Miracle of Sea cucumber

02:00
Sea cucumber has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for hundreds of years, but they are relatively obscure in the U.S. This may be soon changing, however, as evidence mounts that sea cucumber extracts can kill cancer cells while stimulating the immune system. As reported by Ethan Evers, author of “The Eden Prescription, previous research on sea cucumber has demonstrated its ability to kill lung, breast, prostate, skin, colon, pancreatic, and liver cancer cells. These extracts have also proven effective in killing leukemia and gioblastoma cells. Looks like we can add yet another food to the list of anti-cancer foods.

Why Sea Cucumbers Are Dangerous

14:01
Sea cucumbers are rather inconspicuous animals and are certainly not the most well-known sea creatures. They are nonetheless of enormous importance for the oceans and us humans. But don't get too excited because despite their harmless appearance they are actually not as safe to handle as one might think. In this video, you find out why. Sea cucumbers are echinoderms from the class Holothuroidea. They are marine animals with a leathery skin and an elongated body containing a single, branched gonad. Sea cucumbers are found on the sea floor worldwide. The number of holothurian (/ˌhɒləˈθjʊəriən, ˌhoʊ-, -ˈθʊər-/[2][3]) species worldwide is about 1,717[4] with the greatest number being in the Asia Pacific region.[5] Many of these are gathered for human consumption and some species are cultivated in aquaculture systems. The harvested product is variously referred to as trepang, bêche-de-mer or balate. Sea cucumbers serve a useful role in the marine ecosystem as they help recycle nutrients, breaking down detritus and other organic matter after which bacteria can continue the degradation process.[5] Like all echinoderms, sea cucumbers have an endoskeleton just below the skin, calcified structures that are usually reduced to isolated microscopic ossicles (or sclerietes) joined by connective tissue. In some species these can sometimes be enlarged to flattened plates, forming an armour. In pelagic species such as Pelagothuria natatrix (Order Elasipodida, family Pelagothuriidae), the skeleton is absent and there is no calcareous ring.[6] The sea cucumbers are named after their resemblance to the fruit of the cucumber plant.

Sea Cucumbers | BLUE WORLD ACADEMY

In this entertaining short video, Jonathan explains the basic biology of sea cucumbers. A sea cucumber is a relative of starfish and sea urchins contained within the phylum Echinodermata. ********************************************************************** If you like Blue World Academy, don't forget to subscribe! Virtually everyone is familiar with the sea star, an animal which is a member of the phylum of invertebrates known as Echinoderms, meaning “spiny skin.” Other Echinoderms include the sea urchins and the feather stars. The sea cucumber is another echinoderm—hard to believe since most of them don’t have very spiny skin at all. But the sea cucumbers are most closely related to sea urchins! There are over 1700 species of sea cucumbers in the world’s oceans, and it’s not hard to guess how they got their name. Most are about the size and shape of a large cucumber. But the similarity to a vegetable ends there! Sea cucumbers have tiny tube feet like sea stars and sea urchins. They can move around, albeit somewhat slowly. There are two basic ways in which sea cucumbers feed. The plankton-feeders extend feathery tentacles into the water as a net for passing plankton. The sticky tentacles gather up particles, then one by one, the sea cucumber licks the plankton off each tentacle with a centrally-located mouth. In the rich waters of New England, an Orange-footed sea cucumber feeds on plankton soup. If I tickle its tentacles, the sea cucumber withdraws them for protection. Other species of sea cucumbers feed by digging though the sediments on the sea floor looking for decaying particles. They typically eat a bunch of sand in the process, which passes completely through their digestive tract. It’s a slow process, but seen in a time lapse, a Tiger tail sea cucumber covers a lot of ground looking for food. You might think that an animal like this would be defenseless, but in fact many sea cucumbers possess a fascinating defense mechanism. When threatened, they can eject a sticky goop called cuvierian tubules to ensnare predators. Others can expel poisonous chemicals to drive predators away. As a result, very few animals will dare to attack sea cucumbers. Due to that general lack of predators, sea cucumbers make a safe home for symbiotic partners. An Emperor shrimp lives in safety on a sea cucumber and in exchange for the protection, keeps its host free of parasites. But of course, there are a few predators that can handle the sea cucumber’s defenses. In the north Pacific, Giant Sun stars will attack and eat sea cucumbers. And in the south pacific, a large snail known as a Partridge Tun specializes in eating sea cucumbers using a powerful venom to subdue its victim. The Echinoderms are a diverse and interesting group of animals, with the sea cucumber as its strangest and possibly most fascinating member.

