How to format a plot in Origin

14:58
Plot is a basic form of visualization and the most common type of figure used by scientists to communicate their results. There are many freeware and paid applications that may help you to quickly and easily plot any dataset. Origin (OriginLab) is one of the most popular paid graphing tool among scientists. The default plot produced by this software can convey the required information, but tend to lack style suitable for scientific publication. The following tutorial provides guidelines for how to format a plot using Origin for submission to scientific journal or other publication form. It will guide you through the whole process and provide the information you will require to properly create files for figure submission. The sequence of steps you need to go through in Origin to move from default to the final graph is the following: 1. Load data into Origin 2. Prepare the plot at full scale 3. Format axes 4. Format legend 5. Format curves 6. Rescale axes 7. Arrange plot 8. Color the graph (optional) 9. Save your artwork The above actions constitute a minimum level of effort that is required for good quality plots. The process of plot formatting requires some understanding of the figure requirements of the publisher such as plot size, resolution, font specification or file formats. Here you will find a guidance generally applicable to the preparation of artwork for publishing a journal article with leading scientific publishers http://www.keepcalmandpublishpapers.com/p/manuscript-submission-guidelines.html Software used: Origin 9.0.0, (OriginLab) 64 bit Download file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/uvbnzp7nib1n27h/tutorial%2010%20Origin%20file.opj?dl=0 1080p HD is recommended

How to Write an Abstract Step-by-Step (With Examples)

09:20
How to Write an Abstract. Once you’re done with your academic paper after months of hard work, you’ll also need to create an abstract of your paper, too. Since this writing summarizes and represents your work, you’ll want it to be picture perfect, right? Lucky for you, we’ve put together some tips on writing the best abstract, so pay close attention! TIMESTAMPS Find out the requirements 0:55 Pick the right abstract type 1:42 Consider your readers 3:27 Explain the importance of your research 4:10 Explain the problem and your methods 4:45 Avoid copy-pasting 5:19 Keep it well-structured and logical 6:15 Include key phrases and words 7:00 Sum it up 7:49 Editing and proofreading 8:18 Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY -Whether you’re writing it to apply for a conference, grant, journal publication, or work project, find out if there are any specific requirements regarding its length and style. -When it comes to abstract types, you have two options to choose from: descriptive versus informative. Normally, descriptive abstracts are written for shorter papers, and informative ones for longer more technical pieces. -Fellow scholars from the same research field will easily get the ideas and special terminology you use, while average readers or people from another scientific field probably won’t grasp complicated concepts. -As you get down to actually writing the abstract, there are four key points you wanna hit when explaining the importance of your research to your readers. -It’s really important to define the scope of your research. It’s imperative that your research has a key claim or argument, which is definitely worth mentioning in the abstract. -Your abstract should be an independent piece of writing and not a collage of disconnected paraphrased sentences. -No matter how short it has to be, your abstract should be built according to the usual essay model and have an introduction, body, and conclusion. -If you want your prospective readers to be able to find your work among millions of publications, adding 5 to 10 important key words or phrases to your abstract will certainly help. -An informative abstract should explain what answers the research helped you find and if it supported your original argument. -Check your abstract several times for grammar and spelling, and don’t forget to format it the right way. Another pair of eyes won’t hurt either. Create a Custom Number Format for a Chart Axis

03:47
Check out my Blog: http://exceltraining101.blogspot.com After you've created a chart (like a line or column chart) Excel usually give you some default format for your x or y axis.  For the most part, Excel is "guessing" your numerical or alpha values and giving it's best shot on the type of labeling for the axis.  Sometime that's acceptable but other times it just doesn't make sense.  You'd think Excel was smart enough to read your mind and figure it out for you.  We are not there yet BUT you do have the option of customized the format of the chart axis to some extent.  What kind of customization can Excel do?  Well for example you want the Y axis to have different colors at some mid-point like the axis label numbers above 100 are red colored and the ones below it are green colored.  See the video to learn how this is done. #exceltips #exceltipsandtricks #exceltutorial #doughexcel

APA Style Journal Article Reporting Standards

04:01
As part of its promotion of greater transparency and the assessment of rigor in psychological science, the American Psychological Association has released new Journal Article Reporting Standards for researchers seeking to publish in scholarly journals. The standards are specific to psychological research and offer guidelines on the information needed in a research article to ensure that the elements included are comprehensible and that the study can be replicated. The new standards: - Recommend the division of hypotheses, analyses and conclusions into primary, secondary and exploratory groupings to allow for a full understanding of quantitative analyses presented in a manuscript and enhance reproducibility. - Offer modules for authors reporting on N-of-1 design, replication, clinical trials, longitudinal studies and observational studies, as well as the analytic methods structural equation modeling and Bayesian analysis. - Address the plurality of inquiry traditions, methods and goals, providing guidance on material to include across diverse qualitative research methods. - Provide standards for reporting research using mixed-method designs, drawing on both qualitative and quantitative standards.
