Poultry & The Hormone Myth (long version)
One of the most common, and frustrating, questions for U.S. poultry producers is why hormones are used to produce today's poultry products. Of course, the actual answer is NO HORMONES are used. To address this continuing misinformation, U.S. Poultry & Egg Association has prepared a new video to explain the scientific, economic and legal reasons hormones are not needed or used by the U.S. poultry industry. There are two versions of the video (long & short). The short version is precise and gets to the gist of the video's message quickly. The long version provides more detail for those who are interested. This is the long version.

One should be aware and have good knowledge on its technicality viz. housing, breed, feed management, and over all maintenance. The poultry birds which are raised for commercial meat production are called broiler poultry. By using modern farming methods broiler chickens become suitable for consumption within their 5 to 6 weeks of age. However, see the common raising systems which are mostly used for commercial broiler poultry farming. Indoor Raising Methods: In this method broilers are kept inside a house. Rice hulls, wood shavings, peanut shells etc. are used as litter in the floor of the house. In this system the broilers are kept in a large and open house (known as grow out houses) and they become suitable for consumption within their 5 to 6 weeks of age. This types of poultry houses are well equipped with mechanical systems for delivering the feed and water to the poultry birds. Well ventilation system, coolers and heaters are must. It is very important to keep the house always dry and clean. Generally a house of 400 feet long and 40 feet wide can accommodate about 20,000 birds. One-half square feet space is required per bird. Free-Range Methods: In free-range broiler farming methods the broilers are kept like the free-range layers. The broiler breeds which grows slowly(takes more than 8 weeks for reaching slaughter weight) are suitable for raising in this systems. The main facilities of free-range farming systems is that, it allows the birds scratching, foraging, pecking and outdoor exercise. Organic Farming Methods: Organic farming method is almost the same as free-range farming systems. But the main difference is that, in organic farming methods the birds are not allowed for randomly using of in-feed or in-water medications, other food additives and synthetic amino acids. This system is very suitable for the poultry breeds which reach slaughter weight slowly(around 12 weeks). Selecting Broiler for Business There are many breeds of broiler. Before selecting broilers for business the farmer have to maintain some process. Those important steps are described below. Our liquid egg mixes are primarily functional food ingredients and we take great care to preserve the natural functional properties of eggs to ensure they meet the needs of our customers. Our standard products are liquid whole egg, egg whites, liquid egg yolk and scrambled egg mix: Benefits of Framptons Liquid Egg Products: Made with Taj Agro Best Quality eggs Shelf life of 28 days when chilled or one year when frozen from date of production Pasteurised, homogenised and packed under a rigorous HACCP Quality Assurance Programme Great shell egg taste without the mess Requires 60% less storage space than shell egg Easy portion control No added preservatives or artifical colouring Storage : Refrigerated products should be kept at 40°F (4°C) or below. Frozen products should be stored at 0°F (-17°C) or below and show no signs of having been thawed. Thaw egg products in the refrigerator, or under cold running water. Use well within expiration dates. Whole eggs, or simply eggs, are composed of two distinct parts — the albumen, or white, and the yolk, or yellow — with each part providing different and important nutrients and functionalities. From the nutritional side, whole eggs are considered nutrient dense. A 50‐gram egg (average weight of a large egg) contains 6.25 grams of protein, which is high‐quality, complete protein, 5 grams of fat, the majority of which is unsaturated, and contains lots of essential vitamins and minerals. Thus, using eggs in a prepared food formulation helps build an attractive Nutrition Facts label. And of course, the natural and wholesome reputation of eggs is well received by consumers when eggs appear on ingredient statements. Functionally, eggs provide prepared foods with exceptional richness, in terms of flavor, color and texture. They can be used to assist in emulsifying, stabilizing, increasing volume, and improving machineability. Food formulators get all this from just one simple, all‐natural ingredient —the egg. Whole liquid eggs not only simplify the production of foods made with eggs, they provide