Catch and Cook SEA CUCUMBER?? Chinese Delicacy

Went out to go fishing and decided it was time I try a sea cucumber. It turned out it wasn't actually as gross as it looks. The muscles on the inside tasted good, however the texture of the skin was not my favourite. Probably more of an acquired taste. Got the idea from my friend James Zhang,' Check out his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCO_tVKxpAj6aRLeJ-NH9CDA

Sea Cucumber Found only in salt water, more than a thousand species of sea cucumbers exist around the world. These squishy invertebrates are echinoderms, making them distant relatives to starfish and urchins. Unlike starfish or sea urchins, the bodies of sea cucumbers are covered with soft, leathery skin instead of hard spines. If you ever encounter a sea cuke and it feels threatened, you could be in for a surprise. Some sea cucumbers shoot sticky threads at their enemies, entangling and confusing predators. Others can violently contract their muscles and shoot some of their internal organs out of their rear ends. The missing body parts are quickly regenerated. Most sea cucumbers are scavengers, moving along the seafloor and feeding on tiny particles of algae or microscopic marine animals collected with tube feet that surround their mouths. The particles they grind down to smaller pieces are further broken down by bacteria and become part of the ocean’s nutrient cycle. This is a similar role to that which earthworms perform on land.

Sea Cucumber – A New Hope In The Fight Against Cancer!

03:24
Sea cucumber is a marine animal that can fight cancer and inhibits its growth. According to a recent research, sea cucumber extract can kill 95% of breast cancer cells in in vitro experiments. It also killed 90% of melanoma cells, 95% of liver cancer cells and 88% of lung cancer cells. Sea cucumber extract can strengthen the immune system and improve its ability to fight cancer while inhibiting vital metastasis processes. “Although this is new for western medicine, sea cucumber has been used in Chinese medicine for centuries,” Ethan Evers, author of the book “The Eden Prescription” explains. An older research has proven that sea cucumber is a powerful tool against pancreatic, lung, prostate, colon, breast, skin and liver cancer, as well as against melanoma and glioblastoma. Scientists have identified triterpenoid as the main anticancer agent in sea cucumber. Sea Cucumber Soup (Exotic Chinese Cooking)

03:28
This recipe is for sea cucumber soup. Sea cucumber is an ocean creature that has the shape of the vegetable cucumber. This sea cucumber soup is delicious, made with chicken, Chinese mushrooms, garlic and ginger. Sea cucumbers cost between $30 to $100 a lb., so you can save a lot of money making this delicious and healthy soup. Enjoy! Check out the recipe below: Chinese Sea Cucumber Soup 6 small sea cucumbers 1/4 chicken 5 to 6 slices ginger (2tablespoons) 6 to 8 cloves garlic 3 cups water 1 teaspoon salt Soak 6 small sea cucumbers in water for 1 day. Split the sea cucumbers length wise and scrape out the guts with a knife. Also scrape the surface of the sea cucumbers with a knife. Put the sea cucumbers in a container for 10 days, rinsing them and changing the water every day. On the day of making the soup, give the sea cucumbers one last rinse. Cut them length wise and then quarter them. Cut the chicken into bite size pieces and include the bones for the soup. Cut the skin from the ginger and cut into small pieces. Remove skin from garlic and leave them in fairly large pieces. Measure 3 cups of water in a soup pot and bring to a boil. Put the chicken, ginger and garlic into the pot. Cover with a lid and cook soup for 30 minutes at medium heat. The cooking time for sea cucumber varies. These small sea cucumbers take between 20 to 30 minutes cooking time. Large sea cucumbers may take much longer to cook. Just before serving this soup, add the salt. I hope you enjoy this soup. It's suppose to be good for you too.

