The Secret Life of Cats - [National Geographic] Documentary. ✳️ Learn to communicate directly with your cat: https://lixtle.com/catlanguage Traditionally, historians tended to think ancient Egypt was the site of cat domestication. However, in 2004, a Neolithic grave excavated in Cyprus contained the skeletons, laid close to one another, of both a human and a cat. The grave is estimated to be 9,500 years old, pushing back the earliest known feline–human association significantly. The cat specimen is large and closely resembles the African wildcat, rather than present-day domestic cats. Wonderful World Of Cats - Domestic Cats Documentary - History Channel HD The Domestic Cats is a small, often furry, tamed, as well as carnivorous creature. They are usually called housecats when kept as an indoor pet dog or merely pet cats when there is no should identify them from other felids and also felines. Cats are usually valued by human beings for companionship and their capacity to hunt vermin. Felines are similar in composition to the other felids, with solid, versatile physical bodies, fast reflexes, sharp retractable claws, and teeth adapted to getting rid of small prey. Cat senses fit a crepuscular and predatory ecological niche. Cats can hear sounds too faint or expensive in regularity for human ears, such as those made by mice and also various other little animals. They can see in near darkness. Like most other mammals, cats have poorer color vision and a better sense of smell than humans. Despite being solitary hunters, cats are a social species and cat communication includes making use of a variety of vocalizations (mewing, purring, trilling, hissing, grumbling, and groaning), along with cat pheromones and types of cat-specific body language. Cats have a high breeding rate. Under controlled breeding, they can be bred and shown as registered pedigree pets, a hobby called feline fancy. Failure to manage the reproduction of pet dog cats by neutering as well as the abandonment of previous home animals has actually resulted in big numbers of raging pet cats worldwide, calling for population control. This has contributed, in addition to habitat destruction and also various other aspects, to termination of many bird varieties. Cats have been known to extirpate a bird types within a specific region and could have added to extinction of isolated island populations. Cats are thought to be primarily, though not solely, in charge of the extinction of 33 types of birds, as well as the existence of feral and cost-free ranging felines makes some areas unsuitable for attempted varieties reestablishment in or else appropriate places. Since felines were treasured in old Egypt, they were frequently believed to have actually been tamed there, however there could have been circumstances of domestication as very early as the Neolithic from around 9,500 years back (7,500 BC). A genetic research in 2007 wrapped up that residential cats are descended from African wildcats, having actually diverged around 8,000 BC in West Asia. Cats are the most popular pet around the world, and are currently located in almost every place where people live. But what of its creator, the mild-mannered and unassuming Oxford University Math Don, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, aka. Lewis Carroll? Famed not only for his wonderful stories, Carroll is also known for his ambiguous relationship with the young girl who inspired his most beloved creation, Alice Liddell, a seemingly innocent infatuation that he documented in his pioneering photography. With contributions from the likes of thespian Richard E. Grant, social commentator Will Self and author Philip Pullman, at once adoring and provocative this documentary casts a conflicted eye over the creation of Wonderland. Pouring through historical evidence and stories passed down through generations, hear the tale of Carroll’s first encounter with the three Liddell girls and the first telling of Alice’s tumble down the rabbit hole one summer’s afternoon in a boat upon the River Thames. Documentary first broadcast in 2015. Content licensed from All3 Media International. Produced by Swan Films.

Cats are one of the most popular pets in the world. And they can be just as playful, cuddly, and friendly as their canine counterparts! Are you a cat person? Are you considering getting one? Well, you probably should leave the following 10 dangerous cat breeds off your list of potential candidates. TIMESTAMPS: Pallas’s cat 0:58 The Savannah 2:14 The Chausie 3:40 The Jungle cat 443 The Abyssinian 5:43 The British Shorthair 6:52 The Maine Coon 7:51 The Mekong Bobtail 8:48 The Siamese 9:43 The Bobcat 10:55 Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY: - The distinct trait of Pallas’s cat is its un-cat-like round eyes and pupils. The important question is: can you tame this kitty? The short answer is: no. - The Savannah is a crossbreed between the African Serval and your common domestic house cat. It has a long neck, body, and legs with dark-brown to black spots all over its coat. - Also known as the “Nile cat,” this breed is a cross between an Abyssinian domestic cat and a Jungle cat. Its wild ancestor, the Jungle cat, is the very one that the ancient Egyptians worshipped! - The Jungle cat's scientific name is Felis chaus, but it also goes by the “Swamp Lynx,” Swamp Cat,” or “Reed Cat.” While the name would have you think otherwise, this cat does not live in the jungle but rather in wetlands with dense vegetation. - The Aby is one of the oldest domesticated cat breeds. Believed to originate from Abyssinia, which is modern-day Ethiopia, most experts nowadays site Egypt as the breed’s place of origin. - If you’re familiar with the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland or Puss in Boots in Shrek, then you’ve definitely met some of the on-screen representations