consistency in measurement and ensure safety and quality. Prepared foods production facilities never have to deal with shelling eggs. There is no waste from breakage, which reduces production costs. The whole liquid egg product is ready to use. Plus, the person measuring ingredients does so by either volume (e.g., one gallon) or weight (50 pounds), depending on application and batch size. Often times egg product suppliers will sell pre‐measured containers of whole liquid egg products for even easier incorporation into formulations. There’s less labor and less room for error. Lastly, whole liquid eggs are pasteurized to destroy Salmonella and other bacteria, which ensures safety. Typically, shell eggs, once cleaned and broken, are separated into whites and yolks. The whites and yolks are separately pasteurized. If whole liquid egg product is being made, pasteurized egg whites and egg yolks from the same production batch are blended together in their entirety, in natural proportions. Egg products produced by combining whites and yolks from different production batches cannot be labeled as whole eggs. These products must be identified with an ingredient statement showing the content of the product as egg whites and egg yolks. Why is chicken so cheap? | The Economist
People eat 65 billion chickens every year. It is the fastest-growing meat product. Yet pound for pound the price of chicken has fallen sharply. How has this happened? Read more about Chickenomics here: https://econ.st/2Wtp04o Click here to subscribe to The Economist on YouTube: https://econ.st/2xvTKdy Chickens are the most populous bird on the planet. There are 23 billion of them at any given time - that's ten times more than any other bird. It's by far the fastest growing meat product but pound for pound the price of chicken has fallen sharply. How has this happened? This farm is at the forefront of a technology revolution that has drastically changed chicken farming. It's run by David Speller who's pioneered the use of CCTV and CO2 monitors in chicken sheds. Along with his own farm, he works as a consultant overseeing the raising of around 3 million chickens in the UK. Chickens were first domesticated over 8,000 years ago but it wasn't until the 1940s that major efforts were made to create a super breed. The chicken of tomorrow competition in America would change chickens forever. Today the lifecycle of broilers, chickens that are bred purely for their meat, is entirely preordained. They grow faster and bigger than ever before and they can only live supported by human technology. Chickens have changed so quickly they are now four times the size they were in the 1950s. A barnyard chicken can live up to 10 years showing the huge evolutionary change the broilers have undergone. But selective breeding on a global scale comes at a cost. If the chickens live beyond their planned life they develop huge medical problems. And there are concerns the chicken industry is relying on an increasingly small gene pool. Keeping chickens in battery cages was banned in the EU in 2012 but some people want to create better lives for broiler chickens. Free-range birds have more access to open air runs, while organic chickens are typically free from antibiotics, hormones and other synthetic chemicals. Organic chickens get to live the longest - 81 days compared to intensively reared birds which live between 35 and 40 days. Free-range chickens get the most access to open air runs but when it comes to living space, organic and free-range fair far better than intensively reared birds where as many as 17 adult birds live in a single square metre. Organic farming might offer animals a greater quality of life but consumers are largely driven by cost and in an average UK supermarket, an intensively reared chicken cost several times less than its free-range or organic cousins. Over 95% of broiler chickens are intensively reared in the UK. Organic and free-range chickens make up the rest. For as long as shoppers want cheap and plentiful chicken, they will continue to be bred ever more intensively. Pastured Poultry: Better Way Forward
Pastured Poultry: Better Way Forward is a short film documenting pasture-raised as a better method of production for everything involved. The land. The birds. The people. The problem with poultry today is that the claims of free range, organic, antibiotic-free, cage free, and natural are indistinguishable from the commodity options consumers are trying to avoid in the first place. What makes pastured poultry different is that it can’t be cheated after you know what to look for. The “Better Way Forward” video and companion Buyers’ Guide at apppa.org equips consumers with the information they need to purchase truly unique poultry products. http://www.apppa.org/Consumers

Why Is Costco Opening Its Own Chicken Farm?