Sea Cucumber expelling its intestines

00:46
As a defense mechanism a sea cucumber will shoot part of its resperatory system out of its body when bothered. Fish will go after the guts and give the cucumber time to scoot away and live another day. Our dive guide, unprompted, poked the cucumber a bit to demonstrate. Since nothing was around to eat its guts, it quickly sucked them back in. Kind of gross but fascinating, and not harmful to the sea cucumber in the end. A very alien world down under the sea, especially at night. NOTE: I did not touch this sea cucumber, nor ever ask our Japanese dive guide to do so (I doubt this is something that would be tolerated by Western divers, and dive guides in the US would never do such a thing, but maybe in remote parts of Japan they have a different relationship with sea creatures?). I would never bother an animal like this, but it happened quickly, underwater had no easy way to communicate with the dive guide, and it was pretty fascinating.

Sea Cucumber

01:43
Sea cucumbers are found on the sea floor worldwide. There are a number of holothurian species and genera, many of which are targeted for human consumption. The harvested product is variously referred to as trepang, bêche-de-mer or balate. Sea cucumbers are echinoderms from the class Holothuroidea. They are marine animals with a leathery skin and an elongated body containing a single, branched gonad. A remarkable feature of these animals is the catch collagen that forms their body wall. In more shallow waters, sea cucumbers can form dense populations. This footage is part of the professionally-shot stock footage archive of Wilderness Films India Ltd., the largest collection of imagery from South Asia. The Wilderness Films India collection comprises of thousands of hours of high quality broadcast imagery, mostly shot on HDCAM 1080i High Definition, HDV and Digital Betacam. A sea cucumber forages the coral sands beside the Galle Fort reef. Sea cucumbers are echinoderms from the class Holothuroidea. They are marine animals with a leathery skin and an elongated body containing a single, branched gonad. Sea cucumbers are found on the sea floor worldwide. There are a number of holothurian ( /ˌhɒləʊˈθjʊəriən/) species and genera, many of which are targeted for human consumption. The harvested product is variously referred to as trepang, bêche-de-mer or balate. Like all echinoderms, sea cucumbers have an endoskeleton just below the skin, calcified structures that are usually reduced to isolated microscopic ossicles (or sclerietes) joined by connective tissue. In some species these can sometimes be enlarged to flattened plates, forming an armour. In pelagic species such as Pelagothuria natatrix (Order Elasipodida, family Pelagothuriidae), the skeleton and a calcareous ring are absent.Sea cucumbers communicate with each other by sending hormone signals through the water.A remarkable feature of these animals is the catch collagen that forms their body wall. This can be loosened and tightened at will, and if the animal wants to squeeze through a small gap, it can essentially liquefy its body and pour into the space. To keep itself safe in these crevices and cracks, the sea cucumber hooks up all its collagen fibres to make its body firm again. Some species of coral-reef sea cucumbers within the order Aspidochirotida can defend themselves by expelling their sticky cuvierian tubules (enlargements of the respiratory tree that float freely in the coelom) to entangle potential predators. When startled, these cucumbers may expel some of them through a tear in the wall of the cloaca in an autotomic process known as evisceration. Replacement tubules grow back in one-and-a-half to five weeks, depending on the species. The release of these tubules can also be accompanied by the discharge of a toxic chemical known as holothurin, which has similar properties to soap. This chemical can kill any animal in the vicinity and is one more way in which these sedentary animals can defend themselves. They can be found in great numbers on the deep sea floor, where they often make up the majority of the animal biomass. At depths deeper than 5.5 mi (8.8 km), sea cucumbers comprise 90% of the total mass of the macrofauna.Sea cucumbers form large herds that move across the bathygraphic features of the ocean, hunting food. The body of some deep water holothurians is made of a tough gelatinous tissue with unique properties that makes the animals able to control their own buoyancy, making it possible for them to either live on the ocean floor or to float over it to move to new locations with a minimum of energy, for instance Enypniastes eximia, Peniagone leander and Paelopatides confundens.Sea cucumbers are typically 10 to 30 centimetres (3.9 to 12 in) in length, although the smallest known species is just 3 millimetres (0.12 in) long, and the largest can reach 1 metre (3.3 ft). The body ranges from almost spherical to worm-like, and lacks the arms found in many other echinoderms, such as starfishes. The anterior end of the animal, containing the mouth, corresponds to the oral pole of other echinoderms (which, in most cases, is the underside), while the posterior end, containing the anus, corresponds to the aboral pole. Thus, compared with other echinoderms, sea cucumbers can be said to be lying on their side.(wikipedia)

