I'm Ioana Avram, fashion designer. Welcome to my Fashion teaching channel where you will find design videos starting from basic, easy level ( for beginners ) until advanced level. Follow my advices regarding the hand draw: anatomy studies, fashion poses, figures and croquis, learn about style and craft, fabrics and how to create garments. I love painting and sketching, I like fabrics and fashion magazines and especially pencil, ink and watercolor technique. I believe anyone can draw after practicing a while because all you need is work, work, work and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. :) I made this channel to prove that it's ok to have talent, but not necessary. Through my one of a kind technique you will see how easy it will be to draw from now on. You will learn more about fashion and everything related to it: composition, shading, textures, different techniques and especially learn how to draw fashion sketches all by yourself. I will post new videos each Thursday so don't forget to subscribe. I will do my best to answer all comments. Ask anything you want, and feel free to leave any suggestions for future videos! All are taken into consideration. For more info visit my website fashion-teaching.com. Thank you and take care! FAQ: 1. What materials do you use for your drawings? ****************************************************** I use Toison d'Or or Koh-I-Noor pencils ( from 4B to 8B), Copic markers, Derwent coloured pencils, Canson paper or Fabriano paper, Factis eraser, metal pencil sharper and Winsor and Newton watercolors and ink. 2. Did you go to any art school or academy? ****************************************************** Yes, I studied design and fashion design ( for 4 years) at the University of Arts and Design in Cluj, Romania, Europe. I had a scholarship in Katowice, Poland and another one in Coburg, Germany and a course attended with Gary Tu - a well-known fashion illustrator from Taipei, Taiwan. 3.Where do you get your inspiration? ****************************************************** Basically I am very interested in any image and text that could grab my attention: fashion albums, history of art, books I read, movies I see...In fact, i will share below all my sources of inspiration. Find all my inspirational folders here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/397137153755499/photos/ 4. Do you have any links or books you can recommend? ****************************************************** Definitely I would recommend Gottfried Bammes' Anatomy, Barcsay's Anatomy and David Downton's illustrations that you will find here: http://www.daviddownton.com/ and here: http://instagram.com/daviddownton 5. How long have you been drawing? ****************************************************** 30 years ago some desperate parents interdicted their 3 years old child to use pencils to draw on their house's inner walls :). Due to this, and to the fact that all pencils, brushes and markers were forbidden, the child found another way to express: all chocolate received was hidden and used to "decorate" the walls when all other tools were not available.30 years later, here I am, willing to tell a story on every wall there is. Not with chocolate, like I used to :), but in watercolors, as you can find on my shop here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/bijuterra. Thank you, and hope to enjoy my illustrations and videos from your comfortable armchair, having a cup of warm milk in your hand and smiling. 6. How can I send my drawing to you? ****************************************************** For any personal advice you can send me your illustrations or questions here: [email protected] and I will reply. Thank you! 7. Click for more: http://ww2.kqed.org/artschool/ Oakland high school student Zachary Fernandez made it to the finals on the first season of Project Runway Junior, then headed straight back to Oakland School of the Arts to continue his education as a designer. His newest collection, Kathmandu, was inspired by recovery efforts in Nepal after the devastating 2015 earthquake. Art School followed Fernandez's process as he sketched, sourced fabric, and designed his new project, revealed at a culminating fashion show in spring 2016. Hi, my name is Zachary Fernandez and I'm currently a fashion student. So I am starting my Kathmandu 2016 collection. My collection's gonna be debuting at my school fashion show, and so I have little under seven weeks to get this all put together. So our school assignment was to pick a city that we wanted to be inspired by for this collection. I ended with Kathmandu, Nepal, all of the trouble that they went through last year was really inspiring and I was able to take those ideas of imbalance and the destruction of culture and apply that to this new collection. These are the pieces that I ended up designing. They're ever-changing and they kind of just are always in flux. My sketching process involves a lot of images, a lot of mixed medias, I like to do collages, watercolors, acrylic paste, it's a real reflection of what my mind looks like. Here you have the final sketches that I've done. The sketching process for me is really a major step between just ideas and kind of this fantasy world that I've created in my mind to really functional wearable pieces. Fabric sourcing is one of my favorite things to do. It's really like a group