In fall 2019, Costco will open a chicken farming operation in eastern Nebraska. This venture will provide Costco with 100 million chickens, or 40 percent of its yearly chicken needs, allowing it to partially escape the American chicken oligopoly run by the likes of Tyson, Pilgrim's Pride and Perdue. One of the brand's iconic products is the Costco rotisserie chicken. Costco sells about 60 million of them every year, but they're a loss leader. Costco sells these chickens at a loss sometimes up to 30 to 40 million dollars per year. The chickens are a lure to get customers in the door. They're placed strategically at the back of every Costco so customers might pick up other items along the way. That's why Costco wants to keep the price so low. The trouble is that chicken prices have crept up over the last 10 years and the industry is practically an oligopoly run by the likes of Tyson and Perdue. Costco like most American Grocers buys from these behemoth companies because there's no other option. But not anymore. In 2016 Costco announced its plans to open a chicken farming operation in eastern Nebraska. It will own the whole supply chain from baby chicks to feed to the final product. This operation will provide Costco with 40 percent of its yearly chicken needs about 100 million chickens. » Subscribe to CNBC: http://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBC About CNBC: From 'Wall Street' to 'Main Street' to award winning original documentaries and Reality TV series, CNBC has you covered. 🐓 पोल्ट्री की वायरल और बैक्टीरियल बीमारियॉं ! समाधान !
Welcome To YouTube Channel Poultry India TV. I am Amit Nagpal. As usual we are here to discuss one more topic is reason of 90 % mortality in Poultry. The first reason is Viral Disease. The second reason is bacterial disease.Poultry farmers some time can'd make difference in Viral & Bacterial Disease, so by this reason they also suffer lose.Like Ranikhet , Gumboro- we usually give & influenza are viral disease. You may noticed if poultry bird suffer from disease, all birds are not affected some birds be alive,Some Time there is mortality of all birds & some time some birds are alive & the birds are alive ,why because the birds are alive because they were having immunity against Virus & Infection. many farmers always asked there in Influenza ,Gumboro or Ranikhet or ND & what is the treatment ? There is no medicine of Viral Disease. Experts also says There is no medicine .Only one way is to prevent or improve immunity so that bird's can face viral or bacterial disease. There are many products if you use there will be less lose of viral or bacterial infection. Or no loss,Like Turmeric Powder, Basil( Ocimum tenuiflorum), Giloy(Guduchi 0r Tinospora cordifolia) & Azadirachta indica( Neem Leaves) control disease,Because bird's immune system become strong after using these herbs. In future we will give you link in description box, so that you can purchase directly from big companies. Bacterial infection Like CRD,CCRD & E colai have treatments. What Poultry farmers are doing , in initial stage of bird they are giving antibiotics to control infection. It may be good, because you don't know is there any infection in Day old Chicks or not. Some hatcheries are very good but remember the antibiotics you give in initial stage , & if bird's get sick in future so there are very less chance, the antibiotic you given in initial stage will work better. Example,You given enrofloxacin in initial stage & in future if bird's get sick & you give Enroflaxacin It might be possible same enrofloxacin will work or might be possible it work less. SO use light antibiotics which will work on gut & System. Its better not to give antibiotics. Very soon we will give you video. But use the antibiotics initially which work on Gut & Blood stream. So that infection get clear in Gut & Blood. If you thin Enroflaxacin or Levoflaxacin work better at your farm avoid using in initial stage. The difference between bacteria & Virus is Virus is minimum 10 times shorter than Bacteria & Bacteria has advantage also. Bacteria are beneficial & harmful but Virus for poultry are only Harmful. Today i will let you know some tips how to make your poultry farm safe from Viral &Bacterial Disease cause 90 % of mortality ,Fungal disease & other disease we will discuss later in next topic. Never forgot to add Haldi( Turmeri Powder, Basil( Ocimum tenuiflorum), Giloy(Guduchi 0r Tinospora cordifolia) & Azadirachta indica( Neem Leaves) in your Poultry Feed to improve immunity. If you want to know the exact composition subscribe us & you will get the video. For water we already uploaded a video, with that tip without negligible expense on Bleaching Powder you can improve water efficiency. Throw Waste Litter of minimum 200 feet, If you will throw it near poultry farm, all the virus & bacteria off old batch will disturb new birds. Some farmers make mistake of selling of retails. As bird get weight of around 100-1200 gram & Some birds get 1400 gram weight. & Poultry Farmers start retailing & The Transportation Vehicle is also full of harmful Virus & Bacterial infection. Than bird's can't take growth because of Extra stress of Viral & Bacterial Infection. Next video will be on Tomorrow on another Poultry related topics. Thank You. Broiler Poultry Farm Beginning Process/ Poultry Farming Full Info/Chicken Farming Business Method
