Ships in storms can be so creepy to look at. Just look at those terrifying monster waves from those incredible videos. Those ships in rough seas sure look creepy. I wouldn't want to be in a ship in storm at sea.

Shortly after departing Ushuaia, the Quark Ocean Adventurer officially left the sheltered waters of the Beagle Channel and entered the notorious Drake Passage. Travel to Antarctica requires traversing the unpredictable and potentially bone-jarring waters of the Drake Passage, which is widely considered to be some of the roughest ocean on the planet. We got relatively lucky on our passage down to the Antarctic, only encountering waves of around 6 meters or ~18 feet. That was enough to keep us in our beds, grateful for the seasickness medication we had brought along! This video was taken on board a Russian vessel crossing the Drake Passage between Ushuaia (Argentina) and the Antarctic Peninsula. The Drake Passage is known as the roughest sea on earth with severe storms almost at any times and extremely huge waves. We were hit by a storm sailing north that lasted two days with 14m waves.

We can drink it, swim in it, grow food with it, and just plain live because of it. However, certain bodies of water are shockingly mean to us. Interacting with some lakes and rivers can hurt us, make us sick, or even kill us. Hello guys and today we're talking about 10 Bodies Of Water That Want You Dead #10. Boiling Lake Dominica Whoever named this place was certainly no fan of subtlety: Boiling Lake is exactly what it sounds like. Discovered in 1870 by two Englishmen, temperatures taken five years later ranged anywhere from 82 to 91.5 °C. #9. Citarum River West Java, Indonesia Here we have a body of water that can destroy us, but only because we screwed it up. Citarum River might well be the most polluted, trash-filled bit of water on the planet. #8. Rio Tinto Spain Rio Tinto is among the most acidic bodies of water around, with a pH balance of 2, at best. This means the Rio Tinto is as strong as stomach acid and is more than powerful enough to kill any fish that dare swim in it. #7. Lake Kivu Of DRC And Rwanda Three hundred meters (1,000 ft) below the surface of Lake Kivu lies a ticking time bomb. Over 250 cubic kilometers (60 cubic miles) of carbon dioxide, along with around 65 cubic kilometers (15 cubic miles) of methane gas, lurks under this body of water, enough to provide electricity to several countries. #6. The Rivers Of Johannesburg South Africa Catching E. coli is no fun under normal circumstances; now imagine you were literally swimming in the stuff. #5. Blackwater River Virginia, USA Too much water can be a bad thing, even if the water can't kill you otherwise. #4. Tualatin River Oregon, USA Oregon's Tualatin River is not the place to be if you want to take your dogs for a swim; close to a dozen pups die there every year from exposure to toxic blue-green algae. #3. Lake Karachay Russia Like a supermodel with a bomb strapped underneath her bodice, Russia's Lake Karachay is pristine, gorgeous, and incredibly deadly. It is, without question, the most radioactive body of water on the planet. #2. Belle Fourche River And South Dakota, USA Belle Fourche isn't poisonous, boiling, or radioactive. However, it is turbulent and wild, at least in one particular area. #1. Potomac River Maryland–West Virginia Border, USA Though the only thing most people know about the Potomac is that Washington, DC is situated on it, the legendary river can also be associated with something else: horrible deaths. Thank you for watching!!! Does anyone want to come over and swim with me? Write in comments what do you think of these bodies of water. Join our channel for more interesting videos!

If you are a summer fan, then you probably like to go to the sea, enjoy the beaches and the tranquility of the coast. Just hearing the world "beach" makes me thing of such many good things: vacation time, the ocean, the thundering of the breakers, seagulls, relax, sharks, currents… Wait, those last two words seem a little out of context, right? Well, that's because people seem to forget that beauty and danger are good old lovers. In today's video we are gonna tell you about some beaches you should stay away from. A visit to these places can harm you or even kill you.

Recorded February 23, 2009: The Drake Passage is the body of water between the southern tip of South America at Cape Horn, Chile and the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica. It connects the southwestern part of the Atlantic Ocean (Scotia Sea) with the southeastern part of the Pacific Ocean and extends into the Southern Ocean. The passage is named after the 16th century English privateer Sir Francis Drake, whose only remaining ship after passing through the Strait of Magellan was blown far South in September 1578 and who inferred an open connection of the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. This video covers my turbulent crossing of the Drake Passage on my 16-day cruise on the Star Princess. Video includes announcements from Captain Edward Perrin about the weather and our schedule. Witness an ocean liner ripped in half by killer waves and sail aboard a yacht tossed about on the open seas in fifty foot rollers as Anatomy of Disaster explores the origins and cycles of nature's most destructive force - the power of the ocean that drives intense storms an immense waves. Enormous energy, caused by storm winds, reverberates out across the surface of the ocean in what we experience as waves. And woe to ships or coastal residents in their paths! From an Australian sailing couple's struggle to survive a tropical storm, to an attempt to save crewmen off a cargo ship before it crashes into North Sea cliffs, Anatomy of Disaster takes us to the world's worst storms and the mariners who face them. We'll examine cyclonic storm surges, gigantic ocean rollers, and killer rogue waves. To better understand these incredible forces of nature, we'll stand onboard an oil tanker as it breaks up and then barely escape as it plunges into the depths, cling to a catamaran in a South Pacific Typhoon, and watch a ship off Mozambique sink after being hit by a rogue wave.

Movie recorded on an Expedition Cruise to the Antarctic Circle, February/March 2011. On Sunday 6th March we were sailing through the Drake Passage back to mainland Argentina on our ship, the MS Expedition, when a big storm blew up. The Captain reported it was a Force 12, with gusts of wind upto 70 Knots and 30-40ft waves/swell. Certainly a lovely and exciting crossing, and totally living upto the name "Drake Shake", when storms like this happen on this stretch of water.

One of the most recognizable lighthouse photographs in the world. Perceived optical illusion at end. When first seeing the famous and historical photograph, most people assume that the lighthouse keeper must have been killed. In fact, the keepers had been living in fear of death during the 1989 storm and at one point had taken refuge in the lantern room of the tower. Waves the night before had smashed through the lower windows of the tower, causing the structure to flood, washing away everything in its path including the television, table, chairs, coffee maker and even the refrigerator. The keepers in fact were waiting to be rescued by helicopter. Assuming the rescue chopper had arrived, one of the keepers opened the lower door of the structure and looked up at the helicopter but realized that it was not the rescue chopper. He also realized that a giant wave was about to engulf the tower. He immediately turned about and pulled the door closed behind him. Had he not done so at that second, he surely would have been killed. Awareness Alert: There are only 4 Northern White Rhinos left on Earth, making them the most critically endangered species. This magnificent creature will vanish before our eyes... endextinction.org
