Surviving One of the Deadliest Routes to Europe: Refugees at Sea

31:40
Desperate to escape conflict and poverty, thousands of migrants and refugees attempt the perilous journey to Europe each year, with many crossing the Mediterranean Sea from North Africa in rubber dinghies and wooden boats. In the wake of the decommissioning of Mare Nostrum, a search and rescue operation run by Italy, the humanitarian organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), launched their own vessel, named the Bourbon Argos, to find those stranded at sea and save those in trouble on one of the deadliest routes to Europe. On board the vessel, refugees and migrants are provided with medical aid, food, and shelter, then brought safely to Italian shores. Having survived life in Libya, ruthless treatment by smugglers, and horrific conditions aboard flimsy boats, once aboard the Bourbon Argos they face yet more uncertainty as they approach Europe. VICE News teamed up with MSF to document these search and rescue missions in the Mediterranean and speak to rescued refugees and migrants, hearing about the suffering they have endured in their attempts to reach a new life. Travel by cruise ship to Panama Canal (HD)

09:07
Travel by cruise ship to Panama Canal , Visit Panama Canal, Panama Canal Tours, Panama Canal Vacation Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube The Panama Canal is a 77.1-kilometre (48 mi) ship canal in Panama that connects the Atlantic Ocean (via the Caribbean Sea) to the Pacific Ocean. The canal cuts across the Isthmus of Panama and is a key conduit for international maritime trade. There are locks at each end to lift ships up to Gatun Lake, an artificial lake created to reduce the amount of excavation work required for the canal, 26 metres (85 ft) above sea level. The current locks are 33.5 metres (110 ft) wide. A third, wider lane of locks is currently under construction and is due to open in 2016. France began work on the canal in 1881, but had to stop because of engineering problems and high mortality due to disease. The United States took over the project in 1904, and took a decade to complete the canal, which was officially opened on August 15, 1914. One of the largest and most difficult engineering projects ever undertaken, the Panama Canal shortcut greatly reduced the time for ships to travel between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, enabling them to avoid the lengthy, hazardous Cape Horn route around the southernmost tip of South America via the Drake Passage or Strait of Magellan. The shorter, faster, and safer route to the U.S. West Coast and to nations in and around the Pacific Ocean allowed those places to become more integrated with the world economy. It takes between 20 and 30 hours to traverse the canal. During construction, ownership of the territory that is now the Panama Canal was first Colombian, then French, and then American. The US continued to control the canal and surrounding Panama Canal Zone until the 1977 Torrijos–Carter Treaties provided for handover to Panama. After a period of joint American–Panamanian control, the canal was taken over by the Panamanian government in 1999, and is now managed and operated by the Panama Canal Authority, a Panamanian government agency. Annual traffic has risen from about 1,000 ships in 1914, when the canal opened, to 14,702 vessels in 2008, the latter measuring a total of 309.6 million Panama Canal/Universal Measurement System (PC/UMS) tons. By 2008, more than 815,000 vessels had passed through the canal; the largest ships that can transit the canal today are called Panamax. The American Society of Civil Engineers has named the Panama Canal one of the seven wonders of the modern world.

JRC reveals global traffic routes using LRIT ship tracking data

01:36
The video shows the main traffic routes followed at global scale by ships flying the flag of States contributing to the EU Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) Cooperative Data Centre (CDC): all EU Member States, Iceland, Norway, and Overseas Territories of EU Member States*. The LRIT vessel positions are refreshed every 6 hours and reconstructed every hour using the European Commission Joint Research Centre's “Blue Hub” technology. The video covers a period of one month, giving a first insight into the potential of the data for performing statistical and other analysis of maritime transport routes of vessels flying EU LRIT CDC flags. The LRIT vessel positions can be polled over delimited areas by operational authorities in specific circumstances such as for Search and Rescue. In these cases, there appear also data from States not participating in the EU LRIT CDC, leading to flashing spotlights in the animation (e.g. in the Atlantic Ocean or in the Mediterranean Sea). Further information: https://ec.europa.eu/jrc/en/scientific-tool/blue-hub-rd-platform-maritime-surveillance-and-maritime-situational-awareness?search *Access to the data was granted by the National Competent Authorities for LRIT of States participating in the EU LRIT CDC through the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA).‎

Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/dg_the_wand... Twitter : https://twitter.com/deepakdilme Many of my friends were asking for a Spiti valley Itinerary and here i am posting a best route plan for Spiti valley. The Spiti Valley is a cold desert mountain valley located high in the Himalaya mountains in the north-eastern part of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The name "Spiti" means "The Middle Land", i.e. the land between Tibet and India. The town of Kaza, Kaze or Kaja is the subdivisional headquarters of the remote Spiti Valley in the Lahaul and Spiti district of the state of Himachal Pradesh in the Western Himalayas of India. Shimla is the capital of the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, in the Himalayan foothills. Once the summer capital of British India, it remains the terminus of the narrow-gauge Kalka-Shimla Railway, completed in 1903. It’s also known for the handicraft shops that line The Mall, a pedestrian avenue, as well as the Lakkar Bazaar, a market specializing in wooden toys and crafts. Nako Lake is a high altitude lake in the Pooh sub-division of the Kinnaur district. It forms part of the boundary of Nako village and seems that the village is half buried in the lake's border. It is about 3,662 metres above sea level. Kalpa is a small town in the Sutlej river valley, above Recong Peo in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, Northern India, in the Indian Himalaya. Inhabited by Kinnauri people and famous for its apple orchards. Chandra Taal, or Chandra Tal is situated in the Spiti part of the Lahul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. The name of the lake originates from its crescent shape. It is situated at an altitude of about 4,300 metres in the Himalayas. Kye Gompa is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery located on top of a hill at an altitude of 4,166 metres above sea level, close to the Spiti River, in the Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh, Lahaul and Spiti district, India. Kibber also Kyibar is a village high in the Spiti Valley in the Himalayas at 4270 metres or 14,200 ft in Himachal Pradesh in northern India. It contains a monastery and the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary. Poland/Latvia - Hanseatic routes along the Baltic Sea | European Journal Journeys in Europe

06:11
The Hanseatic League dominated long-distance trade from the 13th to the 16th century. The Hanseatic cities of central and eastern Europe are hoping to revive old traditions.Gdansk, Tallinn, Vilnius and Riga were every part as much of the Hanseatic League as Hamburg and Bremen. Even today, the cities' beautiful medieval buildings are a reminder of that age. Now that the states along the eastern Baltic have joined the European Union, the old Hanseatic cities are rekindling their old bonds. In the Middle Ages, the Hanseatic League's influence extended across much of Europe, and trade flourished. The Hanseatic cities even had their own legal system, which was an important factor in their economic and political success. Some experts say the Hanseatic League could serve as a useful model for European integration today.

The Best Cruises From Four Major Cruise Lines

13:50
After 42 cruises, I take a look back at the best cruise I've taken with four major cruise lines: Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian, and Princess. You'll find out what I think is the best cruise ship in the world, which cruise line I've sailed the most with, see the luxury cruise experience that can be had if you're willing to pay the big bucks, and find out about the one cruise destination that was far more beautiful than all of the others. Special emphasis on two very special ships: Anthem Of The Seas, and the Carnival Vista... certainly two of the best cruise ships serving North America right now. This is an updated version of a video that I first published on YouTube back in May of 2016. People have still been watching that video lately, and I feel bad about it because it was two years out of date. Specifically, the information about Carnival and Norwegian needed to be updated since we've had some great cruises with those two lines in the two years since the original version of this video. So, this current version offers my honest opinions as of December 2017. 22:09
Presenting the second part of a full journey between Mumbai and Kerala aboard the Okha Ernakulam Express. This compilation covers the train's passage between Mangalore and Thrissur. This stretch is possibly the only railway route in India providing numerous sightings of the Arabian Sea as the tracks hug the Kerala coastline on its southwards journey, particularly between Mangalore and Kannur. Prominent captures are the Nethravathi River after Mangalore, opening up into the Arabian Sea, numerous other rivers the Arabian Sea and views of the sea, and a brisk passage through the greenery and coconut palms of Kerala. Along the way, we meet the Ernad Express, the Parasuram Express, huffing and puffing with twin Golden Rock WDM3As and Mangala Lakshadweep Express.