What is Contract Farming or Integration? A farmer interested in engaging in poultry development activity has two options: Opt for Contract Farming also referred to as Integration Non Contract Farming : In this scenario the farmer is responsible for all the activities viz procurement of day old chicks ( to rear them for the broiler market) or acquiring a pureline / good breed which will be able to produce eggs that have a ready market. In this case the farmer solely bears all the expense involved in procuring the: feed, overhead expenses for (water/heating/cooling/disinfecting the poultry farm) , medical costs transportation and marketing etc plus he is also exposed to the ‘market risk’ ( in other words to the possible risk of there being an unfavorable demand for the broilers/ eggs at the time that they are ready to be sold .In case of broilers the usual cycle of procuring day old chicks rearing them and selling them in the market is about 40 days. In case of eggs (layer) the sale can be immediate. It is estimated that at present 36.7% of broiler production in India is under contract farming out of which about 78 % of the contracts are concentrated in Southern India. The Coimbatore-Salem belt is the front runner and leads the pack in broiler production in India. Another prominent belt for broiler production is the Pune-Nashik area (Maharashtra).Hyderabad and Bangalore have also seen a rapid growth of the contract broiler type of arrangements. The key players in this sector are Venkateshwara, Suguna, Godrej etc. A contract farming arrangement involves a wage contract between an integrator who supplies the intermediate inputs and procures the output (as per pre decided terms) and a poultry farmer who provides inputs such as administration, rearing and care taking. The process can be described as under: Integrator supplies the ‘raw-material’ which in this case are the day old chicks (DOC) He also supplies the feed, medications, veterinary supplies and implements that may be required (E.g. : Water dispensers, feeders etc) The contract farmer provides his services (labor) and space for the shed and other related services or equipment that may be required The integrator also bears the marketing responsibility (risk) and the expense involved in transportation ( to and from the farm) Since the major chunk of the expense ( working capital) is borne by the integrator-he is the absolute owner of the moveable stocks ( broiler) on the farm The farmer’s role is like that of a ‘care-taker’ who gets a pre determined wage which is listed in the contract This wage paid to the farmer is linked to various parameters such as the ‘Feed Conversion Ratio’(FCR) or in other words the quantum of feed consumed by the bird to produce the weight, percentage of birds dead etc. A farmer is rewarded for surpassing the set standards and penalized if any of the agreed criteria is not met This penalty is deducted by calculating the loss incurred per bird and deducting that amount from the money to be paid ( wage bill) Some Issues in Contract Farming & Recommendations: A. Need for Suitable Status, Incentives & Support for the Poultry Sector by Policy Makers/Government The status of the poultry sector has been a grey area for bankers and policy makers alike. While NABARD and commercial banks classify this sector under the ‘agriculture’ category most of the benefits viz concession in electricity, water costs, and tax benefits are not extended to this sector. Most farmers (both contract and non-contract) treat this as a secondary occupation. This can be changed by encouraging poultry producer’s co-operatives and subsidizing the feed costs. Moreover such co-operatives will enable the participating farmers to get an avenue to voice common concerns, and seek solutions that can have a positive impact on all stakeholders. Adequate infrastructure such as efficient cold chain system is required to ensure efficient forward and backward linkages. The perishable nature of the product requires minimal intermediaries (opposite situation prevails in the current scenario). The fate of the non contract farmers becomes even more difficult since grown broilers cannot be retained beyond a certain time.

