Get more from William Cheung: http://amzn.to/2ydU3ZQ In this kung fu techniques video, William Cheung demonstrates how kung fu practitioners can use a device such as the wooden dummy to practice their own defenses and counterattacks. William Cheung then demonstrates the practiced kung fu techniques on his training partner and senior disciple, Eric Oram. Because the wooden dummy is usually made of teak, it's essential to practice all your offensive and defensive kung fu techniques slowly and softly at first to minimize the impacts your body is forced to absorb. As your accuracy and technique improve you can put more energy and intention into it. ________________________________ :: RELATED FREE GUIDES :: 10 Wing Chun Kung Fu Training Principles Any Martial Artist Can Use http://www.blackbeltmag.com/wing-chun-guide Eric Oram Shows You How to Fight Someone Bigger Than You Using Wing Chun Techniques http://www.blackbeltmag.com/oram-guide Bruce Lee Quotes: 10 Jeet Kune Do Masters Examine Bruce Lee's Philosophy http://www.blackbeltmag.com/bruce-lee-quotes More FREE Guides from Bruce Lee, Kelly McCann, Wally Jay, Jean Jacques Machado and many others at http://www.blackbeltmag.com/free-guides :: MORE WING CHUN & KUNG FU :: Kung Fu Videos http://www.blackbeltmag.com/category/kung-fu-videos/ Kung Fu Training http://www.blackbeltmag.com/category/kung-fu/ Wing Chun Training http://www.blackbeltmag.com/category/wing-chun/ Kung Fu Books & DVDs http://www.blackbeltmag.com/shop/category/chinese/kung-fu/?id=chinese Wing Chun Books & DVDs http://www.blackbeltmag.com/shop/category/chinese/wing-chun/?id=chinese :: MORE WILLIAM CHEUNG :: Martial Arts Masters: William Cheung http://www.blackbeltmag.com/category/william-cheung/ William Cheung Books & DVDs http://www.blackbeltmag.com/cheung

Wing Chun Fist Training http://www.combatnetworkmagazine.com Wing Chun Fist training is recognized throughout the Martial Arts World and is often expressed as the simplest direct attack, utilizing the imaginary straight lines between two points thrown from the centre of the heart. From the dawn of time, the Martial Arts have been developed and refined to contain simplified formats and sets for the devoted students’ personal growth in Mind, Body and Spirit. Before the mind is concentrated on the attack, one must first understand the underlining principles of defence, so when a practitioner first encounters a Wing Chun Fist lesson one begins to understand the importance of gentle extended therapy, continuous fluidity and speed, prior to the execution of any power and contact. If the arms are joined in such a way that their combined fluidity of extension and circular motion is generated, then they can be seen as spinning wheels and pistons of a train. Straight lines and circles, this is the idea to keep in mind when training in the Wing Chun Fist. It is also the entire body that propels one forward, so to keep the intention of the mind on the fists alone will only deter the objective and may even throw your own centre of gravity off line. The defending or retreating fist is just as important as the extended attacking fist. They work in relation to each other and need to be balanced, ultimately so as the hands are revolved at lightning speed. It is common for a beginner to be able to punch at least three times in one second, and one should aim for seven. Before any other technique is drilled, the Wing Chun Fist is perfected. A fist can travel in many ways, but the most direct route will always be a straight line and this is what makes the Wing Chun Fist a most difficult attack to counter. Within my own program one would practice with three fist extensions at a fundamental level to maximize the students understanding of how our three signature ‘seed’ methods are used to create many fist combinations. It is common practice for students to continually punch for a long duration of time. A foundation level student is capable of repeating one thousand strikes without getting tired or fatigued. In basic training, the shoulders and hips tend to remain square with each other throughout this punching exercise, though some bobbing, or natural swaying may occur if you’re generating some types of power. We brace ourselves to the ground with our upright gripping goat stance principles. When attempting a light fluidity, be sure that you concentrate on the elbow positioning and do not over extend, or lock the joints. Use the stance to sink and rise with the extension of each fist, paying attention to the back of the neck to avoid shaking the head. When sufficient speed is developed, the Wing Chun Fist can create a substantial amount of wind in two directions. One will be traveling upwards and under ones chin and the other will travel forwards toward the target area. Be careful not to allow the two fists to clash at any time and always hold the fists lightly until the point of contact. At no time will the wrist bend against itself, or flick in any direction, as this can cause severe joint pain and damage upon contact. Always try to imagine that the Fist being thrown forwards is like an iron bar, and the joints need to be aligned in such a way that causes no give, and have no weakness at any time. The Wing Chun Fist also plays a vital role in the development of other techniques and theories. With continuous practice, a skilled practitioner is able to move around a beginners fist work, as if it isn’t really there. And the beginner learns how to adjust and move their own attack and defence lines along with various body alignments too, leaving the parallel square shoulders behind and moving onto angled, slanted and side body fist drills. This type of training is designed to increase the beginner’s stamina and accuracy, while the advanced practitioner develops skill in mobility using any given technique. This interaction is what makes the Wing Chun style unique in comparison to many other Martial Arts. http://www.combatnetworkmagazine.com http://www.facebook.com/combatnetworkmagazine http://twitter.com/combat_network https://plus.google.com/+Combatnetworkmagazine

