How to Create a Custom Button (With XML ShapeDrawables) in Android Studio

15:51
In this video we will learn how to create a custom button that uses XML shapes to replace the background of the default Android button. For this we first create 3 different XML ShapeDrawables and define a background color (solid or gradient), a padding and an outer line (stroke) around the shape, which we can also make dashed. Our shape can be an oval/circle or a rectangle. In the latter case we can also add rounded corners by setting a radius on them. Then we put these different drawables into a StateListDrawable, where we can assign different states to them, like state_enabled, state_pressed and so on. If we want to set this custom style only on single buttons, we just use the android:background attribute on the View directly. If we want to apply it globally to all buttons in our app, we can create a custom button theme that extends Widget.AppCompat.Button and set it as the buttonStyle on our AppTheme. In this custom button theme we can also change more attributes, like the textColor or textAppearance of our button. Optionally we can deactivate the default StateListAnimator by setting android:stateListAnimator to @null to disable the shadow and animation of the default Lollipop AppCompatButton. How to Create a Custom Button (With Images) in Android Studio

08:57
In this video we will learn how to create a custom button that uses image files to replace the background of the default Android button. For this we will create a StateListDrawable xml file, where we define appropriate png files from the drawable folder for the different button state combinations of state_pressed and state_enabled. We put these states as items between a selector tag to create a state list and set it as the background on our Button widget. Just like for any other button, we can set an OnClickListener on our custom button, disable it etc. Example code + button image files: https://codinginflow.com/tutorials/android/custom-button-with-images ____________________ Subscribe to my channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/codinginflow?sub_confirmation=1 Want more Android tutorials? Set up a Button in XML

08:46
In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a button in XML and assign an ID to it. First, we will create a new Android app using Eclipse software. Then we will create a new XML file and then we will add a button in our XML file. Sample code for button : android:layout_width = "wrap_content" android:layout_height = "wrap_content" android:text = "DISPLAY" android:id="@+id/bDisplay" This is how we create a button which will display some value when we'll click on it. I will also explain what is wrap_content, what is match_parent and the difference between wrap_content and match_parent. And how to implement onClickListener for the button. If you like my video, please subscribe and like it. And if you want me to post a video about some specific function then let me know by commenting on this and I'll try to make a video about it as soon as possible. 4. WHAT IS ACTIVITY MAIN.XML | CHANGE TEXT-1 | ANDROID APP DEVELOPMENT

11:10
In this video you will see in detail what is activity_main.xml. Activity main.xml is the most important file in Android Studio. It is inside this file that we design the graphical elements like Button, TextView, EditText,Checkboxes to name a few. In this Change Text app Part -1 we will take a TextView attribute and Button attribute in activity_main.xml file. The id for the TextView attribute is textview and that for Button is button Both the attribute have their individual width and height. The width and height can be set in 3 ways 1. wrap_content - Wraping the text according to the view of the attribute. 2. match_parent - Regardless of the text inside the attribute the view of the attribute will occupy the entire width and height of the parent layout. 3. Density Pixels(dp) - Manually set the width and height of individual attributes. Parameters to the left side of attribute are callled as attribute name and that to the right are called as attribute values Inside the Button attribute we define attribute name called the onClick which helps to create a method that we can later use in MainActivity.java file. Once attribute in .xml file are created they must be linked to variables in .java file so that the id value gets stored in variable.

In this video we will learn, how to set OnClickListeners for multiple buttons and handle them all in one onClick method. Instead of passing an anonymous inner class to the setOnClickListener method, we will pass the activity itself and implement the OnClickListener interface into our MainActivity. The GridLayout essentially consists of a number of invisible horizontal and vertical grid lines that serve to divide the layout view into a series of rows and columns, with each intersecting row and column forming a cell which can, in turn, contain one or more views.
