Catalog Backup and Restore in Lightroom

93 ratings | 8076 views
Lightroom has an inbuilt backup feature. It's strictly the catalog that's backed up, not your photos. While the timing of backups can be set easily, the rest of the settings are only available during backup. I look at all of these in the video as well as how to extract the backup and replace the main catalog file with it. My Book! Hi Sean, Ive tried setting up everything as you explain, but whe I try to restore an old back up all I get is a dialogue box saying `Lighroom cannot use the catalogue named Lightroom Old Catalogue because it is not writable and cannot be opened`. Any idea why this is happenning? And BTW not one of the backups Ive made over many many months will open, they all come up with this message.
It could also be related to where it's stored.

Hi Sean thanks for getting back to me Im on Windows 8.1, Ive checked properties and everything seems OK, but backups still not working, but thanks for pointing me in the right direction
The file is locked in that case. Not sure what OS you're on, but on Mac, right click the file and untick the lock. It may be in the right click menu under Properties on PC.
