Winter on the North Sea - Ep. 3 RAN Sailing
After three days in Cuxhaven we sail to the island Vlieland in The Netherlands. The trip is 150 nautical miles and takes 25 hours. We have a good sail with nice winds and make around 6,5 knots of speed. The weather is cold but sunny. Unfortunately we sail in to some heavy fog in the morning the next day. On Vlieland we discover the island and walk on the empty beaches and in the woods. We fly with our drone and get som nice footage and Johan makes "semlor", a Swedish pastry. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us. Ships In Storms Video Compilation [REAL FOOTAGE - HD]
Ships in storms can be so creepy to look at. Just look at those terrifying monster waves from those incredible videos. Those ships in rough seas sure look creepy. I wouldn't want to be in a ship in storm at sea.

North Sea good sailing gale hardvaer with RS 10 Christiania
Brillefin seilas med RS 10 Christiania i kuling i sørlige Nordsjø desember 2012. The Colin Archer RS 10 Christiania in good sailing gale in southern North Sea in Desember 2012. On the way from Gibraltar to Oslo. After waiting through a snowstorm in Ijmuiden port through the night, Aslaug - the ship meterologist, said the conditions should be well worth exploring just after. So even though our instincts protested in the early morning (heavy snow and wind) we prepearad and went to sea as soon as the wind started calming. It became a beatiful sailing day with SE fantastic wind and conditions, northbond along the duch coast. Yacht in Storm | Sailing Wild Waves
Yacht in Storm | Sailing Wild Waves The most common Yacht fall into storms and hurricanes in the western Atlantic. The most dangerous area is located between the sailing center of New England and Bermuda , Florida and the Caribbean. Yachtsmen from Bermuda say that in the winter in the Atlantic are found severe storms , which are no less dangerous than hurricanes . Such storms can last for three days with wind of 85 knots , which is much greater than the force of a hurricane. Yachts can not always come out unscathed from such severe storms. This storm has once again confirmed that the wind and waves to predict the hurricane force of events impossible. Sailing into Monster Storm Pacific Northwest | Heavy Weather Understanding & Fun - SV Aulani Aloha 6
Sailing solo as storm explodes early October winter storm. That shuts the West Coast down but far offshore it's not so bad except for the rough stormy seas that require a little humor. Solo sailing safely into a storm requires a wealth of wisdom regarding these monsters that run wild on the ocean. Learn and enjoy a unique experience. A mature storm is the most powerful event on this planet. Unleashing each day the equivalent of the nuclear arsenals of the US and Russia. If the energy could be harnessed during this storm's duration all the electric power needs of humanity would be met for six months. These monsters are birthed by a slight kink disturbance in the winds and barometric pressure below excited by the jet stream above. To a navigator North of the Equator we first see an "ill wind" as it backs counterclockwise across the compass. It's the first distant touch of a low pressure system going into a cyclonic spin hundreds or thousands of miles away. The mackerel sky the night prior along with the snowy white owl's visit tell the tale. The weather forecaster's storm track projections are wrong. The monster is not going to Canada it is running South to me down the West Coast to California. The "Mare's Tails" called a mackerel sky or fish scales per folklore "Makes a lofty or tall ship carry low sails or reef such in." The high cirrocumulus clouds formed by shifting wind directions and high speed winds are the tell tales of an approaching storm system. Understanding a storm is to begin to know the winds and seas of the planet. This is the breath of life. Wave heights trail wind speeds. It can take up to 3 days for storm waves to fully develop. That's the good news. The amount of wave energy rises exponentially to the 4th power. Seas from 40 knot winds are 17x more violent than 20 knot winds. I'm new to cyber space as I emerge off grid. I had no intention of creating videos initially. But I realized I needed to tell my story, share enchanting encounters with marine critters, people, isles and the ocean herself with a wealth of incredible information and inspiration not known like an uncharted island. That when known will bless, inspire and bring about conscious positive out of the box change. To make my videos thus far I pack my stuff into a Pelican case, kayak to shore often with dolphins by day and sharks by night. Starbucks is my office and my vessel is the staging grounds. Imagine what will be with upgraded gear, having some crew onboard and guests that gives some semblance of respect to the incredible beauty, sounds and adventures that await! https://www.patreon.com/oceanmaverick https://www.facebook.com/jehu.wood https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRCGVSyEhjQP5WWWF-8T25g Thanks Mate, Captain Jehoo (like Yo Hoo) episode 1 Lost to Discover → https://youtu.be/KhgCexeXQYs episode 2 Liquid Life → https://youtu.be/xV4j_FLpoXQ episode 3 Fish On → https://youtu.be/tHZf62rG7Dw episode 4 Metamorphosis→ https://youtu.be/Nd8kb4zRwzQ episode 5 Off Grid Bliss→ https://youtu.be/mD8lQxg2S_0 episode 6 The Monster Low→ https://youtu.be/79r98ESzLII episode 7 Soul Sailor→ https://youtu.be/RGGRTq0BwD8 by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Hit the Streets (Version 2) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100882 Cool Hard Facts - Exhilarate Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100280 At The Shore - The Dark Contenent Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100770