HD 720p Snorkeling Hurghada, Egypt - SPOTTED WORM SEA CUCUMBER Synapta Maculata Sea cucumbers are echinoderms from the class Holothuroidea. They are marine animals with a leathery skin and an elongated body containing a single, branched gonad. Sea cucumbers are found on the sea floor worldwide. The number of holothurian species worldwide is about 1,717 with the greatest number being in the Asia Pacific region. Many of these are gathered for human consumption and some species are cultivated in aquaculture systems. The harvested product is variously referred to as trepang, bêche-de-mer or balate. Sea cucumbers serve a useful role in the marine ecosystem as they help recycle nutrients, breaking down detritus and other organic matter after which bacteria can continue the degradation process. Like all echinoderms, sea cucumbers have an endoskeleton just below the skin, calcified structures that are usually reduced to isolated microscopic ossicles (or sclerietes) joined by connective tissue. In some species these can sometimes be enlarged to flattened plates, forming an armour. In pelagic species such as Pelagothuria natatrix (Order Elasipodida, family Pelagothuriidae), the skeleton is absent and there is no calcareous ring. The sea cucumbers are named after their resemblance to the vegetable cucumber and this one, Synapta maculata, resembles a worm quite closely. - Wikipedia HD 720p Snorkeling Hurghada, Egypt - SPOTTED WORM SEA CUCUMBER Synapta Maculata

Magnum Sea Cucumber @ Lembeh Strait

00:57
Also known as Echinoderms, Burrowing Sea Cucumber and Sea Basket Sea Cucumber. Found singly buried in the sand of shallow waters on sand and rubble areas. They feed on plankton. Length - 30cm Depth - 0-40m Widespread Indo-Pacific When feeding they fan out their "arms" and then one by one roll them in into their mouths to feed. Some sea cucumbers crawl around on the bottom slowly filtering sand through their tentacles to gather food, while others spread their tentacles above them to capture plankton. A number of sea cucumbers feed nocturnally while others feed by day. There are sea cucumbers that hardly move while others are more active often perching on tall sponges to feed. Sea cucumbers often attract hitch-hikers like shrimps and crabs that crawl over their skin, also pearlfish that enter via their anus. As a means of defence sea cucumbers can expel their intestines or respiratory organs in the form of sticky threads, but these can quickly regenerate. Juveniles often mimic sea slugs. Some types of sea cucumbers are edible and considered a delicacy in the Far East countries.

Discovery Education Kids - Hairy Sea Cucumber 2016

Discovery Education Kids - Hairy Sea Cucumber 2016 ======================= -Sclerodactyla briareus is an elongated oval or cigar-shaped sea cucumber and grows to about 15 centimetres (5.9 in). It often adopts a characteristic pose with both ends raised above the substrate. At the anterior end there is a mouth surrounded by a ring of ten, short, branched feeding tentacles. These are modified tube feet that can be retracted back into the mouth when the animal is not feeding. The surface of the body is divided into five ambulacral areas with five shallow interambulacral grooves in between. Internally there are five bands of muscle running along the ambulacrae and there are also transverse bands of muscles. Just behind the tentacles is a group of small ossicles, calcareous stiffening plates, forming a short tube surrounding the pharynx. These provide a skeletal support for the muscles and internal organs. The skin is thick and leathery and the tube feet are scattered rather than being in orderly rows, protruding as soft finger-like projections from the body wall. The minute calcareous spicules that are embedded in the skin are characteristic for the species, being square or round and table-shaped with spires formed of four pillars. The colour is dark greenish-brown or charcoal grey with pale grey tentacles on blackish stems. ======================= Click watch more videos: https://goo.gl/uLWJcB Thanks for watching!