Tips for Starting a Poultry farm and Business Before Quiting your job
See more on; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDK_16l18t4&list=UUcGEts4Au0PdKuRkKA7OhLQ Read through this guide for your insight and foresight benefit. [25/10 20:07] Antonio Mudongi: Before Your Chicks Arrive: Setting the Stage -- Brooder: a safe place to keep chicks warm, watered, and fed. You can buy or build elaborate brooders, but many chick growers go with a large plastic tote or large cardboard box. Be certain to have the right size (with high walls) for the number of chicks. You can also start small and move to a larger brooder as the chicks get older. Finally, you'll want a (ventilated) lid to keep brave chicks from escaping once they get bigger. --Brooder location: You want to keep the brooder in a warm, dry place; many people set it up in a garage, others do it in their house, while yet others do it in the chicken coop (if there are no adult chickens in the coop). -- Heat lamp: Fairly essential to keeping the chicks warm and their temperature regulated, as they can't do so initially. You can use a regular lamp and lightbulb, but products made for this purpose (with a guard) are a bit safer and more consistent. Attaching heat lamp to a 2x4 across top of brooder works well as does attaching it to a floor lamp's pole. --Thermometer: While not absolutely crucial, a thermometer will help you more easily monitor the temperature in the brooder. -- Bedding: Pine shavings in general are the best materials, but in the first week or so, we like newspapers with a layer of paper towels on top (because the chicks will try eating the pine shavings). -- Waterer: Absolutely essential to have one or more waterers designed specifically for chicks; other systems will lead to sad results and death. -- Feeder: You don't necessarily have to get chick feeders (though it's recommended). If you don't use a chick feeder, be more vigilant about keeping the feed clean (from poop) and dry. Some experts recommend simply placing the feed on a paper plate for the first few days. -- Chick starter feed: It's essential to use a feed specifically designed as starter for chicks; your main choice will be deciding between regular and medicated. Feed this feed for the first 8 weeks or so. - Administer Alermycine for 7 continuos days in water. -- Coop: Unless you're keeping the brooder in the coop, you don't technically need to have it ready now, but it's best -- as time will pass quickly. Every imaginable type of chicken coop exists -- and your goal should be to find/build the one that best fits your needs/code/number of chickens. -- Pen: The healthiest chickens are the ones who forage the yard for their food, thus you should have a plan for where you'll let your chickens roam, from one nicely fenced pen to a series of pens, to a moving pen, to your entire backyard. The pen should be fenced/enclosed to protect chickens from predators. [25/10 20:18] Antonio Mudongi: Day 1: Acclimating Chicks -- Temperature: Brooder temp should be 50 degrees. -- Water: First thing to do when baby chicks arrive is to take one at a time and dip their beaks in the water and be certain they drink; this step is absolutely essential to survival. Refill waterer often. -- Feed: Once the chicks have had a drink, repeat the process with their feed. -- Location: Keep feed and water on outskirts of heat lamp, ideally on opposite sides (with heat lamp in the middle) to keep water from feed. -- Sleep: Expect the chicks to sleep quite a lot during this first week. Week 2: Baby (Chick) Steps -- Temperature: Bring down brooder temperature 5 degrees to 45 degrees. -- Water: Check and refill waterer(s) at least twice a day. Clean regularly with diluted vinegor. -- Feed: Keep with the starter feed. Be vigilant about keeping feed free of moisture and chick poop. Using a piece of plywood or extra floor tile, raise waterer and feeder for less waste and mess. -- Feathers: You'll begin to see small feathers replacing the fluff on your chicks' wings and tail. -- Bedding: Switch to pine shavings -- about 1-2 inches deep; clean brooder before doing so. -- Grit: Introduce a small amount of fine "chick" grit to chicks' diet ; needed to assist in digestion (which they would normally get if raised naturally outside). -- Perch: Consider adding a small, chick-sized perch in brooder for "roosting 101" -- made easily with three small branches in an H-shape. -- Socializing: If your chicks are going to be more than simply production birds, now is the time to acclimate the chicks to you. Week 3: Keeping a Lid On -- Temperature: Bring down brooder temperature 5 degrees to 40 degrees by raising heat lamp about 3 inches. -- Lid: Now's the time when you should start putting a lid on your brooder.

This video features tips to help hens lay quality eggs, covering: the best chicken feed for laying hens, chicken treats, how much light chickens need to lay eggs, and tips to help molting chickens. 0:27: Laying hens require 38 unique nutrients each day to lay strong and stay strong. Feed a complete layer feed for at least 90 percent of the hen’s diet. The balance can come from chicken treats. 1:07: Chickens require 16-18 hours of daylight per day for sustained egg production. Consider adding a light on a time in the chicken coop for consistent lighting during the fall and winter. 1:42: Molting chickens are a common occurrence each fall for backyard chicken keepers. The process of losing and regrowing feathers is natural and is often signaled by shorter days. During molt, hens will decrease egg production and need higher protein for feather regrowth.
