How to Embed a PDF Document in Excel

Sometimes you may have a need to embed a PDF file within the Excel workbook. This could be the case when you are creating a catalog and want to embed product specific PDFs. When you embed a PDF file in Excel, it is inserted as an object that sits above the worksheet cells. The position of the icon would not change if you change the cells below it. In this video, you'll learn: -- How to embed a PDF document in Excel. -- How to fix the document in a cell -- How to rename the document Here are the steps to embed a PDF File in Excel: -- Go to Insert tab and click on the Object icon in the Text group. This will open the Object dialog box. -- In the Object dialog box, select the ‘Create New’ tab and the select ‘Adobe Acrobat Document’ from the list. Note that you need to have Adobe Reader installed on your system for Adobe object to appear in the list. -- Check the option – ‘Display as icon’. -- Click OK. -- Select the PDF file that you want to embed and click on Open. Nice video, I tried it, but on my mac, I get a message " Cannot insert object". I have a adobe reader on my mac, but when I go to insert Object, in the object type" adobe reader doesnt show up".. what do I do to add it up there.

Here is my question... If you were to email this excel document that you embedded a .pdf file in, would the recipient be able to open the .pdf file? This is NOT clear in your video. Or is the embedded file only openable on your computer because the original .pdf file is on your computer? Second, so IF the file CAN be emailed and viewed by the receiver, you could then encrypt the excel document/file and that would be a EXCELLENT way to transfer confidential documents embedded in excel without using an encrypted email service?

Thank you for this information, but in my excel 2016 for Mac when I am going to insert the PDF there is only word format as a choice of object, how can I add a PDF format as one of the object types?

Hi Trump, I received a excel file in mail where an existing excel file has been attached as an object inside the worksheet. When i try to open it i get "Can't find the source path of the file". But rest of my team are able to open. Surprisingly all we have same office 16 installed with same patches. How do we find paths if it is attached as object? Any solution plz

Thank you for this concise video, but in my excel, when I am going to object there is only word format and I can't find the adobe or there is no create file, how can I bring all the formats to the object?..Could you, please answer my question. Appreciate your effort.