activity, like meet a couple of friends, we'll just go, we'll explore the city, we'll get inspiration. So I'm looking for like a very pale blue that's almost like very silverish, and then I'm gonna be looking for a very deep, rust orange color. Okay, so I need to find this, but more grayish blue. The fabric store is one of those places that you go in with one idea and one concept and one thought, and you come out with like 500 more. This is it. - This is it! - This is it. - [Girl] Dude! - Hey! Yes! So I spend the majority of my time draping and it's definitely a part that will make or break a piece. I take a piece of muslin, which is just a really basic blend fabric, and I started sculpting it to the dress form. And then those mock-ups that I make of the dress form are then fitted to the model, and sometimes I try them on a model, I'm like, this is hideous, I don't know why, it just overpowers her or something happens and that leads to even better ideas and even more just, creativeness. When you design while you create, I just think it takes so much longer and you like pressure yourself so much more. So, my design mind is turned off. And it's just about sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing. So after I finish draping, I take a part of that mockup and I totally seam rip it and I re-pattern it, and then I cut out of my real fabric. It's always really nerve-wracking 'cause a lot of times the fabric's all that you have, either the budget doesn't allow for you to get more fabric, or there's simply not anymore left. It has this like box-like structure in it. The box is actually lined with horse-hair so that it can kind of take the shape and that's why I'm kind of trying to like manipulate it right now 'cause it just takes on whatever shape you really need it to. The show, oh the show. Six days, and I'm still cutting up fabric like, I don't think that's normal. There's always going to be that last minute hurry up and finish like state of being. I have a picture in my mind about how this is supposed to go, but who knows if it actually go that way. I think that there can be a lot of different ways to read the look. Obviously you look for like the main things like color, silhouette, is this an evening piece, is this a day piece and you just kind of put the garment and choose certain categories and that really helps people read fashion out, by the time the piece is on the runway I'm already thinking about a whole new collection and I'm really thinking something totally different, but it doesn't really hit me that these people, for them it's the first time that they've seen this. I've spent months and months planning and sketching and putting it together. If I see all these different things in these pieces, but no one else does, then it's kind of sad, but then it's also part of what makes fashion art, is because people see it in so many different ways. We are in my home, studio, bedroom combination in Berkeley, California. I have this look from Project Runway Junior, which was the first episode, and this look for my most recent collection. They really mean a lot to me 'cause they show how much progress I've made within the last four, five months.

Fashion sketches inspired by the brief SECOND SKIN Join my classes here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/FTOnlineClasses/ For next week, the 5th brief we will study on my group A will be inspired by the idea of a second skin. To make your research on the internet, just see what you get when you search the followings: pale, skin, soft, details, feminine, air, breath, layers, bubbles, textures, lace, organic, natural, peel off, elastic, wind, eco outfits, bio-cultures. The collection should be about a clothing that is worn directly on the skin, maybe transparent, something very soft and sensitive, like a second skin for the person who wears it. Your ideas can be presented together with a rational, a text that describes your ideas. You should not think only on the form but also about a philosophy about this character or person that wears the costumes. Some ideas: maybe the costume is seen and felted only in a special condition. Maybe when it rains or maybe when there is wind. Maybe it appears in the darkness only. Or maybe only the wearer sees it. Or maybe the costume details underline the veins and muscles of the woman that wears the outfit. Or maybe it is just a tattoo or a light graffiti. Maybe it is an ephemeral manifestation. Who knows? Try to sketch between 5 to 10 different outfits and send me your works together with the story of your creations. These 4 challenges you will receive this second month are more philosophical and a written support will be needed. You can send me your sketches but also some ideas written like I mentioned before. Even if you can not suggest your ideas through drawings, you can express your creativity through words. For me, when I saw this image on the left side of the screen, I immediately thought of an inflatable costume that can change its shape due to those small spherical shapes beneath the clothing. For the third image, I imagined segments that can be adjusted to change the shape of the costume. Waiting for your sketches! Have a nice week-end and see you next Thursday, as always! Please do not forget to give me a thumbs up if you liked my video and do subscribe if you did not do it until now. Thank you!