Sailing in to the North Sea - Conquering our FEARS - Ep 15
In this episode, we overcome our fears and set off in the middle of the night towards the NORTH SEA. The Elbe river showed a little of his power and made the passage the most brutal we’ve ever had. Very strong winds combined with currents, waves and giant ships, for sure it was quite an experience. After, the sailing became so good that we extended our passage further south until we reached the summer in The Hague. Join us in this episode with lots of sailing, gigantic ships, night watches and summer in Europe. We hope you enjoy it and don't forget to give us a like and subscribe. Lots of love from us!! Sailing into Monster Storm, MY STORY | Ships Heavy Weather Insights Sailing Aulani Aloha
Extreme storm - Omens Tell Tales with ships as monster storm explodes in early winter storm. West Coast shuts down with Columbia River Bar and California as Storms the freaks of nature show their power. Mature storms are the most powerful events on the planet. In one day unleashing the equivalent force of the world's nuclear arsenals. Given time these loose canons on the ocean's deck give quarter to no vessel. These sea battles never decide who's right only who's left. As sailors in little boats the size of life boats. We don't have the luxury of hiding 100' up in comfy enclosed watertight wheelhouses. Or lounges on 1,000' ships manned 24/7 on all decks. We are literally part of the storm itself. Seemingly lost in between swells dealing with the waves and ripples there. We are in the trenches battling a monster that never sees us. Even when we have crew it's most always a solo operation. How we strategically navigate prior to the monster's arrival. Then keep on thru the dark night wrestling the beast will determine just how soon and if we live to see another day. How do we get here? Over the years we get a little dinghy and go for a stroll in the Pacific Ocean. The Columbia River bar reopens after being closed to an early winter storm. At most I have a 3 day window to voyage South clearing the rugged stormy terrain of the Pacific Northwest. That's impossible. HOW TO SAIL through a STORM at SEA - Sailing Kauana Ep 17
On this episode, we go through a complicated sail all the way in to Calais, in France, right in to the English Chanel. Things get a litle more interesting as we have to wait outside the port until a swinging bridge is opened after the huge tide variation. We enjoy some French breakfast with some Nutella croissants and Larissa gets crazy feeding the seagulls. The weather was so nice that we ended up enjoying the beach and the summer for a litle longer than we should, and things got nasty the next day! We sailed out in to bad storm weather, because the forecast was underestimating things. Also in this episode… We’ll show you how to raise our sails in strong winds putting a reef in the main sail as we do it. Obviously it was all Larissa´s idea, trying to kill us getting out of the port in really bad weather! :) Lots of love from us… Cheers

Sailing the Roaring 40s in 30 foot Waves! Sailing SV Delos Ep. 107
In this episode we sail through the roaring 40s and it was crazy! Definitely the most intense part of our 3000NM passage from South Africa to La Reunion. We had wind speeds of over 50kn, 23–32ft (7–10m) waves and in the middle of everything our autopilot breaks and it’s hand steering from now on! A bit of a tester as our new crew have not hand steered before. Our whole world was getting slammed and tossed around in the waves and I think Brady described it pretty well “It feels like if your driving a car, with your eyes closed on a bumpy dirt road for days. Knowing your going to hit a tree but not knowing when you’re going to hit that tree. So all of a sudden you’re just driving and BOOM!“ Get ready for some hectic weather :D hope you Like! Sailing Nonstop Across North Sea - Ep. 13 Sailing Seefalke
In a four-day, three-night voyage, we sailed 317 nautical miles across the North Sea nonstop from Helgoland to Dunkirk. Our highs and lows were in sync with the high and low tides that make the North Sea unique . . . and dangerous. Come along for the ride! We are Maik and Michelle, two sailors from different worlds and different cultures with very different perspectives about sailing around the world together on our 43-foot, steel ketch, Seefalke. We also have different levels of sailing experience. Maik (a German) has sailed for more than 20 years, while Michelle (an American) has only been sailing five years. Our crew includes two Beagles, Cap’n Jack and Scout! Come along for the ride to follow our journey! Anatomy of Disaster - Season 2 Episode 5 - Ferocious Oceans
Witness an ocean liner ripped in half by killer waves and sail aboard a yacht tossed about on the open seas in fifty foot rollers as Anatomy of Disaster explores the origins and cycles of nature's most destructive force - the power of the ocean that drives intense storms an immense waves. Enormous energy, caused by storm winds, reverberates out across the surface of the ocean in what we experience as waves. And woe to ships or coastal residents in their paths! From an Australian sailing couple's struggle to survive a tropical storm, to an attempt to save crewmen off a cargo ship before it crashes into North Sea cliffs, Anatomy of Disaster takes us to the world's worst storms and the mariners who face them. We'll examine cyclonic storm surges, gigantic ocean rollers, and killer rogue waves. To better understand these incredible forces of nature, we'll stand onboard an oil tanker as it breaks up and then barely escape as it plunges into the depths, cling to a catamaran in a South Pacific Typhoon, and watch a ship off Mozambique sink after being hit by a rogue wave.

Life At Sea - Sailing Through Rough Weather [HD]
My first vessel, MV Ore Vitoria sailing through the Indian Ocean. This does not really look rough, but we faced heavy wind constantly from the starboard side of up to 45 kts (83 kmph) and gusts up to 60 kts (111 kmph) on that day (25th December, 2014). Notice the vessel roll smoothly (1.16 - 1.27), this is the advantage of working on a bulk carrier as the you are not easily sea sick working on a monster of this size.

#84: How to Rig Your Boat for Heavy Weather Sailing
Even after crossing the Atlantic, I still believe some of the worst wind and sea state I have faced has been in the Gulf of Mexico. As Phillip and I prepare to sail across it to Cuba this winter, we want to be ready for whatever the Gulf may dish out. That means heavy weather sail planning in the form of a strong, small storm sail, a third reef in the main, a back-up genoa, and a convertible inner forestay. Follow along as we rig our Niagara out for heavy weather offshore sailing. Only 28 days to go! Music by: www.BenSound.com, Kevin McLeod and https://www.instagram.com/arothsmusic/