Xu Xiaodong, the MMA fighter who destroyed that Tai Chi wind-bender wannabe, finally got another set of fights together, this time against two Wing Chun "masters." The fights are epic and telling. One is by Xiaodong against one of the "four great Wing Chun masters in China" Ding Ho. The other fight (3:57) is Xiong Cheng Cheng (not Yi Long, though they kind of look alike) against another Ip Man lineage Wing Chun Master Yu Changhua. Also, there was supposed to be no kicks, but there were kicks thrown. So if we looked at what happened, they basically followed Sanshou rules. These fights show what works and what doesn't work, as well as the need for weight classes. Hope you enjoy our commentary and research on the fighters. It is the Nineteen Eighties and the Wing Chun War is raging. William Cheung through a number of articles in martial art magazines around the globe, informs readers that Grandmaster Yip Man inherited two versions of Wing Chun Kung Fu. The first version of the art from his first master Chan Wah Shun and Chan's senior students and a second version an older version from Leung Bik Wor who happened to be the son of Chan's master, Leung Jan. William Cheung claims to be the sole inheritor of the Leung Bik version of the art taught to him by Yip Man whilst living under Yip Mans roof as a closed door student, he terms this the 'Traditional Wing Chun' as it is the older version of the art that has more complete forms advanced foot work and entry techniques as well as Iron Palm programmes and Dim Mak techniques or disabling pressure point techniques. He refers to the Wing Chun that Yip Man taught in his school to the rest of the students including Bruce Lee (the Chan Wah Shun version) as the 'Modified Wing Chun', a more limited version of the art. The story that Cheung claims that Yip Man told too him, is that Chan Wah Shun would spy on Dr Leung Jan's Wing Chun teachings to his sons Leung Chun and Leung Bik in an attempt to learn the Wing Chun techniques having been turned down as a student. Leung Jan deliberately modifies the Wing Chun techniques when Chan is watching so that he (Chan) doesn't understand the training method properly. After a while Chan's persistence pays off. Leung Jan, touched by Chan's dedication accepts Chan as a disciple but continues to teach Chan a modified version of the art so that his sons Leung Chun and Leung Bik will retain the original art and the Grandmastership will remain in the family. Yip Man studies with both Chan and Leung Bik and inherits the Wing Chun Legacy of both the Modified and Traditional Wing Chun. Back to the 1980's and William Cheung has claimed to be the Grandmaster of the 'Traditional Wing Chun' whilst also knowing the 'Modified Wing Chun' thoroughly. This causes outrage and division in the Wing Chun world. The letters pages of some of the martial arts magazines become a place to air grievances and some of these turn into physical challenges. Cheung himself is surprised by a young Emin Boztepe who with followers armed with video cameras ambush him at a seminar in Cologne Germany in an attempt to discredit him. Boztepe holds up a copy of a William Cheung article 'The Challenge' and forces a fight then and there. In the U.K. an issue of Combat Magazine containing the aforementioned article on William Cheung also contains Derek Jones 'Wing Chun's Last Streetfighter' and Paul Elstons 'Wing Chun's Last Chapter' these articles with their continued emphasis on the street fighting capabilities of these martial artists and Wing Chun Kung Fu, cause irritation to a number of Kick Boxing, Karate and Kung Fu, full contact competitors. One of these is 'Bad Bob Sykes' who offers a challenge to these Kung Fu men in an attempt to have them put up or shut up! All decline accept for Master Derek Jones who sends a waiver injury to Sykes who signs it and sends it back. The fight is on! Jones and his team set off from London to drive to Huddersfield. An ambitious move to drive yourself that distance, fight another martial artist bare knuckle on a desolate hillside and then drive back again all in the same day, but that is exactly what happened. Two of Derek's students, his top student Peter Stavrides and a senior student Steve Alderman (aka Welsh Steve) were alongside their friend and teacher. This is their account of what happened that day as they described it to me. Remember this was late 1986 long before the UFC and the popularity of BJJ and MMA. These were martial artists that were prepared to put themselves on the line for their good name and the reputation of their art, no holds barred! Sifu Dom Békés