of the British Shorthair. This breed can weigh up to 20 pounds and lives up to about 20 years. - The Maine Coon is a large breed that can weigh up to 20 pounds or more. It also received celebrity status as “Mrs. Norris” in the Harry Potter movies. - The Mekong Bobtail can weigh up to 10 pounds and has a lifespan of up to 18 years. And, of course, we can’t forget to mention this breed’s most unique feature: its tiny little bobbed tail! - The Siamese is the most talkative and opinionated cat out there! It demands to be entertained and showered with attention 24/7. It can be pretty cautious around strangers and outright naughty when left alone at home! - Known as Lnyx rufus in the scientific community, the Bobcat is a nocturnal animal with a natural habitat in the wild. Yet some people are brave (or silly) enough to make them pets. This animation was created as the final project for my art course, Self-Directed Studio Art (a year long art course available to the juniors and seniors at my high school). Music: curly by robek https://soundcloud.com/rob-ek/curly What if there was a world, where everyone was secretly a cat? This animation explores just that. The audience is introduced to a strange world where everyone possesses cat traits, but seeks to hide them. Because in this world, society views most, if not all, cat like traits to be undesirable, everyone had started to hide them. In this animation’s three arcs, we explore how cat traits are revealed, how they affect our relationships, and how they affect the bigger picture in terms of culture and on the internet. This animation seeks to explore the complicated themes of identity, discrimination and culture through a different lens. When we reduce complexities down to something silly and simple like cat ears, we may be able to see more than we did before. In the end, it seems that this bizarre world of secret cats may not be so far away after all. The idea for this piece came to me as a silly thought, but as I looked into animators like Felix Colgrave, vewn (Victoria Vincent), and other animated short films, I decided to develop the idea further. Double King by Felix Colgrave and kittykat96 by Victoria Vicent inspired me to create this work. After viewing their respective pieces, I decided to use fantastical and metaphorical elements to explore important themes like identity and discrimination in our fractured world. The project was animated in Adobe Animate and assembled in Premiere. Every scene was hand drawn using a digital tablet (Wacom Intuos Pro) in Adobe Animate, and some sketches were created on paper or in Photoshop. Credits are due to Sam Yoon, Chris Ward and Eden Cui for voicing lines in this animation. The music used for this piece is titled curly, and belongs to robek (https://soundcloud.com/rob-ek/curly). This music was licensed under Creative Commons. Additionally, I would like to thank Stephanie Curci (Chair of the English Department) for advising me in terms of script and storyline. I would also like to thank Therese Zemlin for advising me throughout the course of this project. Junior year has been an amazing ride for me all the way through, and taking this art class has been one of the highlights. I grew so much as an artist and as a person (16 is definitely an age for many changes!) I’m so grateful to have experienced this class and the wonderful people in it. It’s definitely one of the things I’ll remember about my high school experience forever.

The family of the jellyfish or medusae are not only the most venomous ocean inhabitants but also some of the deepest divers. Medusae have been found as deep as 8.300 meters. Their existence is paramount to the oceans. Many of the large migrations of fish and mammals would not be possible without the existence of jellies. They are a crucial part of the food chain, many fish feed on jellies and in turn mammals or larger migratory predators feed on fish. The scientist Gerhard Jarms of the Zoological Institute of the University of Hamburg takes us on a journey into the exotic world of jellyfish. He is one of the most renowned medusae scientists in the world. Our expedition begins in the northern Atlantic where we will find the mysterious periphylla. We will continue on to the Azores in the Atlantic. There we will search for the XY jellies that seek shelter in caves in rough seas. In the Pacific we will swim with the jellies in the famous Jellyfish Lake and last but not least we will explore some of the world's most beautiful coral reefs of western Papua. And at the very end danger lurks around every corner as we set out to search off Australia's coast for the fatal sea wasp- one of the most poisonous ocean inhabitants. She took off in 1963 and went as far as outer space. - Cats normally have one to 9 kittens in a litter. Back in 1970, a Burmese/Siamese cat from Oxfordshire, UK, gave birth to 19 kittens, of which 15 survived. It was named “Proailurus,” meaning “first cat” in Greek. The pet cat’s family appeared 12 million years ago. - The oldest cat breed on Earth is the Egyptian Mau. Its ancestors walked the planet more than 4,000 years ago! If you ever find yourself in Egypt, you’ll know how to say “cat” — it’s “mau.” - If you’ve ever wondered how to name a group of cats, there’s a special word for it: clowder. Other names are clutter and glaring for adult cats and litter for kittens. - Have you ever noticed how cats never meow at each other? In fact, they purr, spit, and hiss at each other, only meowing at humans. - When cats need something from their owner, they can adapt their meow to manipulate humans! Who would say no to a kitty that sounds like a crying baby? - Just like humans, cats can be right- and left-handed — sorry, pawed. Most female cats are righties; most males are lefties. - You might love to travel, but can you compete with Hamlet, a true jet-setter?
