russia by terrorists, a submarine mishap escalates the international crisis. With the world watching, JAG Officer Zack Brewer is called to Moscow to defend submarine skipper Pete Miranda and his entire crew. It is a heart-stopping race against the clock. With Russian missiles activated and programmed for American cities, Brewer stalls for time as the U.S. Navy frantically searches the high seas for a floating hydrogen bomb that could threaten New York Harbor.