We meet up with some friends who charter a yacht for the week and sail around the Southern Ionian, exploring caves on Meganisi and beaches on Ithaca Island. We're hit by another storm and go against our off grid principles by sheltering in a cafe with a big TV and ice-cream. With storms and mechanical problems with the boat mounting up do we brave the crossing from Lefkada to Sicily? LEBANON: TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS IMPOSED ON ALL ROUTES FROM LIBYA

02:31
Arabic/Eng Lebanon closed its sea routes with Libya on Saturday and imposed other travel restrictions in an attempt to stop hundreds of Palestinians deported by Colonel Gadhafi entering the country. In a strong response to Colonel Gadhafi's decision to expel all Palestinian workers from Libya, Lebanon closed all sea routes with Libya and imposed strict travel restrictions on Saturday. The decision came after 350 Palestinians arrived from Libya with Lebanese travel documents. There are 30,000 Palestinians in Libya, many of them with valid Lebanese travel documents. The Khiat family were one of the few families that entered Lebanon before the ban. SOUNDBITE: (Arabic) "Lately there was a celebration on the first of September after the brother Colonel Gadhafi finished his speech he mentioned that Palestinians will leave Libya." SUPER CAPTION: Fatima Khiat The PLO responded sharply in reaction to the Lebanese announcement. SOUNDBITE: "I want to express my condemnation of the act that has been taken against Palestinian people and specially the deportation has no reason whatsoever. The people who have been deported did not commit any act to deserve such deportation. Secondly, I'd like to tell that these Palestinians hold Lebanese documents that all was natural when Gadhafi decide to send them into Lebanon they were supposed to be received with decency and respect because they hold Lebanese legal documents." SUPER CAPTION: Shafik Al Hout, PLO official in Lebanon The Lebanese Interior Minister called the decision a "preventative measure". SOUNDBITE:(Arabic) "Libyans decided to expel 15-thousand Palestinians to Lebanon as if we are here an open place to everybody. No, Lebanon will not be an open square to any body and I assure you that no harbour and no airport will allow that, any one who wants to throw the Palestinians out of his land will (not) send them into Lebanon." SUPER CAPTION: Michael El Mur, Lebanese Interior Minister Many Lebanese are afraid that a refugee influx will upset the country's delicate political balance, re igniting sectarian friction. By train across Sri Lanka | DW Documentary

42:26
Asia’s most beautiful railway line? The “Main Line” cuts through tea plantations and jungle, then passes Buddhist temples and relicts of the British Empire. In the 19th century the British built a railway in what was then their colony of Ceylon. Their idea was to transport goods such as tea from the highlands to the port of Colombo. Today it’s mainly only locals and tourists who use the so-called "Main Line." The route is considered one of the most picturesque in the whole of Asia. Our trip takes us from the capital, Colombo, to Ella in the highlands. Our first stop is one of the country’s largest elephant orphanages. And then on to Kandy, the former capital of the Singhalese kingdom. The city is home to the famous Temple of the Tooth, which is said to house the Buddha’s top left canine. The train then winds its way further up into the highlands. We watch tea pickers at work and go to a tea factory to discover where the aroma comes from. Nuwara Eliya is Sri Lanka’s highest town at an altitude of almost 1900 meters, where a racecourse still brings the colonial era back to life. The stations have also retained their own colonial charm: in 1901, a signaling system was set up to make the long journey safer. And those suffering from the altitude can catch their breath at the final stop, the spa in Ella. _______ Exciting, powerful and informative – DW Documentary is always close to current affairs and international events.