Fashion sketches inspired by BURNING MAN festival. Hello, As you saw from my previous 4 videos, we already started, the 1st of November, the Fashion Teaching Online Classes - group A. As I said, these online classes of mine are addressed for people who want to study in private with me, online. This does not mean that I won’t post my videos on Youtube, each Thursday, as you are already used to. My YouTube and my private courses will go in parallel: YouTube will always be free and my private lessons are something extra, for those of you who want more. What can one learn at my online, private classes? Well, here they are: - how to sketch fast - how to achieve a perfect drawing - how to harmonize colors in a fashion collection - how to think like a fashion designer - how to use fashion trends in their ideas - how to sketch costumes inspired by a certain topic - how to concept a collection starting from any source of inspiration - how to boost creativity in no time - how to draw your own fashion collection For how things are working in these classes, see the previous 4 videos I posted on my YouTube channel last week. (https://www.facebook.com/groups/FTOnlineClasses/) And now, let’s get to the video for today: Fashion sketches inspired by BURNING MAN festival. The easiest way of starting a collection inspired by a theme is to observe the shapes. You can almost copy the model and adapt it in order to create an outfit. I think it is obvious what inspired me here. As I said before, for this stage it is recommended to use simple lines. These drawings will help you express your ideas, so, there is no need to add the human body or any anatomical details. I am inspired by greasy pencils or charcoal pencils because they leave bold marks. The beautiful gray tones come from the pressure of my hand. That’s why I prefer these pencils – because with an HB pencils one cannot obtain such pressure. After drawing the large volumes, i just added details. The hands are not very important, so, I just suggested the fact that she will wear a tight blouse beneath the dress. For the second costume, I took the shape of the arch in the left part of the drawing and made an autumn tunic. The wheels inspired a hat and the lamp that hangs beneath the arch, the jewelries. The color was not the main point here, so, the drawing remained black and white. For the third drawing, i took the lamp once again and made a hat out of it. This time, was not the shape that inspired me but the texture. After sketching the volume, the most interesting part for me was to explore the details. All that lacy texture I used to imagine my outfit like having embroidery with golden threads. This time, color helped me to imagine even better how the costume will be brought to life. All 3 costumes are designed for winter time. I did 3 variants inspired by a single image just to show you the endless possibilities an image can offer. If you want to learn more, to be included in my secret groups on facebook and to receive a personal feed-back on your drawings, join my fashion course that starts the 1st of December. Fashion sketches inspired by ABANDONED PLACES Hello, As you saw from my previous 5 videos, we already started, the 1st of November, the Fashion Teaching Online Classes - group A. (https://www.facebook.com/groups/FTOnlineClasses/) And now, let’s start sketching: For any drawing you made, you can use graphite pencils, colored pencils, markers, watercolor, chalk, collage – at your choice. The collection could be in done in pencil or colored if you want. You can add any details, texts or materials. Think of the layouting/pagination and make the drawing beautiful – as you would present it to your client. You can get inspired by a single photo or as many as you want. Before starting sketching, I have searched these things on the internet: Colored water and rivers, industrial vapors, altered nature, extra-terrestrial images, heavy explosions, residues, corroded details, Lower Antelope Canyon. I stopped to this image because I found it interesting enough to extract some creative things that might lead to a mini fashion collection. Arches, details, the plants themselves inspired me to create 3 different outfits. Hope you liked my video! If so, please not forget to press the thumbs up button and to subscribe for more. Thank you and see you next Thursday, as always!

For next year, there are some trends or even better, some creative directions that you will want to follow. The Challenge was to create a small collection of 5 to 10 different pieces inspired by the theme: WINTER GARDEN. And just to introduce you in the mood, I will have to say that I’ve searched for frozen flowers, winter gardens with no persons in them, flowers, winter, ice, popsicles, frozen, roses, garden, feminine, blue, pink, gray, white, glacial, ornaments, embroidery, crafting, details, patterns. The colors are soft, cold grays and a touch of warm colors, cold climate atmosphere, ice, concrete gray. Brightness comes from a touch of orange, yellow or red juxtaposed with white and soft, pale grays. Materials can be metallic, surfaces wrinkled and the ornaments can be glossy. Embroideries and details are also preferred. But more about fashion forecasting and trends you will find out at my private fashion classes. The famous and extravagant designer tells his personal life and his career through drawings. Subscribe for more! http://bit.ly/JansonYouTube A funny self-portrait, both vivid and unique, much like the fashion titan himself, Karl Lagerfeld sketches the events of his life and his career, punctuated by comments and snippets of intimate stories, lively, tinted self-deprecating humor, and sometimes even emotion. He outlines everything from his childhood (his house, his parents, his original clothes already ...) to his first fashion designs for Paris Balmain and Jean Patou.
